  15. Stringer Bell

Pandora’s box is now officially open!!

  16. Truth.com

I don’t see the problem.Listen to the album before you judge and make your decisions. No one complained when Cornell West named his book *****. Nas is speaking out for “our ” people. I think he just made this title because it will make people think. You go ahead Nas!!

  17. Carolyn

TELL IT!!! Thanks for being open minded cause when it comes to his game, NAS is the TRUTH!!

  22. MiStYbLuE

rap truly is for “its” audience. i hate how people who arent into hip hop / rap constantly make judgements on what is being released. ***** if you dont like it dont listen to it & shut the fucck up. nas is the homie. his last album was hot.

  23. M-DADDY OAKLANDS FINEST

I’m looking for a white boy. Found one. “hey white boy whats the name of Nas’s new album” “*****” Beats that *****

  29. Lou_Brock

DOPE!!!! I can’t wait to hear the content! I know that Nas is coming from a good place in his heart with this one.

    Let the conversation begin!

  30. whatever

yall some ignorant *****ers especially talking about kickin’ these white boys *****es. Stop being a hypocrite thats why people discriminate against black people. SMH.

  31. M-DADDY OAKLANDS FINEST

    @whatever

Dont start none and it wont be none. I’m really not in the mood today

  32. Licia

I am loving the cover…It shows the true contradiction to the word of what it actually means and how some feel about Black people. I am purchasing it either way…Even if the album sucks, cause we need to support our community whenever one of us makes a stand.

  33. Mary J Blige

    LMAO @ the parental guidance warning-no *****

  34. FyreStarrter

WOW I luv some NAS & this is to the left IN A GOOD WAY!!! I think it will bring about an active discussion & that is ALWAYS a good thing. I mean look at the cover, NAS is sitting there, the Anti-Thesis of what people think a N-word is. Maybe now, this will get the RIGHT people talking about the use of the N-word.

  35. I’m a big fan of Nas. He always… okay… most of the time, has something meaningful and indept to say, so I think sending a few dollars on this ablum will be worth it.

  36. Brim Life 62

    @whatever

Yeaaaaa thats the reason people discriminate against us and imean US not you only white people say *****ers..lol

And why everytime black people voice how they feel its ignorant damn can we be mad…*****!

  37. anonymous

when does the album come out?

  38. Mary J Blige

I, like Jay Z thought this album was misguided but now I really don’t know. At the least it is a thought & debate provoking piece of work. Lets see what happens, but I’m tellin y’all if this album causes YTs to start thinking its okay to call Mary a ***** when I’m driving in my Hummer, Nas better believe I’ll be coming to his place wid my steel capped Doc Martens on…..

  39. halle's milkshake

I will ignore this album entirely because I like Nas and fear that this will make me hate him. La la la la la. I don’t hear it. I don’t see it.

    Nice picture though.

  40. Dolla Bill

LMFAO @ that *****in album cover.

    JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL!!!!!

  41. Corree

I wouldn’t spend 5 cents on that shyt. I’m sick and tired of *****s and the whole ***** mentality, and the whole support him because he’s a black person, even if the crap is wack. Why couldn’t he call it Man or Real Black Man, instead of that? I wish my black people would wake the ***** up and stop accepting everything that is thrown their way by someone just because they’re black.

  42. M-DADDY OAKLANDS FINEST

    Dolla Bill

Are you still runnin from St Louis? Or did you pay his country *****? LOL

  43. I like the photography and lighting and ***** and the pose and the chair.

    http://www.theblackactor.com

  44. Jono

I’m tellin y’all if this album causes YTs to start thinking its okay to call Mary a ***** when I’m driving in my Hummer, Nas better believe I’ll be coming to his place wid my steel capped Doc Martens on…

    ……………………….

lmfao!!!!!!!! Mary, wasn’t Nas tapin that *****? Congrats on the new album : )

  45. kit

somebody need to this ***** back to 1930 and see how he feel about being called a (*****)

  46. ***** NAS!!!

  47. Brim Life 62

    @Corree

You have missed the point of the title even with the cover right there in your face homie..

It’s a war against us and we the only ones that dont know it!

  48. im_unique

I am so looking forward to what Mr. Jones is talking about. Fine *****!!! Gimme some sugga!!!

  49. lalapaloosa

I like Nas and all but…SERIOUSLY!!!WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS ALBUM TITLE!! This is just gonna give white folks the okay to even say the word even more now. I’m so dissappointed in him. SMH

  50. Dolla Bill

All I gotta say Nas is that you better make damn sure that this CD is poppin like Illmatic or else you’ll be a DUMB ***** *****!!!! LOL

  51. Siccadasickness

If hip hop weren’t dead, I would kill it. Nasty’s ***** is proof that today’s black mother*****ers don’t know a *****ing thing about our history or struggle. They only know dollar signs, blood diamonds, self hatred and bull*****. Everyone who buys this IS a *****. I don’t have to do *****, cuz y’all will kill each other. Like ya BEEN doin. Keep it up, haters. Keep up the fall back.

  52. This young brother deserves to get smacked up side his head with the Bible. I have lived 86 years trying to put this word behind me and here comes this young fella trying to demise the work of generations. He should have called this book something else, praise Jesus

  53. ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  54. La'shonda

Nas thinks he’s the next MLK except he ain’t *****. You ain’t no streets ‘disciple’ so sit the ***** down you blasphemous piece of ignorant *****. He think’s what he’s doing is so original and intellectual except he its not. Paris Hilton’s been on this game for years: its called CAUSING CONTROVERSY FOR YOUR OWN PROFIT. Nas did it with ‘Hip Hop is Dead’ and he failed and he’s attempting to do it with this album. Don’t be fooled people. Nas, you truly deserve to be called a ***** for thepain you are going to cause with this album.

It’s fine to confront the word, especially the use of the word in our community, but putting it on the cover like that is clearly for publicity purposes. SMH

  55. weezy

You know how the big retailers always run out of CD’s and some of them even put CDs (usually rap) behind the counter. Would any of you go ask a sales rep for it, would you ask a sales rep that wasn’t black.

  56. Dolla Bill

    @ M-DADDY

***** St. Louis….I still ain’t pay his country ***** and I’m back in Chi-Town beggin R. Kelly for a loan.

  57. Sammy J. Parker

SMH Nas is grasping and pseudo-intellectual while trying to be a conscious rapper and Jay Z is grasping and pseudo-intellectual while trying to be commercial/pop. In short, they’re both over…they should focus on their gorgeous wives.

  58. *****. I guess this is alright to say now according to this one black man. Lets get the kettle started with a large batch of hate

  59. I can’t wait to buy the ***** album.

  60. Is there a release date for the ***** album?

  61. I see there is a parental advisory on the ***** album

  62. Do you think alot of white people will buy the ***** album?

  63. Who produced the ***** album?

  64. Strong Black Man

    @sammy j parker…lol Jay-z never claimed to be intellectual..he’s stayed in one lane…

Nas..lol “just because he wear a kufi, don’t mean that he’s bright, cause you don’t understand him, it dont mean that he’s nice, it just means you don’t understand all the bull***** that writes, is it oochi-wally or is One-Mic. is black girls lost or shorty owe you for ice, I’ve been real all my life, they confuse with conceit, since i will not lose they try to help me cheat, i will not lose even in defeat, cause that’s a valuable lesson learned so it evens up for me”~Jigga

  65. Corree

@Brim life 62. I really don’t think I missed the point. Cosigning on this is counterproductive, and I won’t be a part of that. Nas is just trying to build hype for this album off the back of something that should be considered insulting and degrading. If you think it’s “cool” and “deep” then that’s you, but again, I think it’s pointless.

  66. M-DADDY OAKLANDS FINEST

    Dolla Bill

Just find R-Kelly a girl between the ages of 13 and 16 and he will bread you out

  67. Youngblood

Who is going to sell this album? Do you think Wal-Mart,Target or Best Buy are going to have that album displayed in their stores?

  68. Strong Black Man

This is the dumbest ***** ever..and i’m not sayin this worrying about what white people are going to think about this album…i don’t care what white people think, they can eat a *****, but this is dumb…Nas is over, Kelis never got started and ending his career like this is sad…

  69. Sammy J. Parker

    @Strong Black Man

I disagree…Last month, before the release of “American Gangster,” I watched an interview…I got in on it late, but I watched a good 40 minutes of it and it was the most vapid, pseudointellectual garbage I’ve ever seen… I mean, the man talked about nothing for 40 minutes…And, it had nothing to do with the questions…they were legit…none leading

  70. justoppnthru

I agree. This is a publicity stunt to boost his sales. Why on earth do we need to give the ‘other side’ reason to say this word AGAIN!! Nas could have been more creative and found a word to use to get his point across. Talk about CONTROVERSY!!!

  71. ahem Ok. . .

Who the ***** Cares!!! If you start in on making something an issue, then ppls are goin to use it against you. I still think that all races should embrace their racial slurr names calling and take the power from the others. NOW WHAT!!! DISCUSS THAT NICCAR!!!

  72. Brim Life 62

Hip Hop and/or rappers did not create or embed the word, epithet or diatribe into the American heart and psyche. The word ***** as used by NWA (who I would give credit for propagating its use in Hip Hop on a mainstream level), was used to express the prevailing attitude of black people in this country for centuries before NWA or even Hip Hop were conceived. That attitude being that regardless of what a black man in America does, achieve, accomplish or fails to do, he is, in the eyes of the white-power-structure, still a *****! I mean NWA stood for *****z wit Attitudes. Did you ever ask yourself, what did they have an attitude about? They were *****ed off about the poverty, drugs, gangs, mis-education, joblessness, and police brutality that they were born and raised in and forced to deal with on a daily basis.

  73. Sammy J. Parker

    La’shonda

He think’s what he’s doing is so original and intellectual except he its not. Paris Hilton’s been on this game for years: its called CAUSING CONTROVERSY FOR YOUR OWN PROFIT. Nas did it with ‘Hip Hop is Dead’ and he failed and he’s attempting to do it with this album. Don’t be fooled people. Nas, you truly deserve to be called a ***** for thepain you are going to cause with this album.

    ************************************

    I agree 100%!

  74. What pain is he causing??? I choose to belive that Nas is taking a step forward. As long as this word is so taboo, pls are ALWAYS going to use it against blacks folks. I still believe in taking it and makin it our own, like what Stupahead did.

  75. kai

    Hmmmmmm! Interesting!

    Stringer Bell, Im with you.

A little bit of black magic is going to be brewing in a hot pot of *****s, a black cat, a buckshot, a 9mm, ***** blood, watermelons and fried chicken, and a few white man dollars thrown in for a huge **POW!!!**smoke effect. Cant wait to hear what hes talking about in all honesty.

  76. kai

LMFAO Ill be damned, does he really need the parental advisory?

  77. Sammy J. Parker

    Mickit,

I don’t understand how you can “take it and make it your own”? I mean, who should want to do that? Who should be so outer-directed that he should not only legitimize something vile and derogatory BUT need to make self-definitions using some other idiot’s opinion of you. If I come in tomorrow and someone calls me “*****brain” and keeps at it until everyone here refers to me by that “name,” am I to refer to myself as “*****brain”? What would be accomplished in that? If I “take it and make it my own,” I’ve done 2 things: 1. internalized some sick individuals psychic bull***** and 2. muddied, senselessly, my own sense of right and wrong.

  78. Calling me a *****. . .

If that makes you feel better callin me names, go right ahead and call me what ya want! I know what I am and what I aint. I am strong enough to handle your need to feel important and special. For you, this I will do.

  79. Outrageous titles are usually a sign of poor quality within. He is creating attention with the “N” word to have people overlook the *****ty content, He better sale some albums b/c Kelis likes to spend but cannot earn a dime off of her music

  80. MiStYbLuE

@ La’shonda …. LMAO !!! YOU SOUND HELLA ANGRY LOL TOO FUNNY

  81. ^^^ from my smart mouth GreatGrandmother died when I was 20 at the age of 90 7 years ago.

  82. renegro

    ***** ***** ***** ***** *****, ooops did i say ***** ***** ***** ***** *****

  83. grew up in the deep south. Reaction is what they want, when you dont give it, they have no power.

  84. v-fromrock

I guess that won’t be sold at Walmart.

  85. this man is a genius

  86. NubianGoddez

    @ Naz *yawnnnnnnnn* next!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. renegro

dam brimlife i had to look diatribe up, never heard that word before. dam you one smart ***** aint you

  88. Brim Life 62

    @Mistyblue..

Yo i was thinking the same thing about her comment she gets the official Hater Comment Of The Day Award..lol

  89. The word ***** aint gonna go away, BOTTOM LINE! Tryna hide it, outlaw it, have national boycotts, sit ins, bus trips and what have you, aint gonna make the word go away. Giving it that much attention aint gonna help either.

  90. renegro

    lol @siccadasickness …why he got to be a **********er.. . *****

  91. MiStYbLuE

WHY DO BLACK PEOPLE ALWAYS CARE WHAT WHITE PEOPLE THINK OF US, OR HOW WE LOOK IN FRONT OF THEM? THEY DONT CONSTANTLY HAVE BLACK PEOPLE IN THE FOREFRONT OF THEIR MIND WHEN THEY DO ANYTHING.

  92. renegro

@mistyblue, because they the “haves” and we are the “have nots” . .. . we wont equal playing field to everything they have, and more

  93. F*CK Nas, with his punk *****, I will never support the use of that word. If his cd is good let it stand on it’s own merit.

  94. Despite the title – Im with Nasty – Queens bout to tear it up (quicker than Chris Strokes tears up Marques Houston butt e’ry night)

  95. Tyrone M. Wild

let me know when you got some music.

  96. TeeHeeHeeee

    That Stings..

Im a lil scared.. I’ll admit it.

    Nas is dope tho…

    *(gulp)*

  97. Lets have huge black ppls meeting and make Webster change the meaning in the dictionary, and then we will be all good.. . How many of yall in here are this. . .

Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive. a. a black person.

    b. a member of any dark-skinned people.

    2. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive. a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc.

    3. a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised.

Why the ***** are we talkin bout this. Ask ya’ll grand mother/fathers and Greatgrand mother/father- how they feel on the matter. Yall holdin on to angry many of them have let go. WHY?!? If we know this isnt want we are why are we mad???

  98. *what*

  99. And I aint talking about grandparent and Greatgrandparents in their 30’s, 40’s or 50’s. I am talking about the ones, that was born in the early 1900’s. Ask them, let them tell you.

  100. Mickit you’re just plain “IGNORANT”. Look up the definition of that word in Webster’s.

  101. MiStYbLuE

SPEAK FOR YOURSELF BOO, WHILE WHITE PEOPLE MAY BE THE MAJORITY, AND BLACKS THE MINORITY. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OPPROTUNITIES IF YOU **TAKE** THEM. TAKE BEING THE OPPERATIVE WORD. IM A YOUNG, SUCCESSFUL BLACK WOMAN. I TOOK EVERY OPPROTUNITY I WAS GIVEN, AND SOME THAT WERENT. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT. PITFALLS AND STUMBLING BLOCKS ARE OUT THERE FOR MINORITIES BUT IT IS UP TO US TO RISE ABOVE THEM. ITS REALLY UP TO US TO DECIDE WE WILL NOT BE DEFINED OR DENIED BECAUSE OF OUR SKIN COLOR.

  102. just did witeshoes and I posted it.

  103. WHAT IS THIS ***** MISTYBLUE TALKING ABOUT?

  104. Witeshoes, you calling me a *****!?!- tisk tisk, now play nice.

  105. No Mickit, I’m calling you uninformed.

  106. Witeshoes your opinion on this pls.

You know what you are as a person and you also know what you are not. My greatgrand mother told me that she has been called a ***** most her life.

But, once she learned to read and could take care of herself had a job and her own damn house. She was a ***** no more.

  107. My Dearest response to being called a *****. . . . “If that makes you feel better callin me names, go right ahead and call me what ya want! I know what I am and what I aint. I am strong enough to handle your need to feel important and special. For you, this I will do.”

If this woman who rasied me can let this go and she actually went through it day in and day out. I can let it go as well.

  108. vj

This album is going to be like the rest of his albums….flops!

  109. Little Wing

How is Nas not Coon Of The Day, Bossip?

  110. He wins Coon of the Day

  111. He wins Coon of Week, maybe year

  112. Dolla Bill

How about Coon of the year

  113. Dolla Bill

*****..Why not Coon of the decade…LOL

  114. witeshoes, here is another defintion of the word

1usually offensive; see usage paragraph below : a black person

2usually offensive; see usage paragraph below : a member of any dark-skinned race

3: a member of a socially disadvantaged cl***** of persons

usage ***** in senses 1 and 2 can be found in the works of such writers of the past as Joseph Conrad, Mark Twain, and Charles *****ens, but it now ranks as perhaps the most offensive and inflammatory racial slur in English. Its use by and among blacks is not always intended or taken as offensive, but, except in sense 3, it is otherwise a word expressive of racial hatred and bigotry.

  115. Blue Eyed Devil

As long as we’re talking about *that* word, have any of you ever read “Toms, Coons, Mulattoes, Mammies, & Bucks” by Donald Bogle?

  116. who, me

I don’t really like it but hey, ***** Gregory has an autobiography out called *****. Although it was released in 1964, I think.

Here’s an excerpt from the book:

And now we’re ready to change a system, a system where a white man can destroy a black man with a single word. *****. “When we’re through, Momma, there won’t be any *****s any more.”

Hopefully NAS is taking this type of approach on the album.

  117. @ Blue Eyed Devil

No I haven’t, whats up with it?

  118. Blue Eyed Devil

It’s a really interesting book about black archetypes and stereotypes in film / media over the years and how they’ve been rejected, reclaimed and co-opted by the people they were aimed at. Fits right into this discussion, no?

  119. FyreStarrter

@Blue Eyed Devil. It is VERy fittinf that you bring up that book. It indeed fight in VERY well with this discussion. The first time I got called a ***** I was 16 years of age & had just moved to the South from Parts elsewhere. My Father had of course explained to me what the word meant but to be honest because I had never heard it before (at least aimed directly at me) it had NO effect on me whatsoever. In fact the person that used that word was most offended because I DIDN’T respond to his ***** poor attempt at a racial slur. There’s 2 schools of thought here (ok maybe more than 2) & I am anxious to see WHICH school NAS has enrolled in.

  120. In a Rub-a-Dub Style A.K.A. Victorious

so what? I just hope its a good album. Cuz with a name like *****, it better be a masterpiece.

  121. Blue Eyed Devil

I’m right there with you. I read the book during a History of Black Cinema course I was taking and it was pretty eye-opening. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about race and history in America, but the way he broke it down was pretty crazy.

  122. Mickit, you must take into account the history and how the word originated. It’s not about letting go it’s about remembering how we struggled to be cl*****ified as 5/5 of a man not 4/5 as written in the Constitution of the United States. Stupid.

  123. Stupid (witeshoes) the constitution wasnt written for woman (white), white poor men or anyone else that wasnt over 18, a man and owned land – dummy. And again find out what the word ***** really meant – you big dummy.

  124. again witeshoes I post. . .

I am, You are and no one else here is defined by that word, why do YOU allow it to have so much power over you. No one said forget, we are saying MOVE ON!

  125. Also witeshoes it was 3/5 not 4/5

  126. MEME

HAHA Bossip lost…… because the cover is FAKE!!!!!……. It looks good… but it’s not the actual cover for the album……

  127. SpearChucker

yeah witeshoes I think you’re referring to the 3/5 Compromise, which is not part of the Constitution

you know not of what you speak so do us all a favor and stop

  128. Oh How I Wonder

LOL @ some of these comments! For all that are judging this piece without a clear understanding of how Nas is trying to present it to you, I just challenge you to be a little more open minded and see what drove him to call the album *****. And to those of us who are in support of hearing the message and the content of this album we need to ask ourselves “If a white person brought this same album out, would I be this open-minded?” For most of us the answer would be a definative and collective HELL NO! Very thought provoking and controversial! Good debate material.

  129. @Oh How I Wonder.

“If a white person brought this same album out, would I be this open-minded?. . . ”

Oh How I Do Not Care. Not because it was a white or black man doing it, but because what I said before.

  130. SpearChucker

I take it back amendments count..but you’re still 4/5ths of the way wrong!

  131. universalbliss

    love u nas!

  132. oh ish, I dont know what happen to the rest of my post, i refuse to retype it. Anyway OHIW, it just doesnt matter to me anymore. Regardless who says it. A word does not bother men. ACTIONS do.

  133. *me*

  134. Oh How I Wonder

LOL @ oh how I do not care!

  135. Oh How I Wonder

Mickit, I definately agree with you regarding the struggle of our people and Im not in anyway shape or form trying to downplay that struggle for equally and justice that our ancestors, grandmothers and grandfathers fought so hard to achieve. I just feel as though this was done for SHOCK value in order to convey a message of some sort…Not sure of what that message is at this point because I havent heard the album

  136. OHIW, glad to make you laugh. I was wondering I could get away with just a “l”=laugh.

  137. Im not either OHIW, I have been accused of doing that. I dont care what Nas or anyone else wanna name their album. I just think that it is time to move on with some things. NO one never said forget, just move forward.

  138. Will Smif

OHIW nailed what I wanted to talk about. Sure, naming your album “*****” is about shock value, but is it shock value to sell albums or is it shock to open up a dialogue?

  139. MEME

And I don’t know why people are pre-judgin’ the content of this album and Nas’ intentions when aint *****ody even heard a SNIPPET of this album……. fall back…….

  140. camb0diasfyne$t

well i hope his album compensates for the title! cuz if not hes gonna get the biz for real… i hope he isnt doing it for publicity

  141. MEME

Well Nas never came off as the type to bask attention in his entire career…… If you are familiar wit’ Nas and his music…. you would know that he’s a serious artist……

  142. ESJAYO

Oh, How Sad. It is a dark day in Hip-Hop, When a top shelf lyricist has to resort to such tactics to sell records. Nas managed to make quality music at least half his career without sacrificing his craft, and now this? WTF Nas? Too bad his bosses at Def Jam forgot to lock him in the studio with all the items he needs (including DJ Premier) to make a good album. Remember when?

  143. MiStYbLuE

@ witeshoes … why do i have to be a ***** because im a strong and intelligent black woman. the way black men or even white men stoop to calling females “*****es” is the same ignorance that has people still using the N word. you want to belittle someone and bring them down to your level because your’e incapable of reaching a more heightened level of intelligence. if you dont understand a comment, ask. and then i can school you like the dumb ***** you are. the comment was directed at renegreo who cares what white people think of him because he is stuck with the whites have everything and blacks have nothing mentality. if thats the mentality you have, you probably do have nothing. but me, im writing this response in my california king bed on my mac which happens to be in my big ***** 3500 sq loft in CHI-town … so YOU CANT TELL ME NOTHING BEING A HAVE NOT

  144. Will Smif

“im writing this response in my california king bed on my mac which happens to be in my big ***** 3500 sq loft in CHI-town”

    How *you* doin’?

  145. prettygirlnc

LUV ME SOME NAS…LOVE THE TITLE LETS SEE WHAT THE MEDIA HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS..WE CANT CALL EACH OTHER THE NWORD.THEY BAND THE WORD AT THE COMEDY CLUBS .NAS SAYS I CAN CALL MYSELF WHAT EVER THE F I WANT,AND U CANT STOP ME FROM SAYING THE WORD…GOOOOOOOO NAS!!!

  146. MiStYbLuE

LOL @ WILL SMIF … HOW U DOIN

  147. Im at the house too. Its about 3200 under roof, out-door kitchen, fiber-gl***** pool, etc. etc. lol. Im with ya Misty.

  148. MiStYbLuE

@ EDDIE CANE JR … I DONT KNOW WHAT NONESENSE YOURE TALKING ABOUT BUT YOU COULD GET AN INVITE IF YOU A TENDA & OVER THE AGE OF 35

  149. Will Smif

    @ Eddie Cane

BACK UP! I SAW HER FIRST!

    You know, I can cook…

  150. Mary J Blige

has anyone here seen Raz B?

  151. MJB, y didnt I get no invite to the album release party?

  152. Will Smif

The release party was standing room only, Mickit. Santa, Jesus, Frosty, and *all* of the Harlem Globetrotters showed up and the fire department threatened to shut the party down if any more elves snuck in.

  153. MiStYbLuE

@ WILL SMIF .. THEN YOU CAN DEF COME ON OVER

BUT ON TO THE SUBJECT, I AM JUST AS EDUCATED AND ENLIGHTENED TO THE PLIGHT OF THE BLACK MAN MYSELF, BUT I FAIL TO SEE WHAT THE CONTROVERSY IS OVER NAS NAMING AN ALBUM *****. IF IT IS TRULY AN INTROSPECTIVE *****YSIS OF THIS WORD AND ITS ORIGINS AND HOW IT AFFECTS US AS A RACE HOW IS IT ANY DIFFERENT THAN RANDALL KENNEDY’S “*****” OR ANY OTHER BOOK ON THE SUBJECT. THIS DOESNT NECESSARILY HAVE TO BE A PUBLICITY STUNT IT COULD BE A RAPPERS WAY TO DISECT A WORD DOWN TO ITS SIMPLEST POINT UNTIL IT MEANS NOTHING.

  154. Will Smif

Exactly. I reserve judgment until I hear the album. Nas seems like a guy with an opinion and an artistic point of view and not a cheap opportunist. I’ll wait to see what he has to say.

  155. MiStYbLuE

@ WILL SMIF WE CAN LISTEN TO IT IN MY CALI KING LOL

  156. Will Smif

I make a mean Puttanesca lasagna. You like Italian? I’ll have to come over early, though. The sauce alone takes about two hours.

  157. NaNasKitchen

I wish Nas was born in the times when we weren’t allowed to even walk on the same side as a white man. It’s sad that most who use this word, have no idea how many have been raped, beaten and murdered over and because of this word. He really needs to grow up.

  158. DM

This is your brain on drugs…

  159. i think that most of the people here that disses nas is either to young to know his body of work or they are not part of the hiphop culture. you can be black an have nothin to do with hiphop,so the fact that these comments are coming from black people doesnt surprise me.the average person that truly listens to nas kmows that he is not only intelligent, but he works to better the plight of black people in america.i noticed some cooments where they run down a list of his singles that he shot videos for. so i guess that makes them nas experts.

  160. MiStYbLuE

@ WILL SMIF …ITALIAN HAPPENS TO BE MY FAVE… SHALL I GIVE YOU DIRECTIONS??

  161. prima

    What ever

  162. sim1

I love Nas. I’m not happy about this title. he could have called it anything else and the material would still speak for itself and heads who like him would still purchase it. But noooooooooo, as if we haven’t had enough of the N word…lord have mercy..

There better be some real revolutionary, history telling, schooling of the youth type songs on here or I’m gonna write his ***** off. It better not be tribute to the ‘new *****’–that bull***** about taking the power out of the word. These younger heads just don’t know their history so the word doesn’t sting them like it did our ancestors and our grandparents. Like I said, there better be some real deal teaching on this album or I’m gonna be *****ed. I’ll reserve judgment until then.

  163. very cool.

  164. WOW, hold up Smif.I took a little nap and you done pulled out the George Foreman grill didnt ya. By the way 33 and a tenda………Man I hope this album doent flop. This kid is really reaching with this title. Good luck NAS. Back off I Am Legend

  165. Renee Rabbit

I have always been a NAS fan, BUT THAT IS JUST PLAIN IRRESPONSIBLE AS A BLACK PERSON (FORGET ARTISTIC LICENSE). Were does he get off. Racism is increasing, just look at statistics on the hate crimes within the last five years, and he is going to put some crap out (I dont care how well he raps) to confirm white folks unconcience and conciense beliefs about us! It is mine bogoling because NAS is not real young and he is old enough to remember the when the community exited the civil right era. He was born in the 70’s or late 60’s, so he knows better.

Whats he gonna do when hes on Jimmy Kimmel or somthin and he intros the album, for example. This is highly offensive.

This disturbes me because in the last 4 months, 3 nooses were found in work places in my city and I just want to know dont we have a responsibility to the community. Scratch “Make that Money” arent we supposed to reflect some possitivity?

  166. MURDA

im not gonna speak on the album until i hear it, but nas has never been degrading to black folks, his rhymes always empower, and educate folks. i see no change in this one.

  167. Built2Bully

@EVERYONE!!!! I CAN’T AGREE WITH YOU ALL MORE, THAT THIS NOTHING MORE THAN A VERY BAD STUNT BY ***** NAS TO MOVE UNITS. “HIP-HOP IS DEAD” DIDN’T DO THAT ALTHOUGH IT WAS A GOOD NOT GREAT CD. NO MATTER THE SUBJECT MATTER IN THE CD BECAUSE IN THIS SITUATION, PEOPLE ARE GOING TO JUDGE IT BY IT’S COVER. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT THIS CD WILL HAVE 100% OF HISTORICAL AND RACIAL VALUE WITH THE HOPES OF IMPOWERING AND INSPIRING YOUNG BLACK YOUTH… ALL IT TAKES IS ONE CLUB BANGER OR ONE RECORD FRIENDLY SONG TO PLAY ON THE RADIO AND ***** NAS’S EFFORT’S WENT FOR NOT… I USED TO LUV NAS, BUT HE HAS DONE SOMETHING THAT HE HAS FOUGHT AGAINST HIS WHOLE CAREER, BOWING DOWN TO THE RECORD LABEL… “MOVE PLAT UNITS OR YOUR DONE” PEOPLE, SAY THAT 50 AND YE START A FAKE BEEF TO MOVE UNITS… OK, BUT HAS IT COME TO THIS?????????? ***** NAS HAS OPEN A DOOR THAT WILL NEVER BE SHUT… I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THE CONTENTS OF THE SONGS ON THIS CD MAY CONTRADICT THE TITLE, BUT WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY WITH VERY SHORT ATTENTION SPANS, YET THIS TITLE WILL GET WHAT ***** NAS WANTED, ATTENTION… I JUST HOPE FOR HIS CAREER SAKE THAT HE CAN WITH STAND THE ETHER THAT WILL BE AT HIS FEET… I’M STARTING TO THINK THAT JAY-Z LEFT DEF JAM BECAUSE HE HEARD THAT THEY WERE GOING AHEAD WITH THE TITLE…LOL… DAMN, WHAT HAPPEN TO NASTY NAS…. I GUESS THE MONEY AND WANTING A LITTLE FAME HE WILL BE NOW CALLED ***** NAS…

  168. Lady Alexis

    Hello Board, 1st timer,

I won’t comment on the content of album, ’cause I haven’t heard any of it.

But the cover will go down in history, trust, this will be talked about debated and regurgitated!

As art, the cover, i so dig it

considering the source of the cover, I mean it’s NAS, he fought for this, it’s a method to his madness.

  169. People are *****ing crazy. I like NAs I like THe Title I like the album cover. If you are Black and hate the word *****, then please throw away all your rap cds, stop watching Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, The Chappelle Show. After you finished with that hold your own “mock” funeral for the word. If you are that lame to think that this”word” is the root of thr problem for the Black community, then you dont know *****. If you are “mad” cause a White person says the word ***** when purchasing this album you are a lame. If all Nas wanted to do was to name his album ***** because he can, I support him on that. Go mentor in your communities and stop complaining on website’s message boards, *****!

  170. luvsmoochez

I was really disappointed with the last overhyped NAS project, so he is writing a large check and I hope his azz can cash it! This betta not be media hype or marketing bull*****. I will wait until this drops, but reeally hope that he returns to the genius that made him great. (fingers crossed) The title is not a problem for me, but the content will make or break him.

  171. John

I THOUGHT THEY BURIED THE “N” WORD!!!

  172. kilo

    @M-DADDY

I’m a 27 years old white men, the name or the album is *****!

    What’s up now mother*****er!!

  173. kilo

And by the way 70% of NAS’s fans (or any rapper) are white boys!

  174. Bahama Mama

Is it everything that you thought it would be?

    Discuss.

^^^ SHUT UP bossip! WHAT?? iz he suppose to be dress’d in some baggy jeans and sideways hat and a throwback jersey? LMAO but i am mad with that look he has on his face…lol!

  175. Bahama Mama

And by the way 70% of NAS’s fans (or any rapper) are white boys!

^^ iz that right? what u work for the music statics department?

  176. kilo

    @ Bahama Mama

Do some reserch *****, if you know anything about the music industry, you know i’m right.

Exept maybe for SOULJA BOY (lmao) 100%black

  177. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Well, the album did what it was supposed to do cause you are all talking about it. He won’t get a dime of my money, but discussion is always a good thing.

  178. And by the way 70% of NAS’s fans (or any rapper) are white boys!

^^ iz that right? what u work for the music statics department?

BMama, who in hurrr callin you a *****??

  179. Wow! Nas is still alive? Hm…

  180. Simmy

If I hear one white person say the word ***** I will go ape*****!!! Cuz already white people are itchin to say the word. This gives them more power

I dont know about this one

  181. Enuff nonsense

    It’s about time…

Peace to all the *****s, spicks, crackers, pakis, etc.

  182. tlatrice

People always comment on how our ancestors were stung by that word and act like hip hop is just SO wrong for using it.

BUT I WAS BORN IN 1974 and growing up I only heard BLACK people using the word. And *****ody seemed to be offended then.

Nas has always been one of the more positive rappers. I’ll wait to hear the album before I p***** judgement.

People are crying ‘he’s opening a door that will never be shut’ and ‘this is gonna cause a lot of people pain’. Bull*****! None of the other books that have had similar titles (mentioned throughout this blog) have caused pain. Get over yourselves people.

If you live and die by one man’s opinion, you have no life anyway and that’s not Nas’ fault – it’s yours.

  183. Nev

    genius.

  184. The 'Cane

genius ill safe my judgement until i get to hear this album. i used to be a big nas-fan ever since illmatic came out. im sorry folks, but once he signed to def jam – that was it for me. i just cant take him serious anymore after all what happened between him and jigga.

i still wish him the best of luck combining artistic integrity with high record sales.

  185. The 'Cane

actually i have to ask – are there any white people partaking in this discussion? lol

  186. silversurfer

I Think the way he is dressed, (Check the Gl*****es) and the B&W Photo reminds me of the Famous Malcolm X Quote on a TV Show in the 1960s: “What does White America call a Negro with a PHD?”

I bet NAS had this concept in Mind for the Cover.

    Jus my $.02.

  187. silversurfer

    * Sorry, thought he had gl*****es on.

  188. Built2Bully

  189. uhhhhh

If a word is racist and bigoted, why keep using it and promoting it? Totally illogical.

  190. Nic

ok so if someone white buys this album are they racist?!

  191. cocoa

don’t get mad when that white boy goes into the store and ask the store clerk ” give the that n—er cd”. now they can say it more freely so suck it up and just smile…..oh thank nas…just to make a dollar.

You should take your own advice, appently you would have us live and die by yours. As you stated you were born in 1974, not 1924, 34, 44, 54, but 74. You perspective of this word is at best limited. You can like Nas and his recording projects, but please don’t try to tell people what words they should live and die by. You are not qualified to do so.

  194. IspotDivas

    Nun Ye-

I wish you could have been that little girl who had a white man, woman and child, spit in her fasce when she came into the store to buy candy and was told we don’t serve “Ni**ers” here. Or to have the very police that are suppose to protect you inform your parents that the store owner has his rights and you shouldn’t have been in the store. How quickly we forget the pain of our forefathers and mothers to serve our own selfish purposes. I suppose we all have our own opinions, I guess the next time someone spits in a childs face we should thank them for having saliva glands.

These are stories of the South. If you haven’t lived it, please don’t make light of it.

  195. georgia

i think this album cover is quite good. its part of nas’s message, hes putting a word which has negative *****ociations with a picture of a what looks like a well educated person with a positive image. he is trying to bring to our attention how much upset this word can still bring aboout.

  196. richie

    Here’s what I wanna know:

Will he freely USE the word “*****” on this album when NOT making an intellectual point(“so that ***** said” or “my ***** Fooquan”)? If so, that would completely negate his supposed purpose.

  197. It’ll get him talked about for sure. The only thing is that covers like this worry me, as I automatically *****ume that they are there to disctract us from a severely mediocre album!?!

  198. Tiffany

For Nas to put out an album titled “*****” I think everyone knows it will be far from ignorant. Nas and Talib are the only 2 artist I would trust with this concept. I have faith in him. :) Go Nas!!!

  199. Renee Rabbit

    You People are seriously decieved!!!!

  200. Built2Bully

Nas only cares about sales… thats it… @Tiffany, Even Talib doesn’t have enough credit to do something like this. He has not devoted his career to politcal hip-hop, niether has ***** NAS. Public Enemy— YES, KRS-1—YES, They are the only two that I can’t think off the top of my head right now that have the respect anf the clot to deal with this “*****” Title… As far as it being ignorant I have to disagree… this is the same guy “***** NAS” who did “OOCHIE WALLA” Yes, the is “ONE MIC” AND “IF I WORLD THE WORLD” (IS BIGGEST HIT SO FAR IN HIS CAREER). So, I just think that ***** Nas is in it for the money now, and there is nothing wrong with that… BUT SAY IT, DON’T NAME YOUR ALBUM THIS AND TELL US THAT IT WILL BE AN COMPLETE POLITCAL ALBUM WHEN WE ALL KNOW IT WON’T BE.

  201. Truffsaya!

    *SMH*@ Nas!

  202. ms.karla

ONLY A REAL ***** OR ***** WOULD BUY THIS *****. NAS I AIN’T EVEN GONNA ***** WITH YOU LIKE THAT! RESPECT YOURSELF PEOPLE DON’T BUY THAT *****!

  203. young

I bet when it is released it will have a sticker across the title cuz retailers wont be able to sell it otherwise i dont think like target and bestbuy

  204. playlist

nas is one the best and definitely one of the smartest emcees…i’m not sure who, where, why, or what’s up with this but i’m definitely gonna listen

  205. NAS IS NO STUPID TO NAME HIS ALBUM WITHOUT A GOOD CONCEPT AND IF REALLY LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS,YOU WILL KNO WHAT GOD’S SON IS TRYIN TO DO….IGNORANCE KILLIN SOME OF US..***** ALL THEM HATERS.

  206. Iam a white dude but iam ridin with Nas..he a smart dude and i respect what he doing.
