I read on cnn.com the other day that a man married off his 8 year old daughter to a 45 year old man to pay off his debt. Her mother is trying to fight it in court but it was denied. The 45 yr old man said he would consummate the marriage until she hit puberty. So what, like another 2 years!!!! Like he was doing something great. I don’t understand some people in this world.

But she may not have been a zealot about her religion like her family the disgrace was too great 4 her dad 2 bare. There are many stories overseas jst like this…. She knw she was gonna meet her maker soon her father’s behavior was not brand new 2 her sorry 2 say…

Regarding Muslim women wearing apparel that covers their entire body in the dead of summer; regardless of any Muslim…they are all EXTREME in that area!!

There are clothes created for good circulation, and technically Islam never said to cover your entire body…that is extreme.

Ladies must cover up to their wrists and ankles, as well as their hair. This is MOST important when you’re praying. It’s a symbol of modesty…

In Christianity, you have the Catholics with the nuns, and I know other various Christian-based faiths have similar policies. Off the top of my head I can name Jehovah’s Witnesses, although it’s not an all the time thing. With them, it’s something like if there’s a man present while praying, a woman must cover her head or something. Other Christian faiths do it too, and I believe it might be practiced in various forms of Judaism as well.

I see what you mean. I see it all the time when I visit my relatives. I have some male relatives who treat their women with respect and fairness (i.e my father), but then I have some who refuse to sit in the same room with me after I hit puberty…those are the same folk who helped raise me when my father and I lived alone.

Wherever you go it varies. Sadly these people have practiced the abuse so long the women think that’s the way life should be for them. In the Quran there are MANY rights given to women but it seems these are disregarded. Why? I don’t know. But the men take the idea of “wives should be obediant to their husbands” out of context. And that’s pretty much a “law” in EVERY religion I’ve come across.

I just think that the Muslim’s doctrine needs to be revamped….start over….and come up with 21st century rules about women…because like it or not people put them all in the same category….

There are muslim men who dress modestly too there are women that don’t. It is a good thing to some women to dress in full garb I have friends that have had to build themselves up to this point and are so happy they can walk around fully covered with out caring what other think. They were not forced it was a choice to show faith. I know some one right now that there male bishop tells them what they can wear including hose all year long, no opened toed shoes, no pants just long skirts, and if there shirts are to low cut for his taste.

I’m not going to defend them and say that she should killed but this is their CULTURE. As Americans, we don’t really have a culture. Each and every American is defined by their own beliefs and ideals. In my sociology course, we talked about this. One thing might be objectionable to someone else who doesn’t embrace their ideal but to others who are it is not at all questonable.

By saying that they are ARAB and that’s why they do that is exremely biased. I have Arab friends and they are very civilized people. But some of them have very strict ideals. Like my friends are supposed to keep their virginities until they are married. THEIR ARE RELIGIOUS EXTREMIST IN EVERY RELIGION AND WITHIN EVERY GROUP OF PEOPLE….STOP TARGETING ARABS!!

Actually, it’s of the most unique properties of the Quran…meaning, the Quran is proven by Imams and Ministers alike to be in it’s original form.

Which is probably why it seems so harsh and odd to apply to this day and time. The Bible (which Muslims are taught to believe in as well…but the original form) has been translated into so many different forms to fit the needs of selfish Kings that birthed the many sects of Christianity. When in essence God asks for you to fear him, love him, be good to yourself and others. All of the gazillions of “rules” are just bad interpretations of greedy men.

Now everyone reading this post thank GOD at 2:30pm to have simutanious prayer thanking him for being born in America! I get a sad feeling when I read things like this. I would defend Islam the same as I’d defend Christianity and Judaism because I was taught to believe in every single one…I will not argue religion with you because it is pointless, nor is there a right or wrong answer. In our everyday lives we should practice what is logical and fair, and what you think is appropriate in the eyes of God. Sadly, people misconstrue what appropriate means.

Now, just because people have digressed so much from the word of God does NOT mean it’s okay to revamp a religion, or throw it out. That is the peoples fault at the end of the day. I am by no means a saint, but I use my head. You can’t take religion literally because it’s written almost poetically…everything is subjective and percieved differently.

I have no qualms with you, but religion isn’t as cut and dry as you’re making it seem.

I’m going to have to give credit to my family. Yes Beyonce stated she is a Christian not to sure about Rihanna, Chris Brown or Christina, but these are individuals who are living their lives according to how they see it, the have no authority when it comes to Christianity they are celebrities so I don’t know where you are going with that. And you don’t hear any devout Christians willing to murder them because they are not practicing the religion according how Jesus prescribed. In Christianity we all know that judgment is from God not at the hands of an other human being, really God does not need humans to fight his battles for him he is stronger than that.
If Mohamed is your example and authority figure the same way Jesus is for Christians then Mohamed does not measure up. Mohamed advocated violence, polygamy, practiced pedophilia. As for Jesus he was against the stoning of the adulterous wife, he showed mercy, he advocated turning the other cheek when it came to dealing with your enemies and never did he say kill in the name of God and force conversion on those who refuse to accept Christianity.

Me this is how I know that you don’t even know what you are talking about, any simple Muslim would argue with you that Allah’s word is one and that there are no other versions of the Koran because the book was inspired by God. I don’t necesarily agree with that point since I think no part of the Koran was inspired by God but that is the general claim of Muslims

Contradictions
Mohammed commanded his disciples to use violence against those who do not accept Islam, yet he said violence should not be practiced in the name of religion. Jesus never advocated war in the name of God

There are so called Christian groups who have added doctrines that contradict the Bible, but my source is Christ and he never contradicts

Muslims generally admit Jesus never sinned. The Koran nowhere claims that He sinned
However when look at Mohammed he does not measure up for the reasons below:

Violence
Mohammed used violence, including assassination, to defeat and convert men to Islam

Broken treaties
While ruling in Medina, Mohammed made an agreement not to attack Mecca for 10 years. He then attacked the people very next year

Polygamy and Paedophilia
Mohammed had more than 9 wives and several concubines during his lifetime – his marriage 9 year old Aisha is disturbing as it can get no prophets in the Old Testament or the decipleas and apostles of the New Testament stooped that low

Revelations for his personal benefit
Mohammed revealed that men could have multiple wives, 4 to be exact. Meanwhile he had more than 9 wives..Jesus did not have a single wife he dedicated his life to preaching God’s word and performed the ultimate sacrifice be dying on the cross for our sins

I agree with Lady J this religion needs to be revamped but I would go further and say it should be abandoned all together
