Mya’s Making Excuses

Mya was recently asked the inevitable question of possibly being dropped from her Universal/Motown. Her response to moving to another label was:
I don’t really want to sign to another label. If you end up funding most of your projects, why not distribute your own product and make 100 percent of your profits?
This would sound good coming from another artist. Honestly, we really don’t think anyone is interested in signing Mya, but someone has a D-list movie script with her name on it.

I don’t care what anyone says. From the first video with Sisquo, “Its all About Me,” to how she has developed now I give her credit for even lasting a decade. How many artists can say they made a solid living for over a decade? And I like the weight she has added, me like somewhat thick Mya
She really needs to just marry well and call it a day….

EVERY ALBUM HAD DIFFERENT PRODUCERS AND SONGWRITERS, YOU NEVER KNEW WHAT HER SOUND REALLY WAS.SHE NEVER HAD A CONSIST CD.
Does someone have a plan B for Mya? I think Amerie stole her f-list singing swag.

She just needs to enroll in a local community college and pick up a skill or two, clearly the music business is not working out. I would not recommend teaching as her alleged addiction to sex, we don’t want no black Mary Kay Laturner scandal. lord knows we got enough ***** ups in the race who make us cringe on a daily basis.

@ Weezy, perfectly said. I’ve listened to a coupla her interviews back in 97(sarcasm included) and she always came off a bit arrogant and conceited with nothing else to offer. And on top of that she can’t sing better than JLO. GTFOH and go do ***** so at least I can support your career.

I thought she did her dancing thing before she got into music. She can always teach dancing or c*****ograph for videos but I doubt she’ll go in that direction. If she became more of a songwriter, wrote for other artists and those songs became hits, she’d have it made in the shade. If she’s smart, she should have plenty of opportunities (in the industry).
If she can do it, more power to her.

Mya been finished. The world is saturated with cute female singers. Learn how to play an instrument. Look at Alicia Keys rocking the piano and writing her own songs. She shut all those no talent chicks down.

last interview i read about her i think was vibe vixens last issue, i believe she has a dance studio where she teaches dance, she did a cpl movies so that is always an option

I agree. She needs to find her own niche. Artists like Beyonce, Mariah and Alicia Keys found ways to stand out and set themselves apart somehow. Mya needs to find her own place in music or wherever her career takes her. A pretty face only takes you so far.
yall need to think out of the box.what makes her any less talented than rhianna or however you spell her name. mya can even sing better than ciara or christina millian.(they are all beautiful,)if its a market out there for something as odd as riverdancing, then theres also a market out there for r&b singers
What she said actually does make sense. If your promoting yourself, then promote yourself! Don’t sit around for years waiting on the label to do something. You know how it works.
NOW MYA WAS ONE OF THOSE ARTIST WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN A HIATUS BECAUSE SHE HAS NO REAL TALENT TO SPEAK OF SO SHE SHOULD HAVE FLOODED THE MARKET WHILE SHE WAS A HOT COMMODITY, THEN INVESTED, SAVED, ETC SO THAT WHEN HER 30 MIN WERE OVER (LETS FACE IT, SHE DIDNT HAVE THE USUAL 15 CAUSE SHE’S JUST SO DARN PERTTY) THEN SHOULDNT WOULDNT BE ON HER WAY TO A CAREER THAT ONLY BONES JORDAN COULD SUPPORT LOL… MAYBE RICHARD TOO LOL … SHE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A QUE FROM BEYONCE AND WORKED IT TIL PEOPLE GOT TIRED OF HER THEN FADED OFF SOMEWHERE. ONLY PEOPLE WITH REAL SINGING CAPABILITY, ETC ARE ABLE TO TAKE A BREAK AND COME BACK TO SUCCCESS. POOR BABY. I HOPE SHE DONT END UP *****ING FOR TRACKS.. most of the time in the music indusrty its not about talent…its about who you know….exibit A Mya…uncle or father knew people at university records/interscope. exibit B Aaliyah(R.I.P)…uncle managed R.Kelly and had strong connects at Jive Records. exibit C. Lloyd mother is a showbiz mom and knew alot of A&R people in the ATL. and so many others i can’t think of right now.
MYA IF you want some musical advice:
stick to just 1 or 2 producers for your next project for that “consistant sound”.pick songs with memerable melodies.
work with producers who have success working with light voices: R.Kelly (changing Faces,Nivea, Sparkle, Aaliyah) of course you might have to sleep with him, but seeeing as you both are “sex addicts” there ain’t a problem there.
Neyo (Rihanna,Paula Deanda) again…you might have to sleep with him or paint each others nails, but hey it will be worth it.
and if all else fails…find Sisqo and ressurect both your careers with a duet.

she is pretty but pretty can only take you so far. i work in the industry and to be honest…beyonce has the game on lock, it’s hard for all female artists out there. *****ody can touch b right now. they all need to pack it up. except for alicia…but notice, alicia came back all dolled-up and singing about love. and going back to mya…universal released 3 of her singles in preparation for the “album”, 2 videos and did mad promo for her. they did what they could, the rest it up to the people. it’s been a rap for the girl for years. i’m sure she’s nice…but yea, she needs to stop datin ugly dudes from the dmv aka dc maryland virginia and marry rich. i’m rootin for u mya.
^^^Madd promo like what?the last time I seen Mya on televison was in 2003.Her promo for this album was basically on Bossip,MTO,and Concreteloop.Motown is screwing over on all of they’re artists from Nelly to Mya from Mya to Ashanti.I agree with Mya,hell she’ll come off better if she does go the independent route compared to what Motown has done for her.
MOTOWN been that way for years they have a string of failed releases, due to poor promo or marketing i mean who is that last big artist from MOTOWN besides india Arie…ain’t she my girl and all but she ain’t that big either
