The sad news is that they were referring to Rihanna and her New Year’s Eve performance. The writer didn’t bother to mention her name until the end of the second paragraph.
Damn. You would think that she was on the auction block with a headline like that.

Yes, there are large numbers of blacks moving to Europe, mostly Africans and West Indians from countries that were colonized by certain countries. However, please don’t make it seem like there is less opposition and discrimination. I’ve been to Paris a few times and while it is a wonderfully diverse city, I have had some friendly encounters with natives and some not so friendly. For example on my first trip there, my boyfriend and I got on the Metro during rush hour. Okay, I admit I was looking fierce…and this young, handsome professional white guy jumped up to give me his seat. WTH, you should have seen the glare that this older woman gave him. She looked at him with such disgust. I couldn’t help but smile at him and give him a sweet “merci beaucoup”. Her face turned red as I took the seat beside her.
On another occasion, this elderly white lady pushed my luggage off this narrow side walk as my man and I were heading towards a cab to head to Charles de Gaulle airport. I don’t speak French and motioned for her to pass by me since she had a cart and I had luggage. Anyway, she stands there, glares at me and then goes off in French. I know she was cussing me out and called me “afrique” blah, blah, blah. Anyway, I so wanted to slap the shit out of her for nearly pushing my luggage off the sidewalk, but I don’t do foreign jails. LOL, all I could do was to call her an imbecile and stupid since she’d probably understood that.:-)
Anyway, the point is the minorities go to Europe seeking opportunities but are just as discriminated against and disenfranchised as anywhere else in the world. Yeah, they may love the celebrities, the athletes, and entertainers, but the average minority doesn’t have it easy. And interracial relationships are NOT indicative of a racially harmonious utopia…hell, they love us, especially the women because of stereotypes and our “exotic” intrigue.

The reporter should have also stated that when George Michael performed it was for a concert which was for over 2 hours. Rihanna gave a performace for a small party for 20 minutes, therefore, there would obviously be a difference in the fee charged.

The thing is…she wasnt paid in pounds…she was paid in dollars…and at the current exchange rate thats less than £250k…so even if she was paid in £500K that wouldn’t be “over 1 million US dollars..the dollar isnt that strong.
I am very offended by the content of that article. It is also strange to read that people are more at odds over the price charged for Rihanna’s perfomance rather than the offensive language used in the article.
It doesn’t matter if she was paid in Pounds, US dollars, the Euro or the Russian Ruble or whether the amount was 500K or 1 mil. In fact none of us really know was was charged…all we know is what some newpaper quoted – and we don’t even know if its a credible newspaper at that. Blacks visitors are encouraged not to leave your hotel after dark. People openly glare at you when you walk down the street. Skinheads roam in packs. You are correct that my impressions of Russia and Russians are subjective, all personal impressions are. But Russians are the most racist people that I/I have ever encountered. I know the difference between propaganda and reality. I also know what it is like to walk down he street in that godforsaken country; people are openly hostile to you. I once purchased something in a store and the clerk kinda threw my change back at me, afraid to touch my hand like the Sade song “Immigrant”. Have had more crazy, racist incidents in that country than I care to remember. I have been all over the world, from Bogota to Ulan Bator (look it up) and know a little something about people… Russians are racist. Period.

Sweetie, I’ve been Europe and travelled many places, probably more than you. I know alot of Blacks migrate to Europe, predominately those coming from Africa and the Caribbean.
