Vick Might Be Back on the Field in ‘09

This news is most likely either going to piss people off or bring a smile to their faces. Michael Vick has set himself up to possibly get out of prison before we thought:
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick could be getting out of federal prison much earlier than anticipated after applying for a prison-monitored drug rehabilitation program and evidently being moved into the program in Leavenworth, Kan. Under the program, Vick could be released after serving only 12 months of the 23-month sentence Vick was given Dec. 10 in Richmond, Va. The program could have Vick out of prison by the end of this year and perhaps back in the NFL by the 2009 season.
As it stands, Vick’s 23-month prison term could translate to a release in the summer of 2009, putting his attempts at a return to the NFL for that season in jeopardy. But if Vick were to be released in late 2008 or early 2009, his opportunity to return to the league after missing only two seasons would be boosted significantly. Members of Vick’s camp continue to hope that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will decline to tack on a lengthy suspension following Vick’s release from prison.
We won’t say that we are surprised that he might get out early.

I am not sure there will be a place for him in the NFL when he is 30 years old. The whole image thing is huge in the NFL. Star players put fans (dads,children,moms)in the seats, but really how many parents want to pay $300 for their family to go watch a guy who just was released from prison? That would be kind of hard to explain to the children (He just got out of federal prison, he went through the drug program, he tortured dogs). Quincy Carter had YEARS of drug rehab with the Cowboys before he was released, AND THEN GOT PICKED UP BY THE JETS! Brett Favre had a prescription med addiction, and look at him now. And lets not even go there with RICKY WILLIAMS. He’s failed the drug policy and been suspended 4 TIMES and Miami still took him back after 5 YEARS. So the point is that teams like talent, and if they want to will and they think he’ll help them out, then he’s in.

-Michael Irvin plead no contest to cocaine charges b/c he put it off on the strippers in his hotel room. He also somehow tested negative for cocaine. I know he was guilty, but bottom line is he did not test positive or plead guilty or attempt a plea bargain.

True. Vick wasn’t on top of his QB game. In the NFL you have to win, no ring no glory…very few exceptions. Although he was the only reason anyone cared about the Falcons.

The difference is that the humane society will put the dog to sleep humanely by injection i.e. euthenasia. In Vick’s and his co-horts case, they either electrocuted or hung the dogs, which is considered inhumane and unnecessarily cruel, bordering on sociopathy. He/They should’ve known better than to engage in this illegal and barbaric activity, given the public sentiment and organizations suchas PETA growing political sway and clout. Not everything is some “ANTI-BLACK CONSPIRACY”. A large part of this country takes the treatment and respect of animals seriously. In most situations, the common dog or cat is considered part of the family. Vick deserves his fate – GET OVER IT!

Vick put himself in this mess. He can’t blame anyone but himself. Just like we tell our students, as you move on in life there are some folks you need to let go of. And yes when white folk do stuff like this, they go off. It’s just we tend to keep making excuses for our buffons. The Jets got rid of him the next season.
He was recently arrested in Dallas and the local ESPN radio station bailed him out. He is currently unemployed since his drug problems won’t stop popping up. He is now in rehab. The NFl isn’t EVEN trying to help him.

The examples you used are wild animals, not domestic animals that the public are prone to project a closer emotional bond and empathy towards. Yes, you’re right, the judicial system is flawed and hypocritical, but that still doesn’t negate the fact that Vick and his co-horts should’ve known better, considering todays political and emotional atmosphere concerning the treatment of animals… Especially animals that are considered pets. my cousin was charged and convicted of dog fighting and animal cruelty. He won about $12,000 at the fight but there was a undercover agent there. He had to pay a $2000 fine, he also had to go to jail for 4 weekends. he turned hisself in on friday nights and he was released on sunday evening, for 4 weeks

I don’t condone what Vick did to the dogs but lets put things into perspective; not even the DC sniper, Ray Carruth (killed his girlfriend), Leonard Little (killed someone via DUI) or Brandy recieved the kind of hate Vick recieved, if at all or had a campaign of hate like Vick recieved; all FOUR killed people but Vick – again, I don’t condone what he did – gets ALL THE HATE AND VENOM TOWARDS HIM. Vick was banned from the NFL for killing dogs but Little wasn’t for killing someone via DUI; Are dogs more valuable then people? Hate towards Vick goes, I think, for a couple reasons:
1. He killed the very animal we value in Western society and there was a radical group ripe for the pounce. There’s a lab in England that beat Beagles, a similar org to PETA nearly bombed the place. It’s how we roll.

2. He was a celebrated, but notorious, QB, who gave the finger to his fans. Had he returned punts in Cleveland, he never would’ve made page 8.
