Columbine High School Locked Down Following Shooting Threat

Via NYDailyNews

Columbine High School was placed on lockdown Monday, the school district said.

Jeffco PublicSchools tweeted that classes will continue as scheduled but no one is allowed to leave the building in Littleton, Colo.

“This is one of many threats that we’ve had at Columbine High School over the past 15 years,” Jefferson County Officer Jacki Kelley told the Daily News. “We get them all the time. This threat to the school today is not extraordinary. It does not have any greater credibility than any of the hundred we have.”

Kelley said that law enforcement does not have the luxury of not taking every threat seriously even if most of them turn out to be inconsequential.

School officials have notified the parents.

A lockout is one of four emergency situations – along with lockdown, evacuations and shelter – for which the school has outlined a standard response protocol for teachers to follow.

During a lockout, there is a threat or hazard outside the building. Teachers are told to bring all students inside, stay particularly aware of their surroundings and take roll to make sure all students are present.

“We are taking internal action to make sure that they are safe,” Kelley said.

The school became synonymous with gun violence after a massacre in 1999 left 15 dead, including two gunmen. The national tragedy sparked a major debate on gun control in the United States.

No way to tell if the threat is legit or not, but after all these people have been through it’s a damn shame that someone would think this is cute.
