We are hearing rumors “The Man” or Harris Publications suddenly fired XXL Editor in Chief, Elliott Wilson, today. Poor thang. You know that Benzino is somewhere laughing in the cut if this is true. Click here to check out the new editor. SMH. We guess the new direction isn’t a Black one.

Good thing Bossip will never get fired, we own our sh*t.

I wonder if Bow Wow had anything to do with this since XXL did that list about why no one respects him.

  • CheltheOG

It’s just crazy to me because of how geasy he was just talking in last month’s issue with Jay on the cover re American Gangster, I mean, he was talking real BIG about not going nowhere and the haters can you know what….what could have possibly happened over the holidays to change his situation….things that make you say hmmmmmm……………

  • gary mack

All of those magazines on the rack will be put out of business because of the internet. Vibe, Source is in bankruptcy, Hip Hop Weekly is suffering big also. The ways Craigslist put a hurting on classified ads for city newspapers, bloggers are putting a hurtin on black magazines, big time.

    ———————————————-

Not everyone has the Internet and those who do go to one place-Myspace (especially black kids)

Part of what is really killing them is content. Why would I bother reading XXL when it’s only about 50 Cent, Jay-Z and Kanye. Why would I read Right On or Black Beat when they rehash the same stuff-I didn’t know there were 24 ways to say Omarion likes Strawberry Ice Cream. They even rehash the same posters.

If you are going to WASTE magazine space on flavor of the moment folk like 50, Bow Wow and others. A nice 3-4 page story on those lesser known folk can’t hurt. Or talk about those blacks who have a large white fan base. Talk about the black history on a page. Tell the story of WWE Shelton Benjamin, a guy that was ready to drop out at 16 before someone got him in wrestling. Tell me about Mara Brock Akil, Girlfriends creator or the fact a black woman gave us Grey’s Anatomy.

Explain the Vick situation or any situation that features one of us in trouble and give BOTH sides of the story.

Talk about films that don’t rely on Chris Brown for attention. You will be amazed at how many decent black films are direct to dvd.

Our kids (and some of us) are getting fed too much fluff. We don’t need fluff. We have to show our kids that you can be something other than a Soulja Boy or Chris Brown ripoff.

We have too many folk getting ignored because they won’t act a fool, degrade themselves or sell out.

  • Get Real

@ Ghost….not too many people know a black woman created their beloved Grey’s Anatomy…and I agree with black media outlets needing to let lesser known peeps get shine…….but I don’t think Bow wow could’ve gotten Elliot fired….he can’t even get Gyant from Sohh fired lol.

  • Tiki

@CheltheOg…Wow funny u should say that because i was thinking the same thing….at one point during the American Gangster promo he was splattered all over their blogs everyday….i swear i said to myself….is jigga PAYING him or what?…and what’s so crazy look at the issue he’s holding….

  • playlist

let’s be honest…XXL has 4th grade reading level, so if this guy is really good then he should be able to move onto something bigger and better no problem

  • Bronx Brawler

XXL fell off long time ago

  • Dolla Bill

People still buy and read XXL? LMAO

  • SILVER_spoon_IN_her_MOUTH

something tells me KEYSHIA COLE IS MARY J … and i think she just picked a celeb whose too bootleg to bother with a cease & desist order LMAO

  • dog-wtf

Isn’t that what always happens. The dark peoples artform inspires the masses, then once the lighter shades can full claim it as theirs as sort of gentrification takes place and the original dark people are no longer directly associated with the artform. People start forgetting who started that and the intensity of the art form becomes watered down.

It happened with Salsa, Jazz, Blues, Rock & Roll etc…

    History repeats itself.

  • bobshfdfgh

He is playful. Not sure why so many girls still like him.. It’ said he recently joined a celebrity and millionaire dating site named “SearchingM illionaire. com”. Many women winked at him there.

I use to work for XXl and I personally know Elliot. If this is true then he will be better off. Elliot has been there a long time and it is time to branch out. The majority of the staff is not african american anyway. We rush to buy this magazine as if our own are educating uson the world of hip hop. NOT TRUE there are only a handful of colored folk that work there. Goor luck Elliot you will be fine.

  • jen

Sorry that is Good Luck Elliot!

@ PRTTYBRWNGIRL thanks for asking that question about SMH I’ve been meaning to ask….

And why the hell does it have to be Black People that write about Black people, Its about knowing your product and theres some white kids out there that know more about hip hop than Black kids so why this turn in to a race thing YET AGAIN….can someone show me a blog on here where this issue ain’t brought up…….

  • PaigeyWaigey *BONES #1 STUNNA*

Never read this magazine….sounds like I wasn’t missing much.

  • miss thang

Ok…to the folks who seem to be perturbed by the audacity of Black people actually hoping that a mostly BLACK genre of music be presented by Black people:

Are you serious? no for real…are you?

Seriously tell me what is wrong with wanting to see at least HALF the staff of a HIP HOP magazine be BLACK/HISPANIC?

Do you all remember ther days when MTV refused to let Michael Jackson videos play?

Do you remember VH1′s no hip hop rule?

Do you remember no awards for hip hop at the major music award shows?

Do you know who got the whole movement started and who opposed it?

So why is it so outrageous to want to see the people who got this movement going, playing a major part in the education through journalism?

There is a difference between reading about something and LIVING IT.

  • cree

    i loved his editorials

  • dismymoney

Uh, I clicked on “click here” to see the new editor. It took me to a white girl’s myspace page, named nessness. Uh . . .is that right?
