Kobe is known for many things on and off the court; his ball handling skills are ridiculous, his ‘love’ for the ladies is legendary and now he can add bitchassness to his roster of talents. Flip the script for more
KOBE Bryant slam-dunked Spike Lee right before the taping of “Kobe: Doin’ Work” by demanding creative control over the documentary and forcing the director to drive to his house to beg for a meeting to save the project, sources told Page Six.
Lee had worked for months to get permission from Bryant, the Lakers team, coach Phil Jackson, the NBA and ESPN, which will air the day-in-the-life documentary on May 16. The director had already flown to Los Angeles, where 30 cameras were in place for the April 13, 2008, Lakers game against the San Antonio Spurs.
But suddenly Bryant said he wouldn’t cooperate unless he was granted creative control, sources said. Lee tried several times to call Bryant, who wouldn’t accept his calls. So Lee, at the suggestion of ESPN broadcaster Stephen A. Smith, drove to Bryant’s house in a gated community, where Bryant refused to see him, sources said.

I like Kobe. I’ve worked with him in the past and he’s not your typical dumb athlete. He’s smart, speaks fluent Italian and is an easy going guy. His wife might not be the most pleasant at all times, but that family is under a lot stress stemming from the fact that they got together young and they are constantly in the spotlight.

I ‘m not going to defend Kobe because he has done some things in the past that make it hard for me to respect him,but “one of the greatest filmmakers of our time” That statement is almost laughable. Spike Lee is every bit as egotistical and full of ***** as Kobe is and i would say that between the two them,Kobe is at a higher level in his career than Spike will ever be at his. Spike may be one of the most OVERRATED filmmaker of all time,but he DAMN sure isn’t one of the greatest. *****ody who knows anything about Film making will agree with that bull***** statement. His writing,storytelling and use of gimmick shots,not to mention his poor character development,especially with his female characters are almost laughable. Ther is a reason a lot of the more successful black actors in Hollywood WON’T work with Spike Lee on his films. Laurence Fishburne,Wesley Snipes,Delroy Lindo and even Samuel L Jackson have all worked with him and given great performances in his films yet none of them will work with him ever again. Spike sees himself as being an Actor’s director when the truth is ,he’s actually at his best when he makes do*****entaries featuring real life subject matters. When he actually has to work with actors,his weaknesses show through tremendously. Denzil Washington continues to work with Spike because of their friendship and because Spike knows that he has to give Denzil room to do his thing ,but he has failed miserably to do this with other actors not to mention that he refuses to let them grow. There was an entire ensemble of young Black Actors that worked with him when he first started and they all stopped working with him due to the fact that there was no room to grow with him. Spike started out strong with lots of potential,but somewhere along the lines he fell in love with himself and became the star of all his movies.A director is a lot like a record producer. If he shines more than the artist,than the project is a failure creatively. If the artist is able to shine than the project is a success because the creative vision has been attained. Somewhere along the way Spike forgot this,which is why his movies have been largely unsuccessful.
