Bea Arthur passed away on Saturday April 25th at the age of 86. Best known for her role as Dorothy on the Golden Girls, Bea played the sarcastic, biting shrew to a tee. Pop the hood for more

Arthur died peacefully at her Los Angeles home with her family at her side, family spokesman Dan Watt said. She had cancer, Watt said, declining to give further details.

“She was a brilliant and witty woman,” said Watt, who was Arthur’s personal assistant for six years. “Bea will always have a special place in my heart.”

Truly one-of-a-kind. No one else could have been “Maude” or “Dorothy” like Bea Arthur. She was the consumate professional. Her light in the business and the world will be missed.

Yeah I heard about this over the weekend. I love Golden Girls. RIP Bea Arthur😦

Only Rue McCalahan and Betty White are left (Blanche and Rose).

  • Darkesthourglass

I also heard about this over the weekend. Bea was a bit older than I thought but I was a bit surprised to hear this. Now she’s in a better place. Those Golden Girls were a trip.

  • Rae

    That is still my show!!!

Thank you for being a friend!

  • Whatever

Bea Arthur may have been best known to those 30 and under for her work on “The Golden Girls”.

But to those of us who are, say, 37 and up, she’s best remembered for her work on “Maud”. Donny Hathaway sang the opening theme. This show also gave us a classic spin off series: “Good Times”. Man, those were the days!!

  • Royal Chocolate

Loved her as Maude and those few episodes when she played Edith Bunker’s cousin on All in the Family. Few folks probably know that Esther Rolle was her maid on Maude but got her own show, Good Times.

  • mrbaggageclaim

Maude and The Golden Girls had two of the best theme songs ever. Donny Hathaway sang the theme song to Maude, and who can ever forget “Thank you for being a friend.” RIP Bea, BTW Maude was Edith Bunkers cousin, and Florida Evans (Good Times) was Maude and Walter Findley’s maid. I loved to hear Maude say, “God’ll get you for that Walter.”

She will be missed. Golden Girls is still so funny. Estelle Getty also–off the hook.
