I can’t see the trailer…
Is it a tv movie?
Sorry my friends but you CAN NOT top Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee or Louis Gossett Jr. nice try though
I forgot to hate(lol): I cannot understand how the “celebrity” has displaced the “actor”…Now, if you happen to be an actor who enjoys an enormous amount of celebrity then you’re fine BUTTTT if you don’t, you’ll surely lose out to men who rapped in ‘95 and own fashion empires or women who can sing or women who carry ailing dogs in LV bags. It’s crazy. Same goes for the model: celebrities have displaced her…Fashion Houses choose Lindsay Lohan not… well, there ya go…outside of the highly publicized models like Naomi and Kate, I can’t even think of a model. SMH. It burns me up, this obsession with celebrities. When they let them write columns for papers, I’m livid!
((applause))
The resounding applause is for you Sammy J. Parker. I totally agree with you. It’s amazing that the ones who put in the work to to to school and get a degree in the Arts are beat out many times by the singers or models whom claim that “this is my dream” to be a actor, poor I tell ya, just poor. Pamela Anderson was a regular columnist in Jane magazine. Her advice column was called “Pam Honestly”
@ TruelyUrs
of course those performances cannot be topped but they can be living examples of what good work is.
I personally will be looking forward to the performances.
and for that they can be paid tribute to.
Diddy is playing Walter Lee Younger!
JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL!
I WOULD WATCH IT, BUT I’M NOT CONVINCE OF A COUPLE OF THINGS….
NOT CONVINCE PHYLICIA RASHAD AS AN OLD LADY…SHE LOOKS DAMN GOOD…NO HOMO
NOT CONVINCED OF DUMB DUMB DIDDY’S ACTING SKILLS, I’LL NEED TO WATCH THE MOVIE TO HAVE AN ACUATE OPINION.
P.S. THAT OTHER CHICK LOOKS LIKE SHE CAN BE RELATED TO PHYLICIA…WOW !
LMAO @ “Dumb Dumb Diddy”
Diddy is no Sydney Poitier!
im @ work..video doesn’t show..are they turning the play into a box office release or dvd?
credit to Diddy for using his power & influence to put great Black actors/actresses on a major production. He’s not created the Lohans etc but props for being positive – hating ain’t got to be permanent Black people. Props to Sean Combs.
BREE…IT’S A MADE FOR TV MOVIE COMING IN FEB (I THINK 25TH) ON EITHER ABC OR CBS…I FORGET SO WE WON’T HAVE TO PAY TO SEE DUMB DUMB DIDDY..
oh snap*! I truly enjoy this cl*****ic play by Lorraine Hansberry “A Raisin in the Sun” (the first play written by a black woman to be produced on Broadway), so I just hope that they do it justice. I didn’t see the revival Broadway play that they did back in ‘04 (twas a broke student at the universitay), but sometimes it’s just best to know when to say no because as many have mentioned Diddy is no Sidney Poitier. I realize that his celebrity can garner more attention than a virtual no-name, but are there no other black male actors to play the part? bah.
-”the great debaters”- way better than i expected even went to the movies to support it, thus heads should do the same. Denzel has really given a picture of enlist words. Nice Mr. Director Washington. looking for more thunder :+)
The only person that seems out of place is Diddy and that’s just because I’m used to him dancing around like an idiot. But I have to admit, I actually want to see the movie. It’s an ensemble cast minus Diddy. I’m sure he did everything he had to do to at least seem like an A-list actor.
I agree with what has been posted about celebrities taking the spots of trained actors. I think it’s extremely pathetic. It’s important that we remember that we [the consumers] cast our votes with our dollars. That being said, if there is a film in which a “celebrity” has been cast instead of an actual actress/actor…don’t spend your money to see it. Low ticket sales will eventually get the attention of Hollywood.
A big COSIGN @ TruelyUrs
Sorry my friends but you CAN NOT top Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee or Louis Gossett Jr. nice try though
and why is diddly squat in a movie of this magnitude?? ho sit down no way you can be in a movie like this wtf???
Yeah have to finish adding my two cents, I’m tired of these so called celebrities taking good acting role away from accomplished actors/ss. these greats have honed their skills at places like Juliard and you have these hack rappers, singers coming in and taking roles from the professionals. hell naw I ain’t supporting that mess, they need to stay in their own industry and leave the acting to the professionals. tired of this mess diddy squat in a raisin in the sun? what next soldja bwoy in chaka zulu??
Sammy J. Parker said:
“I forgot to hate(lol): I cannot understand how the “celebrity” has displaced the “actor”…”
Agreed. I feel bad for all of those acting students out there who get p*****ed over for roles.
I DOUBT THIS WOULD TOP THE ORIGINAL…LOVE PHYLICIA RASHAD THOUGH
“Can it top the original?”
In a word…..No.
@ Nubian Goddez
that was funny.
I’m going to play devils advocate…..
We all know that no one is going to top the original cast of ‘Raisin in the Sun’ and honestly I don’t think that’s the intention.
Sean Combs did do one influencial thing and that’s bring this great story to Broadway, his efforts got Ms Phylicia Raashad a well deserved Tony, also he wasn’t bad in his part, a lot better than anyone thought he’d be. He actually took the position serious.
So it’s kind of refreshing to see television showing this great story. We barely see any of our works on national television anymore.
I hope it’s the beginning of more programs to come.
also, acting students are being wrecked over stupid a$$ reality shows. flavor of luv, who wants to marry a millionaire, i love new york, etc………along with the other reasons people here have elequently wrote about.
hence the writers strike…..
Love, love, love this play. But Sanaa Lathan, talented as she is, is too damn old to play Beneatha.
Felicia is a great actress, but now way can Diddy top Sidney. I will watch though because Raisin in the Sun is a powerful story, and a welcome change from “reality” tv.
I like how they’re using that NYPD BLue style shaky camera.
tricking your eye***** into thinking there is some action taking place
seems like a pretty thingy to watch!
I don’t think that is Sanaa Lathan. It’s Audra MacDonald. Another talented and beautiful black woman.
@ Kargento,
That’s who’s playing Ruth. Sanaa seems to be playing Beneatha
Oops just checked IMDB and it’s her. Go figure.
@ Kargento,
That’s who’s playing Ruth. Sanaa seems to be playing Beneatha.
double post
Nothing will ever top the original just because the original is one of the greatest movies ever made PERIOD. Aside from that, Diddy doesn’t seem to perform well unless he’s in front of a live audience- he doesn’t seem to know which way to look and he always looks like he’s getting ready to break into a dance. Still, I’m glad to see this play being made into a movie again because it’s a wonderful story and I love it!
It probably cannot top the original but I still want to check it out.
First: Why does this trailer make the play look like an episode of “The Wire?” It looks a little too modern for the material.
Second: I saw the revival on Broadway and I thought Diddy was ALRIGHT, until the pivotal scene in which Walter Lee breaks down; that was TERRIBLE. Phylicia Rashad rocked it, Audra MacDonald’s understudy was awful, Bill Nunn was good in his small part and Sanaa Lathan was embar*****ingly mediocre.
I’ll watch the movie, but I know that Audra and Phylicia are the only two people who are going to handle their business.
The original is five stars. How can a remake ever be better than that? cosign with TruelyUrs.
It looks good. Diddy looks like he’s been working on his skills..
I would see it.
this CANNOT top the original.
never.
& that is NOT Diddy’s part. that’s Denzel or Danny Glover,…someone els, but not Diddy.
Audra MacDonald (Grace from Disney’s Annie
) & Ms. Phylicia Rashad are really good to me.
i’ll watch it anyway. i don’t want ABC to Disney-Up the story b/c i read it & there’s no “happy” ending.
I like what I have seen so far!
I think that it looks good, it looks like it shouldn’t be on TV, but in theaters, but I know I can’t wait for it to come on.
damn, why all the HATE!!! These actors are in the MOVIE-MAKING BUSINESS – period. Sean Combs is gonna’ get young people who wouldnt have watch this cl*****ic – motivation to at least turn the tube off 106 and Park. Don’t get it twisted – Advertisers budgets depend on spending their ad dollars on programs thats gonna bring them the “eye *****” – having Sean Combs in this production brings “eye *****”…
I agree, there are TONS and TONS of young talent folks out there that could “act” Mr. Combs under a bus BUT they dont have his name SO its a mute point.
LETS NOT FORGET: MEDIA IS RUN BY ADVERTISING DOLLARS.
Phylicia and Audra all the damn way baby! I’ll watch anything those two phenomenal women are in…which explains my secret and shameful Private Practice viewing. Sanaa, not no much but I give her an “A” for effort. And Diddy…I had to hold back the bile just watching the trailer! Why anyone would let that mouth breathing, man w***** anywhere NEAR this cl*****ic is beyond me! And I don’t care how much money he threw at me I would scream NO, tear up the check and shove it down his throat with a sharp, pointed stick until his eyes rolled back in his head and ceased sucking up the precious air of honest, God fearing folk! [Pant, Heave, Wheeze!] Lord I have never disliked someone so much in my life! Okay maybe there was that one girl back in middle school that made it her life’s work to bully me every damn day but ya know what I’m saying…
Okay I’m done!
That is NOT Sanaa.. C’mon Bossip
oops didnt watch the whole trailer.. sorry bossip..
No need to watch the movie if U seen the original before(movie that is), plus this clip pretty much gave U the whole movie. It had all the key points!!!
Oh my god! I am so waiting on this. I dont think it can top the original but it still is worth watching.
@Keisha
Ummmm…many people have read the book and saw the original so they already know the key points.
Sean Combs keeps on trying to buy himself an acting career, but no one’s feeling it other than his own egotistical self. This man cannot sing, he cannot run marathons, and he cannot act, on film or stage. His reviews on Broadway in this production were luke warm– at best. He’s the male equivalent of Paris Hilton– untalented, but famous simply for being famous.
puffy shouldve been replaced, he cnt act worth a damn, im not impressed.
umm just in time for black history month.WOW
I saw her profile on lesbian dating site http://www.FemMate.com. I am wondering what kind of relationship she is looking for on that site! Does she really a Bisexual and want to date a gal online?
I will definitely watch this movie, to show support. It’s a black cast, with a black writer, with a positive message. That’s all that matters. I’ll critique it after I’ve viewed it. I will rather show as much support as I can than drag it through the dirt. Diddy isn’t the only one in this production. But, as a black actress and all around theater lover, I don’t like how all the roles seem to keep going to rappers and singers. But at the same time I’m not slandering it either. Hell, if it weren’t for somebody casting rappers in tv shows and movies, we wouldn’t have Will Smith and Queen Latifah(both Oscar nominated actors). I’m not going to compare this to the original, because the original was groundbreaking. It was something not seen during those times, Broadway and movie version. I will judge this as it’s own, based on Lorraine Hansberry’s vision. Seems like black people always have a way of trashing thing by our own people. Whether it be people, neighborhood, or whatever.
I’ll most def watch. Diddy needs work though. He’s not convincing enough.
I loved the orginal play, so I hope that can do it justice and not change too much from the original version. I agree with those they say trained actors do not get a chance b/c of celebrities, however what most ppl don’t know is that when big time celebrities have ideas for pictures a lot of times it’s hard to get funding from production companies unless they agree to play a part in the movie.
For exmaple- The movie that Denzel produced and I believed directed- I can’t remember the name but it was the black kid that was in the navy trying to find his mother- Anywayz even Denzel said that he wanted all no name actors in the film but in order to get financial backing he had to play a part in the film.
I saw a screening last summer. Raisin’s always a good story, and the Diddy version will hopefully introduce the Hansberry’s play to a new generation. BUT, sorry to report, it doesn’t touch the original. Only one who gets my props were Phylicia Rashaad and Audra McDonald. John Stamos as the racist neighbor just wasn’t believable.
@Delta Diva
Are you thinking about Antwone Fisher?
People are quick to say that black men are lazy and don’t work. Puffy’s life has been a living testament to shatter that myth. Yet we still complain. Damn.
Obviously he is being used for ratings. That translates into advertising dollars. With all the PhD’s on Bossip, you would think that someone would know that!
oh ok
No offence but is this embarr*****ing?
IM SO SORRY THAT IT CAN NOT TOP THE ORIGINAL ONE.BUT MAYBE IF THEY HAD TERRENCE HOWARD OR SOMEBODY ELSE.P.DIDDY IS NOT IT. ABC WHY.
Wow, this looks like it might be good. Sean Combs certainly ain’t the best actor in the world but if he’s willing to use his power and resources to revitalize this story, then I say more power to him! As someone noted earlier, maybe a new generation will discover this wonderful story (no reason to believe they’d dial up Sidney’s version).
I can’t wait to see this! I remember watching the original every black history month when i was growing up in Jamaica! I looooooooove Sanaa! thats my girl!
Umm let’s see… no Diddy can’t produce, rap what makes one think that he can carry out a role that Sidney Poitier and Ozzie Davis captured and made their own ***** sit yo ***** down!!!
P DIDDY IS AN IDIOT AND HE WILL TOTAL MESS UP THIS MOVIE
Yeah son CMCCARTHY you hit it on the head….this a mess…..P DUMMY strikes again
