Have you heard of singer Candice?

Singer Candice Interview

After catching the attention of Atlantic Records and Ne-Yo via YouTube, singer Candice is using her powerful vocals and raw lyrics to steam through the music scene.

Below this California songstress tells BOSSIP about her background, musical influences and new single “Lesbian.”

Tell us about your background.

I’m from Cali and I was born and raised in the church. I got into it [music] professionally when I got a deal from Atlantic based off doing YouTube videos. Then through Atlantic a mutual friend hooked me up with Ne-yo.

How long have you been doing music?

Professionally; four years.

What inspired you to pursue music professionally?

My dad inspired me, I grew up with both of my parents in my life and we have a musical background. All my uncles, my granny, everybody sings, my dad plays instruments. So he definitely inspires me.

What is it like working under Ne-Yo?

It’s a blessing, I wouldn’t want to have any other example before me. Even the way he carries himself, the way he writes, I’m picking up on everything.

Would you consider him an influence for your sound?

Sound? No. Writing? Yes. Attitude? Yes. My sound is a mixture, I like jazzy, neo-soul, R&B, more so than Hip-Hop and pop.

Tell us about your track “Lesbian.”

“Lesbian” is not what you think. It’s my single that’s out right now written by Ne-yo and basically it’s about a woman being in a heterosexual relationship and her n*** just keeps acting like a female. Every time they argue he acts like a b**** basically. You feel like you’re with a lesbian, like you’re a lesbian.

Do you draw inspiration from your own personal life?

Yes, I pride myself on keeping it real. No fake, no bulls***. A lot of things I talk about are 100% facts.

Who would you like to work with in the future?

I would like to work with Beyonce in the future, she’s amazing. I wanna to work with the old heads; Snoop, Dre, people like that.

What do you want people to know about you as an artist?

I want people to know that it’s okay to be yourself. I’m coming out, my music isn’t really PG and I’m not really trying to be a role model. I want to be an example to girls who want to be themselves. It’s okay if you don’t smoke, it’s okay if you’re the girl who don’t drink, it’s okay if you are. I just want to be relatable and touchable.
