Thats why the social construct of “race” is void and null. It [race] makes no sense whatsoever. A person can be Jewish and Iraqi at the same time and that has nothing to do with religion or skin color.

Identity in itself is so complex that “race” or skin color cannot define that identity. There is more to identity than saying “i’m white” or “i’m black”

And btw, a Jew who believes Jesus Christ is the Messiah is called a Messianic Jew. Their Jewish identity is not obliterated.

See, the problem was that I expected them to take Deadpool’s role DIRECTLY from the comics and incorporate it into the film…instead, there were a few changes that didn’t add up. For instance, in the comics, Deadpool was left horrible disfigured and insane from the procedure…NOT because William Stryker wanted to shut him up. And then, they decapitated him at the end! WTF???? So, how is Deadpool supposed to play any role in the future films (if there are going to be more in the future)…? And I don’t want to hear anything about him putting his head back on and regenerating, cause then it becomes super cheesy and illogical.

There is and always has been a distinction between Jewish people and “White” people. Saying she’s half jewish identifies part of her heritage and culture.

If we’re going to lump people into “white” then often times Arabic people are considered white. I have relatives who are half Middle Eastern (Iraqi to be exact…or Persian or whatever you want to categorize them as…) Further even under these standards you put on people Indians would be considered white by many…although they are Asian by continent and culture.

Every dang body don’t want to be white. Judaism is a religion. Jewish is an ethnicity of people.

It seems as if being black is a curse and if I’m cursed, then you are cursed too because you have one drop. That makes no sense to me.

I have two sisters, half african american and half ethiopian (we have the same mother but different dads) They cherish their Habesha heritage, but people don’t allow them to be Ethiopian because they don’t speak Amharic or Tigrinya and they haven’t been to Addis. But they have taught their kids to be proud Ethiopians and I love them for that, even though black people say they are “regular black”. I think nobody is “regular” anything. Even African americans. We all have roots, and there is nothing wrong with loving and cherishing those roots.

I sooooooooooooo agree with you. and it’s true, blacks and Jews DID get along more during the civil rights movements. You learn so much in life from being around different people, backgrounds, cultures, etc. I know because I didn’t see my ignorance until I attended a predominatley white university and would hear opinions about black people from white classmates. I gave my wife the Bronx tale test and she past… That’s why she’s my wife and not some chick I hit up… Till this day (13 years later) whenever we get is the car I open the passenger door for her and she reaches over and opens mine’s. She also has no problem picking up the check or spending money on me. Sometimes when I hear stories from my friends about other women I thank the lord I found a GREAT ONE.

I couldn’t help , but notice that there was a lot of debate earlier concerning whether being Jewish is a religion or an ethnicity. This subject bothered me because I really didn’t know the truth so I did some extensive research. According to all of the information that I’ve been able to dig up, Jewish people or Jews are an ethnic make-up of people with Hebrew and Israelite descent. It was said that Judaism would be their actual religion. I don’t know if this means anything or not, but there was a lot of controversy concerning the topic so I decided to go and find out. With this being the case, I don’t think they would identify themselves as just white people. Middle Easterns never have identified themselves as white. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. I just read a lot of the comments about this issue.

(1) Book a hotel on or real close to “Canal Street”…
- EVERYTHING is within walking distance so you don’t need a car cause you won’t use it…
- The only time you’ll need a car is to get to and from the airport and to bypass that just book a shuttle or grab a taxi…

(2) Hmmm… I’ve stayed at the Ritz Carlton, Sheraton and Marriott all on Canal Street…
*I would suggest booking a hotel in that vicinity because everything is around that area (restaurants, casino, stores, Bourbon Street)
- The Sheraton is cool but it has a huge open bar thingy downstairs and a lot of people hang out there and it takes A LONG time to check in…
- The Marriott was cool, no complaints and they finished renovating it last year…
- The Ritz, too expensive and really nice but Stars be chillin’ there = Regina King, Baby (Lil’ Waynes lover/boyfriend), etc…

DEFINITELY go to a website like citysearch.com to read reviews on peoples opinions of the hotels…

*I pick based on price to keep it 100 with you, but at the same time I HAVE standards… I’m too old for b.s hotels – when I’m on vacation I need for it to feel like a vacation, etc…

(3) The multi-day pass = WAIT!!! Just wait and see who they add to the Performance List on the various days… While I make fun of Beyonce for being overexposed she puts on a really good show… The funny thing is EVERYBODY does their concert show there and so you’re not shortchanged when they come to your town later on during the year…

Once the film is over, and they’ve gotten some celebrity status because of it, they are “suddenly” mixed or half black. I say take your scandalous selves to your “otherside” and try out for those roles. Leave the Black female roles to Black actresses!

SMH why do *we* accept the dominant discourse on race? There is no such thing as race. A bunch of rich people got together and decided that based on some perceived physical similarities that they would put together a social group, which would be inferior. Now we are all thinking racially! We should not be biologically determinist. But since we are, we are suffering the effects of race — social inequalities and hate-mongering. If you recall Alicia Keyes is half-Jewish and half-Black, if you will. But that is just biologically. Sista’ girl is black just like Obama is black, with a white mother. We need to drop this race mess and focus on other things.

Lauren should have just said she is half black and half white. My nephew is Jewish because his mother comes from a fully Jewish family. The “Jewishness” is passed down from the mother. Women keep it going not the men. Lauren’s father is white, therefore I will assume that he is the Jewish one. Since he didn’t marry a Jewish woman, none of his children will be considered Jewish. That’s just the way it is. Lauren is not half Jewish, there is no such thing as half Jewish. You either are or you aren’t. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t practise it either so again her statement is misleading.

5. What are the predominate images in the media, supposedly setting the standard for beauty and talent?

What is there other than our families happiness, education, health care, and a fair shake at business enterprise. What do YOU suggest “we” focus on?
