Well it’s obvious that all BET does is jack ideas from MTV and add black faces. Now they’re bitting VH1′s Best Week Ever Format. It’s sad. It really seems as though BET has no real creative writers.

It’s a funny show, but they need to SQUASH all of that vulgar language. We as black folks don’t ALWAYS have to be sooooooooooo lewd to be funny. I hate to see little kids cussin’ that like when it ain’t necessary. Blacks shouldn’t always have to be seen as CUSSIN’, CONFRONTATIONAL, ANGRY, or STUPID. We can express our creativity in the same manner without all the negative stuff. And if you’re the type of person who’s honest with yourself atleast half of the time ———— You’ll admit that WE are soooooooooooo funny without it AND everybody wants to be just like us (except for the bad credit at times —– even if they don’t want to admit).

Aaron McGruder is a comedic genius!! The boondocks is sooo funny. I need the dvd set. He says the things that people think, whethere its good or bad. All I know is that his cartoon is truthful and funny all at the same time.

BET lost it’s identity as soon as johnson sold the company, there’s not a show on BET that I’d watch, 50 was right about them, how do you block out the word “kill” in a video on 106 & park, then show american gangster and the wire after that?

But then when Bet does try to be creative, they come up with shows like the Ultimate Hustler, which is a rip off of making of the bad/apprentice if you ask me? That show was one of the worst shows that BET ever let hit the air. What was the significance of it? And what ever happened to the winner?

Yo! MTV Raps was first, actually. It premiered in August, 1988. Rap City didn’t debut ’til sometime the next year. I remember this because, at the time, I thought it was a travesty. In fact, I still do.

lol yeah I got this clip a few daya ago & suddenly POOF it was gone lol. I knew it wasn’t going to last. Its simply telling the truth. Anyway, the Boondocks is one of the funniest & truest shows on television. Whether we want to realise it or not THAT is how our children talk because we don’t teach them that its not appropriate anymore. But IMO the Boondocks is a social commentary on how other races perceive us to be. That is how they think that black people act, live, speak, & eat. Sad part about it is, in many cases the show is doing nothing but speaking the truth & preaching to the choir!!

Why didn’t they show it? What is the big deal? He just stated what everyone already thinks, even teens know that BET is garbage

Actually, Yo MTV raps came out a year prior to Rap City. I liked that Rap City included undergroud rappers as well as main stream. BET used to have class. I can remember Video Soul and several other well done programs.

It didn’t make it because Cartoon Netwrok is owned by Viacom that owns MTV, BET, VH1, Nickelodeon, etc. thats why???

But you can’t deny the truth…I was wondering what happended last week.

Viacom doesn’t own Carton Network. Timer warner does so thats not the reason!

This man ISN’T a visionary by no means… He is a Business man and a Serious One at that… He’s about the Almighty Buck, In HIS mind if it doesn’t make Money it doesn’t Make Good Business Sense… He was still there when the programming started going down and even when he sold it he was still on the board making decisions, Most of those having to do with WHICH blacks to hire on the executive staff and the structure of the programming in general.

He had alot to do with the News format being eliminated as well as Ed Gordan being let go and BET never paid market rate for their talent… THAT’S why ALL of them never stayed at BET !!!

But THAT’S water-under-the-bridge like @tlatrice stated in the first post… THOSE are the actions that are Required-n-Necessary if you want a Serious change to be made at BET

its not even accurate. MTV bights from BET too. I commend BET for putting hiphop and rnb on TV. I know mtv would never put Baldwin Hills on. The only black ppl on Mtv r ghetto trash or on Run House. And MTV only started to put black ppl and black music on after they saw the success BET was getting.

Black ppl need to stick up for YOUR network and not some “culture vultures” like MTV.

And we do have Tv One for the record. We just don’t have on that has original sitcoms, dramas and soaps like our African counterparts.

The real question if someone was to create another black network-who would it be aimed at? Kids with no money or us with money?

Would we watch a network with black versions (you know they will be called that) of-

NYPD Blue, 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars. Would there be support for a sitcom about a single father raising a son (something that has been absent since Ben Sisko on Deep Space 9)?I love New York without New York instead an educated sister that wants help in getting a man.

We can rant about how bad BET is, however we can stop it when we turn it off and ban our kids from watching. I know you folks got parental blocks on tvs. And just don’t do it, explain to the kids why you are doing it.

BET is owned by the same company that owns VH1, MTV, and the Country Music Cmannel. If you watch them all you’ll see that the two niche channels (BET and CMC) have shows rehased from MTV and VH1(ie. Trick My Truck, College Hills, etc). Ironically, BET Jams is actually a good station. Far better than its parent station.

I think the two niches get no love because most of the money is coming from Flava of Love, I love New York, The Hills, and Sweet Sixteen and the crazy bi chick Tequlia.

I am also very disappointed Hudlin couldn’t do more with BET. He seemed so promising. Ironically, he pulled from being producer or something on the Boondocks because he say it was too vuglar. Yet, he has failed to do anything better on BET.

McGruder has had beef with BET for a while.

I knew it was only a matter of time before he worked his issues with them into an episode, so I knew BET would be ready for him. I don’t know what they’re so offended over. They should have just thought of the episode as reality TV. It is, isn’t it?

I think that all of those shows are possible successes. The only thing I find is that each show needs to have the ablity to capture all black audiences, from the highly educated, to the less educated, from the young, to the old….and so on. So the shows have to seem realistic to everyone, and they can’t be too hood, or to too bougie……too hip-hop influenced, or too wannabe white-America….at least not when they’re starting out. But there are so many great ideas for good black programming. What pisses me off about BET is they don’t even try….they just stick with the same old low-budget formula. The network doesn’t even want to attempt to spend money to make money….SMH

I have white and Latina friends who enjoy “black” music, television, adn movies….so I one day, just to get an idea, I decided to ask them it they watch BET. They all said that they did not. They don’t even know whare the channel falls on they’re cable/direct TV?!?! Thank God!!!!

I haven’t watched BET is such a long time. But Boondocks, I DVR that sucker everytime. I may have to follow imrightdammit’s advice and send an email to BET stating my disappointment in their programming.

Don’t say nuthin bad about Hell Date! that’s my favorite show! and actually MTV is biting off that one now. Meet the Faith is good too. Yes some of the stuff is crap but you can actually find some good stuff too. Keyshia Cole’s show was great!
