Unemployment Rate Drops To 5.6 Percent For US, Remains At 10.4 Percent For Blacks

Jobs numbers released this morning show that the unemployment rate in the US has dropped from 5.8 percent to 5.6 percent. This is the lowest unemployment rate since June 2008, before the big meltdown. Professional services, construction and healthcare led the way on industries that hired last month. The country added 252,000 jobs last month, higher than the anticipated 240,000. However, it’s not all good news.

Queen Latifah To Play Blues Legend Bessie Smith In HBO Film

Queen Latifah has been tapped to play the lead role in an upcoming HBO film focusing on the life of Blues legend, Bessie Smith. With the working title of Bessie, the film is based on Smith’s rise in music and on the biography which shares the name with movie. According to Deadline, this isn’t the first time Queen Latifah has been pegged for the Bessie Smith role.
