Man Involved In Police Chase Stops To Drop Off Daughter

At least he’s not a deadbeat daddy

Via KCRG reports:

A driver being pursued by police caused an accident on Interstate 380 on Friday morning, when his vehicle collided with a sports-utility vehicle.

But at least he dropped his teenage daughter off at school before it happened.

According to a Cedar Rapids police media release, at roughly 10:05 a.m. a police officer spotted the driver with an equipment violation near the area of 16th Avenue and 20th Street SW and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, allegedly later identified as Ernest Toby Gaston, 35, had his teenage daughter in the vehicle when the police pursuit began. With the officer in pursuit, Gaston stopped near Jefferson High School and let his daughter out of the vehicle before continuing to elude police.

The chase then continued to Wilson Avenue and then to Interstate 380 northbound. As Gaston was traveling north on Interstate 380 near Diagonal Drive, he rear-ended an SUV. Police officers first checked that the driver of the SUV was not injured, according to the release, and then continued to try to elude the police.

Gaston was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to the release.

Police say Gaston is being charged with Attempting to Elude, Child Endangerment, and numerous other traffic violations

SMH!!!!!
