I am an educated black woman, I didn’t go to Stanford; however, I am educated none the less. What makes people think that an education will give you morals? Bird, she was a real estate agent before she married Babyface. There was an interview in Ebony, once, that talked about how Tracey and Babyface hooked up . . . Supposedly, her mother kept pushing her, but she wasn’t interested. I really doubt that . . . But I do live in the Bay Area, went to school here, and know people who knew Tracey at Stanford. By the way, the fact that she graduated from Stanford also is in that Ebony article.

Tracy and Babyface met on the set of one of his videos which she was in. The real estate angle is news to me.

The fact is I never had an opinion about Tracy one way or the other until she accepted Mel B’s extremely sloppy seconds and made excuses for Eddie’s actions surrounding his youngest child. I was also amazed beyond belief to see her saying “like” a million times like a teenager in that same article that she stuck up for Eddie. That is when I determined she was an airhead dimwit and the same reason you will never convince me she is a college grad. Other than that I thought she was a pretty lucky video ho and I wasn’t mad at her for it.

Even now I have no doubt that the only reason she is not with Eddie is because he dumped her. She was in awe of him and even stated that Eddie and Nicole ran in better circles than her and Babyface. Please read that Essence interview with her and you will see what I mean.

In my opinion, just because one is more critically acclaimed than the other it doesn’t follow that one is better or smarter or more successful. In my opinion, success is not measured by what you have but what you share.

But the fact still remains, that Tracey can marry a success, thus furthering her career and ambitions in becoming a successful multi media producer, while Shonda, albeit a talented writer, had to work extra hard to attain her success.

You hit the nail on the head. Some people have to work harder and smarter than others to get where and what they want because the odds are stacked against them. Some people have the will, thick skin and fortitude to do just that; kudos to them.

The “industry” and access to it is not simply driven by talent or looks alone. Other factors include connections, personality, the “it” factor and other intangibles. Stars and star makers are only as big and memorable as their last big hit, release or production.

It may not be right. It may not be fair but c’est la vie.

I meant no such thing. You’re projecting…And also you’re mistaking Shonda’s commercial success with artistic success. Just because Grey’s Anatomy is a ratings success, doesn’t mean that it’s high art…And as i stated earlier, the entertainment industry has a “WHO YOU KNOW” symbiotic component. 99% of the time, one can’t just walk through the door to pitch a project. Where would Kimora be without her (then) husbands’ money and backing to get Phat Pharm/Baby Phat off the ground? Tyra, Cindy, Heidi were super models first. Their looks got them through the door, thus giving them access to certain advantages and resources that the average aspiring entrepreneur doesn’t have. And as far as labeling Tracy’s work as mediocre, well that’s a matter of opinion. I personally enjoyed Hav’ Plenty and Soul Food the movie and the subsequent Showtime series, which i might add, during its’ first four seasons, was Showtime’s top rated program. You can’t begrudge a person for marrying a successful person and not taking advantage of some of the perks that comes along with it.

How am i making excuses for Tracey’s work, that you perceive to be mediocre? Me defending her and her art should be self-explanatory on how i feel about her work…And how is it mediocre? Just because her endeavors thus far hasn’t garnered the ratings and monetary returns of Gray’s Anatomy, doesn’t take away from its’ artistic merits. Are you equating ratings and profits with artistic integrity? American Idol drawfs G. A. in ratings and profits. Does that mean that it’s high art? 20 something years ago, The Dukes of Hazards was the top rated show in america. Was that high art?

Kara don’t get it twisted. Gray’s Anatomy is not high art. It’s nothing more than a regurgitated version of E.R., which in turn was a regurgitated version of St. Elsewhere. And as far as awards go, well we all know that, that’s political and subjective…Afterall C.S.I garners a lot of award nominations also, and that show creatively is as bland as vanilla.

Kara, when did i say that Kornikova was a better player than Sharapova? I said the complete opposite…And yes, you are right, Maria was less distracted than Anna, but so what? Are you equating Anna with Tracey? Tracey, while married to Kenneth Edmonds got up every morning to get her music label, Yab Yum off the ground. Granted, the artist she signed for the most part were considered outside of the cookie-cutter norm, with the exception of Jon B., so i think that you’re being a little harsh on her. From what i see, she’s trying to be more than just “ARM CANDY” and leech off someone like your garden variety bimbo/gold-digger.

As a woman, you should be able to appreciate and empathise with her predicament as not only being extremely beautiful, but trying to be taken serious as a women in a male dominated business environment.

I see some of these women criticizing her for staying the course while Eddie was going through that drama with Mel B., but if you look at it objectively, that had nothing to do with her and Eddie’s situation. Now that may seem cold and callous, but it’s a cold and callous world, and ultimately, she seems like the type of person who lives by the rule: SERVE NO MASTER, BUT YOUR OWN AMBITION…And Kara, these are the type of people that succeed in the long run. Hense Condoleeza Rice. She makes hard unpopular decisions everyday and in all probability, will be vilified in the history books…But that’s the price you pay when you follow your own ambitions. So in closing, that’s why Tracey should be admired. Afterall, she’s a woman in a mans world trying to make her way using the resources at her disposal: BEAUTY, BRAINS AND HER EX’s DIVORCE SETTLEMENT.

@BlackWomenJustDontListen – I can confirm Tracey went to Stanford. Saw her on campus many days, and she went to our reunion in October.

Wow. Well, I believe that Tracey has been trying to do the right things, in the right way, but she is in a very difficult industry.

People hate on her because she is quite pretty and she has been able to get with these guys and come up much more easily than others who may be “more talented.”

I think she was, in the way she knows how, trying to do what white women do every day, which is marry well and solidify her power through her choice of mate.

I think she crapped out on this one, though, because she made a poor choice and what people are vilifying her for is a lack of common sense and letting herself stay with someone who revealed his low character the way Eddie did in the matter of Mel B and Angel.

Her doing that is the the issue. It’s not whether she’s less successful than others or more deserving in her own right of acknowledgement. We’re looking at her character and judgment and she’s coming up short. Because she is pretty and has been able to ride to some degree on her looks, and isn’t some briliant success, people are being mercilously hard on her right now and she is taking some major heat.

She could use a good publicist, and a new “mentor.”

Probably will be somebody white this time. She needs to reinvent herself.

tracy wouldn’t sign the the pre-nup, that’s the bottom line, anyone with any common sense knows that eddie writes, produces & stars in his own movies! do you have any idea how much money he’s worth, I bet his mother does, he’s pratically a billionaire. tracy has money but not like eddie does no prenup-no marraige!
