I am a little, maybe a lot, disgusted by him. How in the world can he tell me that as a college student I have no say in the upcoming election and the state of my future? That is utterly ridiculous. Not taking anything away from the civil rights movement and the path that others have made for us, we have every right to parti*****te in this so-called democracy. Granted, our youth are not the poster children for educational achievement, but some are. This is not to dismiss the issues that are prevalent in the Black community. Not all of the “new generation” is part of this hip-hop culture. Furthermore, not everyone who is black adheres to these “values”. Not everyone goes to church and if we dont, so what. This does not mean that there is no belief of a higher power. The absence of religion does not equate to immorlity. There are plenty of folks with one foot in the church and the other in the crack house.

Last time I checked music didn’t put anyone in jail. Last time I checked drugs, guns, and violence is nothing new to this country. Last time I check the tv, radio, and magazines were not responsible for the raise of a child. Last tiime I check the people who were *****ing and made the child were responsiblity for it and them alone. He held the elevator door open for me. I did not know who he was then but I remember thinking that he seemed like such a nice man and a great father. His daughter seemed to adore him. I got such a good vibe from him. A few months later I saw him on Oprah. Right away I remembered who he was and much later he ran for president. Obama is not a misfit. I hope that someone that lives close to that preachers church goes in there and hits that fool in the mouth with a bat.

I also agree parents should be more responsible on what thier children hear and see, but also believe the hip hop industry can take some responsiblitly in thier role concerning the minds of sitll formative children. Regardless if they like or not , they are considered role models to the young, and it does make an effect on “how ” the choices they made.

The funny thing is that he keeps focusing on the supposed “Young People” and “Hip-Hop generation, which actually includes the late Boomers and early X’ers. Not the Y’s that are voting now and wearing the t-shirts. So in reality he’s mad at the children his generation raised. His sons and daughters, who for many reasons got caught up in the drugs, alcohol, and poverty cycles that they then destined to their own children. So the question he needs to be asking is, “Where did I go wrong?” If he is so convinced that no new age Black person is doing anything right, or as he defines it “Black,” he needs to look closer at himself and the decisions his contemporaries made.
