MLK Day

If Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were alive today, he would be expecting his first grandchild:
Martin Luther King III, the eldest son of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., announced that he has married longtime girlfriend Arndrea Waters and that the couple are expecting a baby daughter. “This is great news that a grandchild of Martin Luther King is coming into the world. Our legacy continues.”
King III married Waters shortly after his mother’s passing, but the couple decided to keep the marriage private until now. King III is the first of Martin Luther King Jr.’s four children to get married, and he will be the first sibling to have a child.

kellz, they said the mama didn’t hide the fact that she didn’t want ANY of them to ever get married – selfish is one of the words that comes to light – they really respected her/afraid, whatever, but they didn’t do it .. i don’t know if she just wanted them to herself, if she was protecting them from the cheating drama she had to go through with their daddy or if she just wanted the legacy to end there [some say all] but whatever it was, as soon as she p*****ed away, he secretaly married his girlfriend and now this blessing – she just didn’t like them with anyone and it’s very strange but at least he’s brave enough to defile her now.
WOW..I didn’t realize that MKL III is fifty.

Congrats! I’m happy a King grandbaby is on the way. But I’m definitely suspicious of this marriage. Seems like with such a recognizabe name that some county worker would have noticed the marriage certificate being filed.

I think it’s really random that out of four kids, only one is going to have a child, and that’s at the age of 50. The oldest daughter is dead, and the youngest daughter is in her late 50s, so she won’t pop out any babies anytime soon.
I guess my question is, which one of these four kids is gay? I know one of them has to be. It’s way too ironic.

She was referring to Marty King, a white Atlantan who is also names MLK, Jr. He was born when MLK was a child, so it’s a coincidence.
but how did NONE of them get married till now? i understand mama must have put the guilt trip and all but come on! are they gay? [except baby daddy] did she threaten them? come on, i was scared and respected my parents when i was young but when i needed to get married at a very young age, i just left and did it! she would have gotten over it – there must be more to this .. i just can’t put my finger on it

I am curious about why they haven’t had offspring as well. When I was visiting the King Center a few years ago, one of the guides told me that Dr. King has a granddaughter that was born out of wedlock. The family wanted to keep the information quiet so the child could live a normal life.
It must be really hard to be the immediate family of some one like Dr. King. I wish these folks every happiness and even more privacy.

MLK Jr. needs to drop a few if he wants to be around to see his baby grow up. High blood pressure, diabetes, stroke affects us way too much!
There is a Malcolm X and maybe a Marcus Garvey day. Malcolm’s is May 25 or 27. It’s not a state holiday, it’s one of those days that few people observe.

Maybe that was for safety. Remember we have sick people that want ot be famous by any means. Even if that meant killing the grandchild of MLK.
Think of how much pressure those kids are under being in his shadow. To be like him and lead a new generation in Civil Rights movement (of course most of us wouldn’t follow MLK nowaday unless it’s for easy money).
It’s not safety. It’s not due to press. I mean, those are not legitimate reasons to NOT have kids, when you’re not even really a celebrity. Martin Luther King Jr. was gunned down, not his children. And while stalkers exist, that’s not a fame thing.
While everyone does not want to have kids, 4 kids that didn’t want to have kids from the same family is very odd.
When ANYONE can command the English language as MLK did, please mention that person on this site. Please! i have years to wait, hopefully. i know it will take time, but i will keep checking.

Actually, the youngest daughter is in her late 40’s. And I totally believe that their mother didn’t want them to get married or have children. Bossip copped this story from ajc.com and there you can also find a picture of the wife.

I always did find it kind of odd that none of his children were married or had any kids. I’m not saying that it anything wrong with being single without kids, but what’s the chance of that happening amongst 4 people?
@Mojola, no problem – we all can get the jist of your question – while it is very disappointing that others aren’t remembered, just as noteworthy as he was, you have to understand that this is merely an appeasement for the murder the government committed against him – and as DM previously said “the general American public does not celebrate revolutionaries.” – I would think that February would be dedicated to ALL that stood for justice but only after much protest did they even allow him – it’s all bullshyt – and everyone that had off was watching Jerry or Maury and not celebrating it with any sort of rememberence or teaching the younger children about his and their importance – what can you do .. l’homme blanc a son propre dieu à réponse jour à, jusque-là, nous car les noirs continueront à surmonter
