HBO Launches Diverse Writing Fellowship For Emerging Writer

Yesterday, HBO announced their HBOAccess Writing Fellowship that will seek out diverse emerging writers. The application process begins March 4 and those who are chosen to become participants will attend a week of master classes at HBO’s Santa Monica campus. The classes will focus on character and story development, pitching ideas and projects, securing agents and networking. After that week is completed, writers will have an eight-month writing phase.

Women who are more than qualified are giving up on the tech industry, frustrated with the slow pace of change in the male-dominated workplace culture of Silicon Valley. All the majors–Google, Facebook, Apple–admit that men outnumbered women 4 to 1 or more in their companies. There is a growing need for women and minorities in the industry. There will be lots of jobs to fill in the next decade.
