That’s tragic.

Everyone needs to remember that everything that you do on your cellphone or computer is not private. It’s like sending a postcard through the mail; everyone can read it, so beware.

Things that you do at age 16 might not be viewed as so funny when you are 25, especially to your employers or your future spouse.

This is a tragady and my heart goes out to her family but this is what happens in todays society where we coddle our children too much. I was reading last week where one Arizona school has outlawed dodge ball and any physical touching between students. They can’t even give high fives or tag each other when playing tag. You have to step on their shadow.
In my opinion children today are soft and curl up in a ball at the first sign of adversity or in this sad case commit suicide. I teach my daughter that not everybody is going to like you and that life will beat you down if you let it. I think a little adversity is good for children. Let them get get their hearts broke, let them scrap their kness and get into a little trouble. It will prepare them for the future. It’s a good thing to protect our children from some things because they are not ready but we cannot protect them from life.

This does not mean that had the girl faced a little adversity earlier she would not have given up. I don’t know her upbringing. But I too have noticed a rise in teen suicides and I think that this is tied into that.

this girl wasn’t able to cope with her actions like your little friends in high school. She committed suicide after attempting to deal with what she had done. Its unfortunate she didn’t have an opportunity to move out the city, or at the least, change schools. Have a heart, and let her rest in peace.

This girl was raised in a traditional home with traditional values, therfore she was capable of feeling shame and regret. What a tragedy for her to take her own life.

If she were a girl of lesser values and didn’t know any better the exposure of the photos wouldn’t have affected her this deeply.

If she were a girl of lesser values and didn’t know better she would be proud of the photos and probably have added a few baby daddies to the mix.

The good die young and this is sad because this girl was worth defending and saving.

The bad are the lowlife proud w*****s and baby mamas on Maury Povich who unfortunately live forever- off welfare.

That real talk!!!! Don’t these girls talk to their mothers???? Cuz I did and that is exactly what my mother used to tell me! Teens don’t have a mature sense of reason and rationale. Their interpretations of what is going on in the media are sometimes….often times very distorted.

Thank GOD I didn’t do any of the things I thought about doing @ a young age. But I had my momma and my big sister to tell me “If you still want to do that when you get to 21, by all means do it, but at least give yourself some time to think about it!

And I thought about it and at 29 I STILL haven’t done 1/3 of the things I thought were “cute @ 16 & 17.

Not to be mean, but why are white people so weak minded? Why does public opinion matter so much to them?? They so quicker to commit suicide over the stupidist things, USUALLY caused by THEMSELVES!!!

Do they forget they are gonna go off to college and have it all brushed under the rug as if it never happened??

I know blacks and people of other races who have committed suicide (I still work in the psych wards from time to time)…but usually after a long battle with mental illness an or drug addiction, NOT because they did something stupid to humiliate themselves and have to pay the consequences????

Aren’t they taught like I/most of us (people of color) were taught that “What doesn’t kill you, can only make you stronger”??? SMDH and RIP!!!

Why is it simply accepted that guys can do whatever the hell they want and girls are the ones who always need to be careful?He should bare some responsibility for her death, she sent those pictures to him when she thought she was in a relationship with a guy that she could trust, and he broke that trust. Something should be done, he was the perpetrator in this.

I watched an interview a few months ago on MSNBC with the mother of Jessica Logan, and the photo of her daughter was not only sent to students at Jessica’s school, but to three other schools as well. She endured countless taunts and other har*****ment daily and was labeled a “wh*re.”

I recall the day when a boy could ruin a girl’s reputation by saying he had slept with her, or rumors could spread about various students, and I think technology has exacerbated the spread of these damaging exchanges. Kids should be taught that everything that is transmitted through a phone, e-mail, etc., can be sent to other parties — be it photos, angry/incriminating texts, etc., and the result can be devastating. What’s in the cybersphere stays in the cybersphere.

I read an article this morning about a site — peoplesdirt.com — that targets teens and allows them to post gossip about their cl*****mates, and some of the posts include racist/anti-gay slurs and even death threats. In this age of technology, there has to be a way to still maintain some level of civility and decorum and to protect kids from being attacked to the point that they would consider taking a tragic step like Jessica.

They don’t understand that the consequences of nude photos, sex tapes and promiscuous behavior are completely different in the real world as opposed to Hollyweird. These kids are putting too much of their business out there and are getting burned for it. I’ve been saying this for a while and weak-minded people (the majority of today’s society) just think I am mean and insensitive until their children run into situations they can’t handle and what is sad, their parents are NO *****IN HELP EITHER!!!!

Not that I am perfect or parenting comes with a handbook, or even that I don’t feel the need to protect my children, but I teach them to be LEADERS and not FOLLOWERS. IT MUCH EASIER TO BE A FOLLOWER THAN IT IS TO BE A LEADER!!!

For instance, I learned, growing up with white people from very affluent families that their parents DO NOT pay for their children to go to college, it’s everyone else breaking their back so that THEY THEMSELVES can use their children to brag about. Wealthy white people are a very different breed. A secret society almost that keep it going by making others believe things are a certain so they can look down and laugh while the less fortune stay less fortunate. It’s a game..

I work with a nurse (mousey little white lady) that has made a 6 figure salary for the past 20 of her 31 years doing this. SHE IS BROKE AND DESPERATE!!

She is working herself down to the BONE and she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown everyday!!! She lost her house due to putting 1 of her 2 daughters through school @ USF(University of San Fran) when we live in the San Fernando Valley and are surrounded by MANY,MANY cheaper options i.e. UCLA or one of the Cal-States.

I’m like if she didn’t have the grades to get herself at LEAST a partial scholarship, why did you do it?? You OBVIOUSLY couldn’t afford it! She works 3 shifts @ work and she is pushing 60 SMDH!!!!

She told me she keep her kids in Catholic school their entire lives against her families’ advice (their father died when they were 5 and 11) because she “would have felt bad making the money she does sending them to public school” although we live in a very affluent area of LA with very good schools that get kids into even better colleges citywide, statewide AND nationwide!

She was so worried about what “The Jones” thought that she didn’t use good judgement and now lives in an apartment that she can’t even afford to move out of! She told me that it would take at least $10,000 to relocate to a more affordable! Her transmission finally went out on her little 2001 Nissan Sentra (yes….a Sentra poor thing) and she doesn’t even have any savings to get it fixed SMDH!!!

How did the kids turn out. Spoiled and UNGRATEFUL!!! THey get angry at her for working from 6 am to midnight and tell her things like “You don’t love us cuz your never home” ***** YOU ARE 27 LMAO!!!! Now, the same daughter @ 27 is just another fat white chick who JUST moved 2 months ago with her white washed black boyfriend.

They have a BEAUTIFUL black baby-girl with crystal blue eyes and curly blond hair (not that that is the only way a black baby is beautiful, just saying). Her stupid boyfriend/fiancee (who is full black, raised by a wana be white, black mom) can’t understand why he got fired from the Catholic school he worked at making a good salary when he got her knocked up.

They had a hard time finding an apartment too because Woodland Hills is still pretty racist.

The daughter she put through school @ USF is now an Administrative *****istant (secretary) at a job that is downsizing by the day…just waiting for her pink slip. She’s about to move back home with mom in her little 2 bedroom apt after all of her sacrifice.

I payed my way through school the first time and I GREATLY appreciate it. I am in a better financial situation than all of the above mentioned people, with no handouts and was sold no delusions by my mother. IF you want it, you must work hard for it.

Parents nowadays try to make things so easy for their kids that when adversity happens these kids can’t deal with it or they deal with it innappropriately, for example shooting up their schools. I remember when I was in fourth grade these two boys used to pick on me for no reason. I would go home crying to my mom and she told me “If you don’t stand up for yourself no one else will”. I truly feel bad for this poor girl, but you have to have a thick skin in life.

While I agree that kids should be taught to let certain things roll off them, we cannot ignore the huge influence technology has played in the pressures that today’s teens now have. It’s not enough that someone can spread a rumor about you — now it can be posted on numerous sites, along with your photo and other personal information. Or you can be a victim of cyber-bullying when people send you vicious e-mails, break into your online accounts, etc. I think we have to acknowledge that the stakes are higher nowadays when it comes to the emotional stability of young people. I experienced some teasing in school, too, but I can’t imagine also having to go home and face similar har*****ment via phone, text, e-mail, etc. That’s a lot for the healthiest, most stable person to deal with, and it does take its toll.

I also think that there are kids who are raising themselves — their parents may buy them “things,” but as far as being a real support for their children, I believe that aspect is lacking in some households.

Not only do we need to teach kids how to protect themselves from STDs and pregnancy, we need to let them know the ramifications of technology. Maybe we need to have more PTAs discussing this new issue as well to get the parents more involved and knowledgeable about what’s going on with today’s kids.

2 many people are underestimating the consequences of sex and sexual activities. Most people view sex as a b***** and meaningless act and no one are teaching our children the REALITY OF IT. I hope that some of you guys aren’t parents because if so, judging by some of these comments, I fear what values, lessons and morals you are teaching your children! Some of you guys are acting sooo surprised that this girl was commiting sexual acts at such an “early” age of 17. COME ON NOW! How old were you guys when you started givin up the sex? We all know that each generation gets weaker but wiser so be realistic, instead of saying OMG I can’t BELIEVE this would happen, BELIEVE IT and contemplate how you will teach your kids to avoid the same mistakes but remember mistakes will happen! All that OMG bull***** is the reason she killed herself in the first place. Stop judging people and take care of home and personal affairs and stop being biased about raising your children, don’t teach them just your ideas of the world, teach them the harsh realities too and don’t be too afraid to get out of your element sometimes to relate to them.

prior to her suicide they turned this into a law and order svu episode coupled with the judge who sent kids on minor charges and misdemeanors to jail for pay.

one thing people are missing is that she hung herself after coming back from a funeral of a friend who committed suicide, something that in the past has sparked other teens to do the same. add to her har*****ment, and something like this could happen.

Ever since the advent of camera phones and webcams, cameras that take instant pictures AND can immediately be sent as data across the internet, people have been doing this. Someone requests the pics, someone else sends. This is something that’s been going on for a long time, before you started hearing of celebrities doing it.

Thank you! We’re living in an age where it’s so easy to blame everything and everybody instead of looking from within. As harsh as this may sound, most call this a tragedy, and the sane and rational, calls it culling the herd. She was weak!

Every time she was getting made fun of, or when her parents looked at her with shame, embarr*****ment, etc..or how about each and every day she went to school?
To you and me and a bunch others, we probably could have handled the situation differently, but psychologically, we all have different coping strategies.. Maybe this girl felt she had no way out and didn’t have any support in her family or community. Maybe after going on screen to talk to others to prevent these types of things again, made her own situation worse by publicly announcing what she had done. you are rude and heartless. Don’t judge someone based on what “you would have done”, calling her a ***** among other things.

And I’m sure you would feel comfortable making such a statement to the mothers and fathers of those two precious 11-year-old boys who both hanged themselves. This isn’t about “natural selection” or “survival of the fittest,” it’s about a tragic loss of life.

Charles Blow of the NY Times wrote a moving column about both suicides recently, btw. He made this observation: “Children can’t see their budding lives through the long lens of wisdom – the wisdom that benefits from years p*****ed, hurdles overcome, strength summoned, resilience realized, selves discovered and accepted, hearts broken but mended and love experienced in the fullest, truest majesty that the word deserves. For them, the weight of ridicule and ostracism can feel crushing and without the possibility of reprieve. And, in that dark and lonely place, desperate and confused, they can make horrible decisions that can’t be undone.”

It was more than some nude cell phone pics being leaked. The photos were sent to not only students in her school but at least three others, and she was subjected to daily taunts and har*****ment. Her reputation was ruined (maybe this is a female issue, but for a number of girls and women, being labeled a “wh*re” is one of the worst blows you can suffer in the magnifying gl***** environment that is high school). As the quote I just posted says, kids don’t look at life through the same lens as we adults. The situations we see as surmountable don’t always appear as so to younger people who lack the wisdom and foresight to rise above certain denigration.

And why are we comparing this incident to the cir*****stances that other children live under in other countries? I don’t see the correlation — she obviously wasn’t living in that type of environment. It’s apples and oranges.

I was raised in an urban area with not a lot of money at times and then middle cl***** when their was actually a middle cl*****. I then went to a private school where you felt like you had to fit in but I never recall any of my cl*****mates going to the point where they let some taunting make them feel like suicide. It’s a very weak emotion male or female to let anyone influence you on taking your life. We need to teach our children some damn coping skills because honestly there is a lot more heartache to endure in life then some taunting. Teach your kids how to be individuals even when they make mistakes and also how to no give a damn about what others say all the time!

This is a sad case…but if this teen was taking nude photos of herself; she had some promiscuous behaviors all along…..so to be “driven” to commit suicide doesn’t sound right….she probably had some psychological issues going on all along…there are so many questions that should be answered…I don’t understand why a parent fails to see signs of severe depression and suicide behaviors…People who commit suicide usually cries out to be saved….Someone wasn’t listening…

Well I agree that BOSSIP is really playing themselves trying to put this on C*****ie/Rhianna first of all it’s sad but at the same time I’m a 28 year old female who has never sent nude pics to anyone in my life. What the hell was she doing at 17 sending her boyfriend nude pics we don’t even know what she as doing in the pics to be called a ***** and ***** maybe she was that and the truth hurts maybe that’s why she hung herself.
