Scandal extraordinaire Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was out creeping recently at the Grove Park Inn in Ashville, NC with a broad named “Carmen Slowsky”:
Reports that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick had a woman other than his wife with him at the Grove Park Inn before speaking at the Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast left event organizers disappointed Friday. The mayor had been with a woman who called herself Carmen Slowsky and that the two had enjoyed champagne and a whirlpool bath together at a cost of more than $500. A copy of the hotel invoice shows a stay arranged for two.A prosecutor in Michigan launched an investigation Friday into allegations that Kilpatrick lied under oath about an affair with his top aide. Kilpatrick is married, and news of an extramarital affair with his chief of staff had surfaced in Detroit recently. Kilpatrick has said the affair was over.

I would first like to thank you and the citizens of Detroit for the opportunity to have worked for the city that I love so much over the past six years.
Serving as Chief of Staff for the Kilpatrick administration since 2002 has been an honor and a privilege. I was born and raised in Detroit and my childhood goal was always to serve my city. I came back home after college to do just that. Serving our citizens and helping to transform Detroit into an even greater city is what I’ve been dedicated to everyday since January 2002.
As Chief of Staff, I managed key city departments in such areas as human services and labor relations as well as administering the day to day operations of the Mayor’s office. I’ve served the administration and Detroit citizens with diligence, strength and perserverance and I hope that my efforts will one day show through above all else.
In spite of this, however, I believe that it is clear I can no longer effectively carry out the duties of Chief of Staff. Therefore, this letter serves as my resignation effective, February 8, 2008 to allow for an orderly transition of my duties with the new chief of staff. I painfully regret the devastation that the recent reports have caused to the citizens of Detroit, to my co workers, to the Mayor’s family and to my family and friends.

Actually, all of that rejuvenation you have mentioned was orchestrated and brought in under Dennis Archer’s term. Kwame just happened to take office during the timeframe when those structures were actually erected…thus, allowing him to claim credit. The only thing he has done for Detroit is make it a destination for some major sproting events in recent years (i.e. The Super Bowl, Allstar Game, Final Four, etc…). Other than that, much of Detroit’s rejuvenation should actually be credited to his successor. If you want a good party, look to Kwame. If you want real change and effective leadership, look elsewhere.

this is a disgrace. I know of good folk who have lost their jobs with DPS. I know of folks who have had to leave DPS due to the fincncial instability and fatigue with regularly receiving pinkslips. I know of good Cops who have left the DPD for job and financila security.
But most of all I know of children in DPS that are illiterate and deserve better from elected officials who happen to be adults and who are supposed to be rsponsible.
And lest we miss. Christine Beatty stole from the city even more buy using her connects with Kwame to get 12k from a LOW to MOD income home buyer program. This after she couldn’t qualify for a 255K house in resedale park. This after makinf 140K per year for the previous two years. This hoe is a TRIP. This is not cute and is not excusable!

In other words, we pay the bills so we get to see what we want to see. I work for the government so I don’t put anything in writing at work that I don’t want to see on the news.
Lastly, not everybody cheats. Having sex with multiple people is allowed as long as everyone in that relationship agrees. However, if you are having sex with someone who is not your committed partner then you are a cheat and a liar. Period. If thats you then it is what it is. If thats who Kwame wants to be then thats fine, but don’t make excuses for the behavior and blame his wife and mistresses for what Kwame chose to do. If he is proud of his behavior, why not own up to it as a positive instead of hiding and denying it?
Ironically, if he had told the truth and owned up to behavior that he thinks is okay, then there would be no story. There would not have been an investigation and the police officers would still have their jobs and the city of Detroit would have 9.5M in its coffers.

Christine, Kwame and I have known each other for years. This is a case of a first love gone horribly wrong. They played together as kids, dated in high school. Kwame married Carlita because she got pregnant, he was with Christine even then. The families pressured the couple to get married because at the time his mom and aunt were both high profile figures at the time. Christine went on to marry and have kids with her husband, but they never stopped the affair, it has existed through the years. If Carlita divorced Kwame over this he would be married to Christine before the ink was dry on the divorce papers.
The kicker is Christine knows all of the dirt on him, city officials and all, of course she has to leave the job, but the affair will remain.
They have a position at some firm ready for her, they don’t have a choice.
They also have a pay off plan for wifey cause she knows the same mess too.
To add a little clarity to the case, Carlita (wifey) was the jump off years ago, Christine was the main chick, Carlita rolled the dice, got pregnant and came up with everything. She was basically a dummy who fell into a good thang cause she gave it up.
Kwame’s family could not afford scandal, that’s how Carlita got away with it, so to keep his girl Christine, boy did what he had to do, Carlita won’t let him go easy, that’s her meal ticket, she has a little education, not much compared to Christine, so she can’t do it up big like that.

Why don’t the citizens of Detroit throw these people out? Do they not realize that the money that the Mayor and his wife is spending is THEIR money? The tax money is for public safety and infrastructure services, not for people to go shopping or have parties.
The amount of money used to settle the whistleblower case could fund the salaries for a 911 call center that staffs about 200 people who take emergency phone calls.
Thats 200 people who could have a job to support their families and that can feed the local economy by spending their income.
In addition to stimulating the economy, those 200 911 call takers can answer emergency related calls to get the police, fire, and/or paramedics out to the citizens in case of emergency? The more call takers you have, the faster services are dispatched.
