I admit, I have not looked into this very much, but I will give this viewpoint from one of my readers. Charles says that the reports of Obama “cutting” aid to Historically Black colleges and universities are exaggerated.

    Illseed,

I’m a fan of your work, but I had to interject when I saw your comment on Obama and the government cutting financial aid to historically Black colleges and universities. I read the AP story and it is HIGHLY MISLEADING. I’ve spoken to black professors and they all say their schools are still getting federal funds from other sources and also the black colleges knew this was a TWO YEAR plan. So many colleges had prepared for such a circumstance. You have an ability to reach out to the masses and I don’t want the people misled. Consult a professor or an expert on the matter and he or she will tell you the same thing. Peace,

Another decision that Obama has made, that I don’t agree with….

He keeps doing this type of bs, so he can re-elected….

Getting rid of HBCUs’ is a HUGE mistake. That’s a piece of history….

With this kind of stuff and continuing to pander to Republicans, I dk about re-election…

  • always knew

His cabinet is not even diverse.

I am still waiting on him to start using a ‘scapel’ so that we can decrease the enormous amounts of spending that he has approved…

Spending is way out of control….Now, another war to finish what Bush started? I dk, but I don’t think so….
    :(

Last night, I was listening to NPR radio, and heard that Obama administraton is sending solders to Afganistan and Pakistan…

The Pakistaninan people are upset with us, because they are a soverign nation and expect to be treated accordingly…We are already on their soil and quietly have been for years. If other countries don’t want us there, then why are we always sticking our nose, where it doesn’t belong..

Other countries are getting tired of us, always trying to have control/ influence over other nations and people… I dk…Just a thought…

  • always knew

Just crolled up and saw other peoples’ comments that this information is false…

    Only time will tell..

I will definitely keep listening for the details on this one….
    :(

  • Dr. Winkie

hmmm…. gon need more info on this.

  • DR.FUNK

If the government DID NOT insert itself in the RACKET of student loans…ALL universities would have to adjust their tuition and fees to something that families could actually afford. You get these hi-five/lo-six figure loans from banks. You go out & get an average paying job.The loan is anchored around your neck for pretty much THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.It’s insane.

  • CICI

Umm he is in politics; he is not god.. Just cause he is black doesn’t mean nothing I mean look at Rice and Powell. Wake up y’all! On the other hand, all schools are suffering black universities and state universities alike!

  • SassyK

I agree with the user I DONT CARE

  • iopsycho

This article left out a lot. There is more to it than that.

  • what happened to my name?

obama used black folks to get elected. now, he’s stabbing us the back. if this is a good thing for black colleges, why are people upset? i’m sick and tired of black people defending this mulatto!

  • Niasia

Well if the HBCU’s can’t get their act together..hey do what you have to do! Have a convo with a graduate of an HBCU…very disappointing! I at one point wanted to attend now I would never send my child to an HBCU and will steer others away! Anytime the ALUMNI steer you away from their school there is a problem….and Dr Funk…you are correct the loans for my education are like a weight around my neck! And no I did not attend an HBCU!

  • Lady Next Door

I think it is a great idea to increase the Pell Grant-because those loans will wind up causing some to be in debt. I also think Scholarships for things like Peace Corps would help. President Obama wants to help everyone go to college, because he knows that people will be poor without it.

What part of TEMPORARY did these institutions not understand???

  • MELODY

listen i love my president he is doing his thang right now, most of the kids in “BLACK COLLEGES” ain’t tryna do nuthing with theirselves, they are actually wasting money, all the money he put out to the world since he been in office come on now, if they know like i know if your in school than collect unemployment and get that extra money he sending out and than you get that extension, simple problem solved. Or you can get oprah or one of them people that’s running around tossing out money to othe countries to sponsor the student that really care about their education but can’t tafford it which is about 1 out of 100, or go to a white skool and get that minority grant

  • Lady Next Door

I am interested in finding out how many of you actually read the article before you commented.

Getting grant money is far better than loans.

  • tscombo

    @ always knew
Everybody is so blinded by the DEMOCRATS vs REPUBLICANS issue. Its so easy to get us to fall into groupthink especially now that there is a bi-racial puppet in office. The ‘Bush’ policies will continue but this time Dems and minorities will defend them.

  • Mia

Obama needs to start checking himself – he’s becoming more and more republican by the day. Not releasing the torture pictures after promising to do so, etc… I love having a black president but not for selling my soul or the souls of black folks.

  • The Consigliere

look people IT IS NOT TRUE…HBCU’s WILL CONTINUE GET EXACTLY WHAT OTHER COLLEGES OF SIMILAR SIZE RECIEVE…I am an Advisor at an HBCU and if this were true there would be layoffs already

  • Amy

I do not care at all for Obama and didnt vote for him but to say that black colleges need not to stop taking handouts…let me correct you. Predom. white colleges and universities receive more money (a lot more) from the U.S. Government. So, if you think black institutions need to stop taking money from the U.S. government then the U.S. needs to strip ALL universities.

  • Come on

if you don’t believe anyone at least take into consideration what KRS has to say about this all. Obama is just a man used to mask the underlined efforts of those in charge. Just a puppet with the same skin-tone as the rest of us. The country was on the verge of revolution and they quieted our asses up with a black man who we will protect til’ the end because in our eyes he can do no wrong.

Those honkies better hurry up and killed barrack osama

  • blue

CAN’T WAIT TILL HE’S OUT OF OFFICE !

  • Serene

I know alot of US ain’t gonna like his decisions on this, but i agree. Give the money to the students. Some of these HBCU been getting money for years and the facilities and buildings are horrible. The money goes right into the pockets of the professors. And alot of these aren’t even accreditied and one of em that i can’t remember right now isn’t even trying to get accredited. And yes the whyte colleges get money, but you know what, the education, the facilities and the resources make it worth it for the students. Give the money to the students….as a student myself, i luv the idea

    Anybody calling for his murder,

should be locked up…If anything happens to him, I

will definitely forward this blog, so they can track you down….

  • phifeshaheed

Obama doesn’t care about the issue that black people face in the US, he cares about himself and his images as a president… he is a real political hack…

  • Kenya

I told you, Obam is the scam!!!

  • Elle’

This is serious I am going to keep my ear to the ground about this!

  • SSA

It’s amazing how many of you dumbasses don’t read and ready to knock Obama down without knowing the facts. What part of “redirecting the funds” don’t you understand?

I’m not shocked. He’s not all I thought he would be. When is he going to end the war in Iraq? Black School are last on his list.

  • K-mia

good! HBCU’s are pointless for the most part, we should get rid of quite a few!!! after attending one, I would never send my kid to one

  • Rrrrroe Ski Love-

Sometimes I wonder if we are more racist and disenchanted with ourselves, than a non black racist could ever be. This dialog goes on daily. We need constant self examination amongst ourselves on a regular basis, to see if we fit these unwanted images and catagories. In other words, why can’t we just better ourselves, but yet understand the plight of others, so we can help encourage them to do better.

  • mellowmoodd

dissapointed with obama anyway…thought he would have done more for the prophetess. we did act surprized that she did good in life. He could help, if he wanted to.

  • Candy

Why am I not surprised. He can find 100 million dollars to give to a foreign country but he can’t find the funding to continue a program that has been going on for 2 years. Black people elected him and this is how repays us.

Most people don’t know this but President Bush’s family gave hundreds thousands of dollars maybe more to HBCUs.

  • Candy

I meant millions of dollars in personal charity and hundreds of millions in government aid to HBCUs. Former Elder Bush also went on fundraising tours for the United Negro College Fund.
