I agree Rebellion. I am in honest person. I consider myself to be pretty well rounded and smart and level headed. I would love to live in another country where “race” is not a factor. Where somebody recognized me for me. Unfortunately, in America, it is not that way.
I get your point, but I choose to educate myself so I am not ignorant. I choose to look at the picture and consider all sides and think before I speak.
But the greatest thing about America is freedom of speech, of course there are always consequences, be them good or bad, but consequences just the same.
We are all entitled to our opinions. I made statements based off of what I read.
I believe there is definitely some truth to what I say. I know guys that have said they moved to certain states where dating outside there race is acceptable. So the point is, people will find a way to get what they want. Just make it be for the “right” reasons, which I understand will always be subjective.
This has nothing to do with our President.
I definitely voted for him.
But not because he was Black.
He had to prove he was worth my vote, just like other Presidents and people i vote for in my community because it means something to me.
I voted for him because he got my family members off the couch to go vote for the FIRST time in their lives.
I did not care that they voted for him just because he was Black.
I loved that they were paying attention.
That they cared about there lives.
That my little cousins who felt like they had no hope now had HOPE.
They thought about not having anymore babies young or dropping out of school or joining gangs and all the other things that go on around us.
I was impressed that this man indirectly became a role model for my family.
I spent 30 years of my young life trying to be a ROLE MODEL and he did it by in a year.
My friends and family made the decision to enroll in college, get their GED’s, get jobs, etc.
I felt as if he was influencing a nation and most importantly his people because that’s how my friends and family took it, that he was for them.
I voted for him because I believed in what he was saying. That he did not just care about me, but about this country. I voted for him because I want to reached that next plateau and I believe that he will help me get there. I want a piece of that pie and I feel as if I am finally able to achieve it.
I voted for hope, for change, for positivity, for someone to look at me and my resume and my education and give me a job based on what I have worked hard to obtain, not just see my skin tone.
So yes, I voted for Obama for many reasons. I was hoping someone would come along and show the people that I loved that they can do and be anything they want to be and he did that for me. I was proud to vote for the first Biracial President with a White mother and Black father.

Oh, and back to the condescending remark about “poverty” in the black community — Ironically, Russell has been accused of contributing his small part to that issue. The below excerpt is from an article that ran in April on a NY Times blog — the topic was how certain “financial assistance” actually hurts, not helps, the poor:

So the first sight of a white woman from a ‘good home’, who can teach him this role & give him validation, he’s gone! On the other hand, many of the women without a father around, yearn for that fulfilling relationship with their absent black fathers, and try to replace it with thier mystical notion of ‘the ideal black male’ partner. People, we are not living in fairy tales, get strong, fulfilling, enduring love where you can find it, and make sure the next generation doesnt have to go though this heartbreak. … It’s just sad to see! Please stop these damaging cycles!

It really doesn’t matter to anybody else that they are dating. In fact I wish them the best because I just can’t be bothered to think badly about people who like eachother lol.

I understand Julie’s need to defend herself but her statement was condescending and arrogant in its obvious use of white privilege to elevate her status. By doing so, she implies that she has only ever faced negativity from black women but it’s understandable since those women are “suprisingly” poor and beneath her and whatnot. It also suggests that the white community have been more accepting of this and we all know that this is not the case. Either way, she has constructed a dilemma for her and us; she will undoubtedly receive a huge backlash for this but also prove herself right by making us look even worse because some black women will take the bait.
It’s quite sad, we should ignore it. I think ignoring obvious provokation is much funnier than responding to it, the provoker always looks silly lol.
