Here is a blind item from Gatecrasher at NY Daily News:
Which reality-show clogged network had to change its casting procedures after a racist internal policy was leaked? Producers had an informal ban on considering cast members who were “too black.” They claimed it was because darker skin tones were hard to pick up on camera.
Well so much for thinking it’s VH1.

If it is MTV, then they forgot something… they don’t cast “too black WOMEN.” The men from Real World can be as black as they want, like Alton and Tyree (sp). But when it comes to the sistas, they go to Coral, Irulan, and Arissa. Still it is all too sad!

All the white people at my job love Flavor of Love. That is all they want to talk about and when I love New York was on they loved that to. We always hear about this or that being to black, but in reality white people love it.

@ Delta Diva: Agreed! When people like Teck (from Hawaii) and Alton (Las Vegas) and strictly bi-racial girls are the only representations of black people, something is wrong. Our people are too diverse for that one-sided “safe negro” representation. I’m almost happier if they just don’t cast black housemates at all. It beats type-casting just to meet the quota.

I thought that policy was common practice for videos, BET, black movies, black magazines, etc…. It’s sad that dark skin women are more likely to be cast in a predominately white movie or television show than a black production.

When it comes to white productions (cl*****ier than the Real World), they embrace straight from Africa black people or the neo-soul blacks… ya know, the black girls that NEVER rock a perm or weave. Then, when it comes to black productions, everyone looks damn near latino.

We can name numerous dark skinned brothers who are actors, comedians, sports figures etc. and they are made into sex symbols BUT where are all the dark skinned females? They started grabbing the ugmos and paying for their plastic surgery and that hardcore makeup before hiring a naturally pretty non white actress.

It sucks, but everyone comes down on darker-skinned blacks in the US, unless they are from Africa or the Caribbean….if you notice, you rarely see as many dark-skinned African-Americans…darker brothers and sisters “marry light”, or have babies with light-skinned blacks, Hispanics, Asians and whites, and one of th reasons is because they don’t want their children to go through what they went through. And dark skin is gorgeous — almost like velvet. But in North America, it’s all about how light you can be…we can’t avoid the brutal truth that EVERYONE, including us, are influenced by European standards of beauty….*****, even in Africa, women are bleaching their skin, in Asia, women and men are getting their eyelids “fixed” to look more Euro…and so many whites of Meditteranean descent bob their noses and bleach their hair….we are all a part of it. And this is not to let white folks off the hook by any means…although most of them cannot even hope to live up to the same standards….it’s all pretty tragic, really.

Funny when I do videotaping for jobs and there is a very dark skinned person. I use a new invention called A LIGHT! And I don’t film any black person in front of a white background as it’s hard for the camera to see them (with or without a light). Somebody tell them to come up with a better reason.
