it doesn’t matter where they married it’s all about their place of residence which, to my knowledge, is atlanta georgia. neither nas nor kelis reside in california so she is not automatically entitled to half of what he has earned. she’ll get a settlement of some sort.

if you read carefully, nas wants to deny spousal support, ie financially supporting kelis. kelis makes her money over in europe. she’s well liked there and has probably made a decent sum there. it’s lame when women have children and decide they don’t want to work

She may have filed in Cali, but the filing needs to be done, wherever the marital home is located.

If the marital home is in NY, he may be able to fight the Cali filing.

It seems like a very obvious legal strategy to get the most dough out of Nas, by filing in Cali.

Rumors have been floating of both parties being unfaithful and they seemed to have an unconventional marriage to begin with, so only those two know what is really going on with that.

But I must say that for a short lived marriage, spousal support should be minimal. Child support should be a must.

Other than that, chalk it to two people who should never have gotten married in the first place

Apparently Nas knows about her money situation. She’s probably been saving her stash and just spending his – which is smart!!! I bet he got a hold to her bank records and found out she got a nice chunk put away. If she don’t then SHE MESSED UP!!! I think at this point Nas don’t give two squats about her anymore and just wants to make sure the child is taken care of. In any case it’s a messed up situation. If they don’t get this mess straightened up the child will be the one to suffer and left in the cross fire.

Unfortunately, Nas might get got on this one. Since she filed for divorce in California, all household assets and earnings since they got married will be divided between them. Kelis may make money overseas, but Nas’ last two albums made good money too… so he might be coming out with the short end of the stick on that one.

However, she probably won’t get spousal support. And even if she does, it will probably only be for two years or less (since they weren’t married that long).

In my opinion, she shouldn’t get any spousal support since she has her own money. If she’s granted custody, she’ll get child support and that should be good enough.
