We’re hoping for the best for Ms Natalie. She’s been in and out of the hospital a lot these past few years.

Natalie Cole has a new lease on life.

The Grammy winner underwent kidney transplant surgery in L.A. on Tuesday and is now “resting comfortably,” according to her rep.

Cole, 59, has struggled with kidney problems while undergoing treatment for hepatitis C, which she was diagnosed with a year ago.

“The kidney came from a deceased organ donor through the regional organ procurement agency, One Legacy,” her rep said in a statement. In February, Cole was hopeful that her son Robert might be a possible donor match.

Cole, who has undergone kidney dialysis three times a week since September, is expected to spend the next three to four months recuperating. She plans to reschedule her summer tour dates in support of her album Still Unforgettable.

We’re hoping to see her crooning like the good ole days sooner rather than later.

Praise God! My father got a kidney transplant 3 yrs ago. I remember the dialysis 3 days a week (TTS), the cold spells, the infection from his stint, the jaundice in his eyes… Just thank Jesus, cause that is a real blessing! I hope and pray that it is not rejected! Stay strong Natalie!

How long are people typically on the list for a kidney donor? It almost seems as though celebrities get preferential treatment.

Aw, yeah!!!! I am really excited

  • Lady J

Yeah, that’s great, but I wonder how many people got “bumped down” the list because she was famous??? When she appeared on Larry King talking about her plight for a new kidney, hundreds of people called to pledge support…I wish everyone that needs a kidney could use fame to get “bumped up” on the list….

  • Chocolate Wisdom

    Well praise God for that!!!

  • Tweety

im happy for her but i do feel that she got one faster bcuz shes a celebrity. my husbands father had to wait 5 yrs. to finally get a new kidney

  • 2dimplzs

How did she get a kidney so fast?!? When she was on Larry King a few weeks ago, she said there were PLENTY of names on the list before her, and her case wasn’t that urgent. She made it seem as if her chances of getting a kidney anytime soon were very slim unless someone (a live person) decided to donate one to her.

So if she got a kidney from a deceased donor, through an organ procurement agency, she definitely got preferential treatment or paid somebody off.

On Larry King, Natalie made it clear she was in no imminent danger but was hoping for a new kidney so she wouldn’t have to undergo the inconvenience of dialysis, especially since she travels a lot.

I hope someone at the top of the list who is gravely ill doesn’t die because she jumped the line.

  • always knew

she needed that kidney because of her years as a
    herion addict…

I know she’s Nat King Cole’s daughter, but her voice irritates me..

I don’t know of one hit that she’s had, her voice

sound like a bunch of cats in a bag fighting…

I wish her well, but I still don’t see her

    talent…Sorry, I just don’t…

I wish Natalie Cole well in her recovery… I myself have about 20% left in my kidney (I was only born with 1) and I will be undergoing dialysis in a few months… Natale has had a superb career although she fell victim to drugs… Her hits were “Our Love”, “This will be(our everlasting love) , Unforgettable, her father’s remake which garnered her a Grammy… God bless her…

They didn’t “bump” anybody down the list for her, she’s been on that list for a while. Kidney complications go hand in hand with Hep C. This was expected by her and her doctor, she probably got in early at the first sign of problems.

  • http://www.bossip.com Toucheaway

My sister is battling Hep C and we’ve got our eyes open for the kidney problems. I don’t know if I match her, though. We’ll have to see.

Not that anyone cares, since this only got 27 posts, but you don’t get “bumped” up on the list because of money. See, a kidney is just like giving blood, has to be a match, and they go up the list. They call you, and you have like 2 hrs to get to the hospital. If not, it’s on to the next available recipient, etc. This is how my father got his. It was going to another person, but they were out of town for the holidays (December 2005), and he wasn’t. We rushed him to the hospital @ 2AM for that kidney! And it didn’t take right away. They said he got a “weak” kidney, and the doctor actually had to “thump it” to get it working. It is working well now, but he still has other complications in general, from being so sick for so long. It took him 2 yrs AFTER he got on the list (it’s not immediate – there is lots of screening) to get a kidney. It took my grandmother, his mother, 3, and her mother (my great grandmother)died from it and never got one.
I sometimes wonder where that leaves me?

Goes to show that you can BUY ORGANS (but people cant sell them!?!? B.S.) People are on the organ donor list for YEARS and she magically gets one…suspicious.

  • Nikkislice

I’m happy to read this I hope she turns out well. She recently canceled a show here in S. Korea had no idea she was having surgery.
