With traditional media often misrepresenting Black and Latina women, digital platforms have emerged to counter that, as well as showcase our varying talents and interests…For three well-known bloggers Christen Rochon of Divas And Dorks; Kéla Walker of Kéla’s Kloset; and Ty Alexander of Gorgeous In Grey, the blogging world not only birthed viable business ventures, but a true friendship… Having built robust brands for their respective sites and a community of followers to match, Rochon, Walker and Alexander saw a need to create a community of influencers and bloggers that they could match with brands and consumers to create engaging content…they launched Digital Sorority in August 2014.

BP Settles 2010 Oil Spill With Record $18.7B In Damages

After five years of litigation, BP announced a record $18.7 billion settlement with the federal government and gulf states — Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Texas — following the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, according to MSNBC. It all started on April 20, 2010 when an oil rig BP was leasing exploded and sank, killing 11 crewmembers and spilling 200 gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The ugly legal drama launched in 2011. BP was accused of being reckless with safety regulations to “ramp up profits,” according to MSNBC. Last fall, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier found BP “grossly negligent” for its role in the oil spill.

NASCAR Tracks Ask Fans Not To Fly Confederate Flags

NASCAR, the unofficial “Southern sport,” is taking a bold stand in the country’s Confederate flag issue as the victims from the Charleston church shooting are still fresh in their graves. Several of NASCAR’s national series tracks sent a statement to the Associated Press… asking that fans try to refrain from displaying the Confederate flag at races in light of the hate crime. “We are asking our fans and partners to join us in a renewed effort to create an all-inclusive, even more welcoming atmosphere for all who attend our events,” the statement read. “This will include the request to refrain from displaying the Confederate flag at our facilities and NASCAR events.”
