Yeah. The pole defintely has a negative stigma on most people. If he is a praise dancer..he should drape it or use an alternative method because people will not be able to seperate the pole from a prop for dance purposes.

You are most certainly entitled to your opinion. I chose to see the beauty in it. If it was a fully clothed woman wearing all white or purple free flowing dress praise dancing to gospel music would you still think the same?
You choose to see a man wearing timbs, a wife beater in his apartment on a poll. What he should have had on was free flowing clothing and barefoot or wearing dance slippers to better tell his story.

So I see where you are coming from. But the true gospel will allow you to see something different. I admitted to some of his actions looking a little suspect..however it was not all entirely that bad from a praise dance perspective.

He wasn’t gyrating on the pole, swinging upside down or humping, or doing anything, except spinning around, which puts me in the mind of the praise dancers at my church (all female) with their flag stick thingys twirling. I just don’t hate it. Has NOTHING to do with what I think of his sexuality.
Personally, I’d NEVER date an effiminate man (or a man who chose to worship in this manner), I like knockout artists, so I married one, but that’s just me…:)

If ppl have been paying attention to the way ppl have changed from the traditional ways the we praise God, this is no way different from Kirk’s music and gangsta gospel rapping and now praise dancing. The world is falling at rapid speeds away from God. I believe that is why we have all these different expressions in praising God. I personally dont see anything wrong with this “as long as you are praising God” and who is to judge if you are or not. One thing I have experienced about God “He has a way of reaching his children” and it can be right in the mist of one’s foolishness, so if ppl are playing with Him He has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect. I hope this brother continues doing what he is doing and also I pray that ppl will come to God by his dancing.

I really don’t know what to think about that. I am a C.O.G.I.C. girl and they do praise dances all the time. I guess if you *****ociate the pole with strippers, it could be disturbing. I am not co-signing on this but I think it was tastefully done. If you saw a stripper doing a praise dance, what would you think. Let’s turn that around. If she had her clothes on and she wasn’t dancing raunchy but she did a praise dance, then what would you say. He didn’t take off his clothes and none of his moves were suggesting sexual content so what’s wrong with the dance. I think it is us who has got the whole pole/stripper thing in our mind. When you see pole you automatically think stripper. Maybe we are the one’s who need to be more open minded. Now like I said I am no co-signing for him but at the same time I am not judging him, I am keeping my mind out the gutter, and I am trying to have an open mind. Let me start off by first apologizing to anyone who finds my dances offenses. It was certainly not my intention to do so. I now understand that a lot of people have negative stigmas towards pole art since it is a predominantly sex focused medium.

Secondly, while I do on occasion choose to express my sexuality via pole art, I am not a stripper. Not that I have anything against strippers (they have the ability to love God too) I am not sexually motivated when I perform.

Third, I am not a choir director lol but I am a very spiritual person and I am very active in the church. That is why I primarily listen and dance to spiritual and uplifting music. I love God with all my heart and I put Him first in my life. My praise and worship is real and from the heart. I go through the same problems and struggles in life just like you all and prayer helps me get through it.

Fourth, the pole is not in my living room lol It is where my dining room use to be. I had a heart attack at 25 yrs old and I wasn’t motivated to go to the gym consistently. So 3 months ago I took up pole fitness because I thought It would be a different and fun way to get in shape. And it is!! The health benefits are astronomical.

Lastly, I am not gay. I have actually taken a vow of celibacy and have been doing so for many years. Just because an individual partakes in pole fitness does not mean they are sex driven maniacs. I know a lot of great and wonderfully good people who hide the fact that they do pole fitness because they are afraid that the World is going to automatically judge them as w*****s. That is why I chose to step out there. To hopefully show the more positive aspects of pole art.

I know that there are many who condemn my performances as indecent and I respect their opinion. Believe me, I am constantly in prayer about this issue and I constantly struggle wondering whether or not I do the right thing. I know that I can’t please the World and honestly if I had of known my actions would have caused so much controversy I would not have done it. I am not that couragous. I even deleted all my videos off youtube. But do to popular demand by my friends and family I was told not to let others make me quit. I have so many people behind me who know me, who know my heart, and my character, rallying for my support. They tell me that God loves me and who knows my heart and to keep striving to use my talents that he gave me. I can only hope and pray that I’m following the path he wants me to be on.

Thank you to all who said encouraging kind words and thank you to all who didn’t say such nice words. I appreciate your honesty as well.

I think ppl accepting this “liturgic” dance are taking this too far. For instance, if drunkeness is a sin (not just a sip of wine but drunk) then is it okay if you get drunk for the Lord? No..it is not.

I appreciate your time and effort to explain you actions as you did not have to.

While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and how they express themselves, I just felt a little uneasy with gospel music playing while you were dancing on the pole. And you’re right, it probably comes from our pre-conditioned minds that when we see a “pole” we automatically equate that to sex, strippers, and the like. But hey, can you blame us?

I respect the fact that you are doing this for health reasons also. I’m sure that this can be great for a cardiovascular workout just as any other form of excercise is. Glad to see that you are doing well.

All in all, I hope that you can at least take the “negative” comments into consideration (not changing who you are and what you do) but to understand where we are coming from and why some of us got a little “upset”. I didnt judge you in my mind by calling you gay, or a ho. Thats not me. But I did question whether or not you knew how this would look to the m*****es and what your thought process was.

And by you responding, gives me a better understanding of that.

Honestly, I didn’t question how my dances (I have many praise dance videos on youtube) would look to the m*****es ahead of time. They are really moments between me and God and then after the fact I share them with friends and family who seem to like them. The thought never occurred to me that I would be perceived as offensive or blaphemous. I guess I really wasn’t raised that way. I don’t *****ociate pole fitness with ungodliness because I know other people like me who aren’t strippers yet do pole fitness and they are the most beautiful people in the world. This experience has been a real eye opener for me. Mostly that I am more so encouraged not to praise God and encouraged moreso to take my clothes off. That’s kind of saddening to me. I just can’t fathom putting someone down for praising God no matter how odd or different it is. Maybe because I was raised in a very church orientated family who rather see people close to God than far from Him. I dunno…

While reading your post, I started to see mental doors open up and truly understand that while it may be easy for US to judge the dances you do (on the pole) because WE are (most likely) caught up in the world and its worldlt things. Those who are true children of God (can often be tempted) but would not *****ociate any negative or sexual vibe from watching this video.

And for that, I will apologize for all of us. It goes to show that we are at two different levels with our relatiosnhip with God. I am creating a stronger bond with Him and am a ways away from where I want to be. Thus far, its AWESOME getting to know Him.

If this is how you connect with God and you know its true purpose, then by all means, keep doing what your’re doing. Who are we to judge that. It’s just that when I saw it, I was shocked and in awe.

Not so much as what you were doing (because it really wasnt sexual), but again, that brainwashed mentality of what images we equate situations to. And vice versa.

And I tend to agree w/ everything said Mr Phat Lips aka Jungle Cat 2nd post. It’s US that has the issues, putting praise/religion in this box and saying that is it. Cut and Dried. No room for anything different. Sure, you can sit in the pew, clap hands, stomp feet, catch the Holy ghost and run round the church if you like, but if you DARE step outside that box, no bueno, off top.
There are elders in my church that abhor the likes of Kirk Franklin and that genre, claiming that it’s really not “gospel”, and is offensive. How is this any different? Now that we understand the man and his intention, perhaps we shouldn’t be so quick to judge next time….

I understand that I could have taken another avenue as far as my praise dancing goes. I just didn’t really see the need to. Of course Jesus didn’t say, “Honor me on the pole.” They didn’t have pole invented by then. Then again he didn’t say, “Honor me on the drum, guitar, saxophone, blackberry, youtube, etc…” I think there are a lot of worse things that I could be doing on the pole. I just found it odd that people are judging me saying that Jesus doesn’t condone what I’m doing and also using profanity in the same post. Not that I’m judging you. I’m just saying I embrace my total being. I am a spiritual being, a physical being, and a sexual being. It doesn’t make me any different for those who go to the clubs on Saturday and sit up in church on Sunday. Which I do too because I love to party AND I love the Lord. I am just not a hypocrit.

Having masculine names is not really a concern to me. I’m secure enough in myself and my masculinity where wondering or not whether I’m masculine enough is not an issue to me. Why would I need to hide my perversion? When I want to dance to R&B and Hip Hop I do. When I want to pray and give reverance to God I do. There is no shame in my game. I embrace every aspect of ME. And no, I don’t think Hezekiah Walker envisioned a homothug swingin on poles to his songs. Here’s the issue I have with this. What belongs in the secular world, should not be brought into the church. Like when Kirk Franklin came out, some of his music, like Stomp, could be played in the clubs and in church. You don’t know whether to have a vodka with cranberry juice or drink the Holy Water; or get up do The Stanky Leg or to praise dance. Some things should be left for the World, and the things in the church should be sacred. In this sense, it seems that anything goes, as long as it’s being done in the name of Jesus, and that should not be the case.

That is probably the better question, but and I know it’s cliche’, but how do we know what is in someone else’s heart? Have you ever met a religious dopefiend? I have. (DMX is a perfect example)It’s the most confusing thing! But at the same time, I just try to think ,well, IDK his relationship w/ God and sometimes God takes us the long route to get us where he wants us to be. None of our journeys (for those of us that might be on that journey) to get to Heaven will be down the same path. Maybe your line is very short and *****ounced, while someone else’s is long and drawn out and all over the place. I think that is an individual decision for each of us.

I totally feel you on the sexuality tip. I have quite a few friends, male and female, who live alternative lifestyles but I have zero tolerance for dudes on the downlow. I think it’s beyond low to lie and scheme women whom they claim to love. I have no patience for folks who lead double lives at the expense of others.

I have no shame about what I do. I’m enjoying my years of celibacy. Trust and believe if I ever decide to break my vow then out my cards will be laid on the table. I don’t think I can put myself out there then I already have! My life is an open book. But I truly feel that my life is a path that I must walk alone and I have given it up to God and prepared to do so for the rest of my life if need be.

You may have started out a lil rough but clearly your real maturity showed through in the end. I am nothing but humbled by you.

@Jungle Cat: Don’t be sad…just live your life with the intention of honoring God and praising Him. I was raised Old School (choirs, long sermons on 2nd Sunday, etc.) But more and more folks feel a void in their religious practices, and their hearts may not be in the traditional ways of practicng their faith and showing the Lord the love, honor, and praise He is due.

Keep in mind that this is Bossip. Your post is next to a guy who keeps trying to convince everyone he isn’t gay by humping his mom’s floor in his underwear, as if to continue a running theme of “gayness”.

Stay in your walk with the Lord, and don’t worry about whether you will be in this walk alone. You are still young, and have your whole future in front of you. Your destiny is already designed by God (I believe), so it would probably help if before you post your videos, meditate, fast, and pray on the message you want to send to the world, then go where your spirit leads. If you follow this, and abide by the Lord’s will, you will truly walk, and dance, in His light.

I still struggle too, and I find it hard to always walk in His spirit, but I live every day by the principle of treating human beings the way I want to be treated. However, sometimes I slip and bust foks out due to particularly coon-tastic posts and whatnot.

Dude people lighten up! Saying that a pole is evil just because it’s used by strippers is just as stupid as saying that the dollar bills used to pay those same strippers are evil, too. But people have no problems putting money in the offering plate at church, so why do you have a problem with someone choosing to dance using a pole? His dancing was in no way offensive – if you don’t like it, don’t watch it!

Jesus in His day was thought of as a heresy against religion, too.

LOL Why Rozza that was truly amazing. I do thank you from the bottom of my heart with every fiber of my being for you encouraging words. I spent the majority of my day at work today I hiding in the bathroom on the brink of tears and fear. Some people can be extremely beautiful and honorable while others can be the epitome of cruelty. I guess I should be use to it but no matter how touch I build myself up to be, I am deeply saddened that so many people find my dances so offensive.

God knows I want to quit. Lord knows I’m afraid. Jesus knows I want to retreat back into hiding. I find myself looking over my shoulder now wherever I am. It’s not my ego, trust me. I feel that I’m just a *****ody. But the devil has a way of talking to people where they feel justified in the acts that they do and they truly believe that they are doing God’s work. I use to consider myself a person not afraid of anything but God but there are times when paralyzing paranoya and fear overtake me. There are so many crazy people in the world and they are capable of anything.

Your comments by you and your friends on facebook give me strength however. I feel very encouraged. But because I’m a realist and we don’t live in an ideal world, if something should happen to me, know that I’m deeply appreciative to you and everything you have said. I truly believe you were sent here by God because your message pulled me off of the edge.

I respect your opinion browneyez and I agree that our society does recognize poles as tools of strippers but that is partly why I’m doing what I’m doing. To hopefully change that automatic perception. I know that is a heck of a task but at the very least I hope that I will be able to convey how genuine and sincere I am. Not all pole dancers are strippers and do indecent acts.

Reading that someone said that deeply saddens me. Isn’t one of our duties as believers is to bring folks to Christ? Yet OUR actions tend to push them away. Please rest *****ured that not all spiritual believers are as judgmental and condemning as you are led to believe. The love and practices of Christ are beautiful things and feeling the presence of the Lord is a feeling that can’t really be described in words. Don’t let those who are lost in their anger turn you away from God. He is inside of you and has always been. Just forget about the rest of the world and seek HIM inside of you where he really resides. When you do true spiritual knowledge and divine universal love will truly start to unfold in your life.

okay…sooo…I tried to give dude the benefit of the doubt. Looking at it from an artistic standpoint, the dance wasn’t necessarily distasteful and he did very well. And all people praise differently. The guy seemed sincere in his praise. However, because of what “pole-dancing” commonly represents or is perceived as, it’s looked at as ridiculous or unholy. Personally, I give the guy 2 thumbs up.
