So the queen of phat and hatin’ on skinny b*tches is about to become a skinny b*tch her damn self. Mo’Nique recently dropped weight so that she can keep her raggedy high school sweetheart from steppin’ out on her and gettin’ it in with some skinny b*tch.

Mo’Nique, who has always declared herself as “fat and fabulous,” talks about why she felt compelled to shed 40 pounds.

The 5-foot, 6-inches tall actress/comedienne, who admits to having weighed as much as 262 pounds at one point, tells Jet magazine that she made the decision after a conversation with her husband of three years: Sidney Hicks.

“I decided that I had to get some of that off of me,” she tells the mag. “Sid and I had a conversation. What he said to me was motivation. It was so gentle and sweet and he wasn’t judgmental. He said, ‘Baby, that’s too much and I want you for a lifetime.’”

No one had ever challenged Mo’Nique to lose weight in quite that way, so she decided she had to do it, so she could be here to enjoy her family. As the pounds melted away, speculation began that Mo’Nique had had gastric-bypass surgery, but she tells Jet no way.

“I’m so scared of needles,” says the mother of three, including 3-year-old fraternal twins. “Baby, for them to take blood from me, it’s a production. This was truly making the commitment to watch what I eat and commit to working out. I stopped eating red meat. I want to say to big people, ‘Let’s be healthy big people.’ Everybody can’t be a size 0 or 45, but let’s be healthy.’”

Mo’Nique says she currently tips the scale at 224 pounds, and she hopes to get down to an even 200.

“By American standards that is still considered obese,” she says.

For more on Mo’Nique’s weight loss and her new BET TV show, as well as her critically acclaimed role in ‘Precious,’ pick up the new issue of Jet, on newsstands today.

This is funny. All these years, Mo’Nique was anti weight loss and loving yourself for all your rolls and lumps and bumps and the minute she gets a man she’s hittin’ the gym and gettin’ her Jenny Craig on. WTF

  • JB Cougarlicious – In Luv wit a Male Stripper named….

I am glad that she has realized that a change was needed. ANd that youdon’t hav to be a size 2. You can be a 14 and still be healthier than a size 0.

Good looking out and doing it the right way for you and your family and not society

  • Ash

Ever seen someone who was 70 years old and obese??…Didn’t think so…glad she’s getting off that “big is beautiful” trip because in reality big is deadly.

  • Caramel Cat

I’m a skinny b1tch and I’m hatin’….all that talking out the side of her neck about being big and fluffy and loving your rolls and now she wants to be healthy???? She should have known back then when she was talking all that ish that being overweight can cause health problems. I know that was a part of her act but she singled out skinny women as though we were evil or heartless. smh, I’m glad she came to her senses though…

  • Souljagir

well, let her do what she does she’s not going back on what she said she’s working on maintaining her marriage! Stop judging people so much she’s straight out the gate and real. If she feels it’s necessary to loss some weight more power to her she’s still beautiful inside and out!

  • Bae.

Guess she’s gonna be “evil” just like
us when she’s done losing weight huh?
    Womp.

  • Glok9n: The real glok !!! Lev 20:13

I ALWAYS SAID IF SHE WAS TO LOSE A LIL WEIGHT ,..SHE BE A BAD BYTCH!! ,, ID FUK SHE TOO,..YES I WOULD ,BUT SHE OUTTA SEASON ,..ITS SLIM GOODIE SEASON NOW!

  • SCatty

She looks good and probably feels better. But I agree with Caramel Cat. She shoulda known all that “Fat and all that talk” was stupid as hell. You dont have to be tiny to be healthy. The key is being healthy. Just being fat for no damn reason is just stupid. Heart attacks, diabetes, certain types of cancer will form in fatty cells only…Get healthy and lose some damn weight. She is doing the right thing.

  • MySoulIsFull

If she looses, she looses. If she doesn’t, she doesn’t. Whatever her choice and her reason, thats hers to make. If it means her being “healthy”, cause we all know that obese does not mean healthy then I say way to go!!

  • OooLaLa

Well good for Mo’nique. Making sure she lives a long healthy life is the most important. Best wishes to her and her family.

  • kb

I am pround of her. It takes a humble person to live so publicly and to have made the comments she did to backtrack and change her persosnal views. Go MO MO!

  • Robert

I don’t understand why everyone has issues with a person having a change of outlook, or a realization of life. We all grow and change and as we experience life our outlook changes. She didn’t say big wasn’t beautiful she said let’s be ourselves and be healthy. We all know women killing themselves to be thin, but just cause you a big girl don’t mean you gotta eat any and all things in sight. Be you, but be healthy.

And good for her man saying “I want you to be around” So she thought yeah, I got babies and a husband, I need to be here to be with my family so I’m gonna get healthy, NOT SKINNY, Healthy!

Stars are people too, how many things did all of us used to have opinions about that have changed, celebrities just have proof that they said it, but the they can change their minds too!

    YOU GO MONIQUE!!!

  • big_man

I can let you know for a fact that she had that weight taken off and she didn’t loose that weight as in person activities. She had it removed!!!

I know because my wife was tried to speak to her after she had it done and she rudely dissed her. She thinking she’s all that well I’m putting the woman on blast.

  • big_man

She had it done around the De Soto and victory area of Woodland Hills/Canoga Park area. My wife saw her around the Kaiser Permanent building.

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

    That’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!!!

    Good Job Mo’Nique!!!

I’m happy she got rid of that “f*ck a salad” and I refuse to exercise attitude…

That’s how you ladies be messing up = by letting yourself go after you gotta man or have kids and then come up with a bunch of lame a$$ excuses as to why you can’t exercise or eat right/healthy… SMH

  • bri

i am happy that she has decided to take the path to a healthy lifestyle. she has three children that i am sure she would like to enjoy for many years to come. i think it’s beautiful that her husband has encouraged her to step up her game in the area of fitness and nutrition. some of us are blessed to have concerned and loving husbands. support your family always! – love -

  • vexinthecity

Good for her. It was either lose weight or eventually die of a friggin’ heart attack!

  • Crystal

I am happy that she wants to lose weight. She can be a role model for all women that are borderline obese to know that they can do it as well.

A lot of times heavier women say that they are happy with themselves and they are not. When your weight gets out of control you need to lose the weight for health and self-esteem.

I was once 180 pounds at 5’2. That was one of the most miserable times of my life. Now I am about 130 (which is still thick) and I have kept the weight off for about 7 years with continuously being aware of what I eat and dieting when I gain a little weight. I can’t be the happier.

  • missunderstood

I hope she doesn’t lose too much. She won’t look right, and she’ll get that “horse-head syndrome”…
Glad she is getting healthy tho….

  • Not Trying to be a Hater

Why couldn’t she lose the weight for HERSELF?!! Seems like she has become everything that she’s been talking AGAINST. Be you, be real damn! I hate it when people double talk – they say one thing and don’t even mean it. I’m glad she’s losing weight though – don’t get me wrong. But she should have made the decision to lose the weight for herself and her children, not for some man who’ll probably cheat on her anyway. Besides, don’t they have an open relationship?!

  • sasha

I am happy for her! She doesnt have to be skinny but healthy is where it is at!!

  • l thomas

I understand Monique’s position to love yourself and be comfortable in your own skin. Everyone is not going to be a size 2 but to hate on women who maintain their figures, was wrong. Being healthy is the key whether your a size 2 or 22. I think she is finally realizing that.

  • topazhoney

  • eveinthegarden

Good for her…and yes…at5’6 she still could stand to drop another 50-70lbs. Its a 100lbs for 5 feet and 5lbs for every inch over that… so medically…she needs to be around 130-150 tops.

  • Tee

    she looks good.

She needs to drop some more, still overweight and in the unhealty zone.

She’s still fat as h_ll. When you’re that big, you have to lose 100 lbs for it to show. Yuck!

  • Christmas Jones

I’m not black woman bashing, as I am one myself. BUT I will say too many of us think that thick is it, no matter if we have diabetes and both our legs are about to be amputated.

Its not about being skinny…its about being healthy, eating right and having an active lifestyle.

Monique always got on my nerves with her rants. I kept telling my best girl, “this woman is ushering a whole new generation of obese, lazy, unhealthy, diabetes stricken black women.” There is no honor in that, we are better than her ranting about her own personal self hate.

Glad she’s now seen the light.

  • Cutie

    @ NO ID

Your right, it’s just about being eating healthy and having some type physical activity 3-4 times a week for 20-30mins a week. If your going to big make sure your Big-Beautiful-&Healthy

  • Niasia

Women women women. I know her DOCTOR at some point told her she was too damn big. But it took her husband for her to lose some weight. I mean really when will women especially black women realize that ok you may think you look good with that weight but your heart doesn’t like it. At one point I had gotten up to a 12 and those were tight. My regular Dr. said well you know you dont look big you could come down but nothing alarming. I went to a specialist for something and he looked at me and said in a very matter of fact well miss you are considerably overweight…..DAMN is all my mind could register. Mind you I looked acceptable and I wasn’t considered fat by others. That day I went home and had a plan. I lost 30 Lbs in a month and a half and I have not looked back mind you I was no where near Mo’nique (could never be)! Black women need to let the whole “looks” thing go, think about your HEART and joints and so on….not how you look for your man!

  • Caramel Cat

    @Christmas Jones

I thought the same thing when she was talking all that trash. There are too many women who are struggling with their weight for this crazy chick to come along and tell them to just be cool with being big…I’m not saying everyone should be a size 2 but you can’t just celebrate being fat all willy nilly and then find yourself confused and distraut after the doctor diagnoses you with a weight related disease…

  • Jamaquina.Cubana

    @ NIASIA…
Ur right girl! Recently injured myself and was bedridden for FIVE WEEKS. Gained a couple pounds, nuttin’ drastic but…CARE TO SHARE THAT ‘PLAN’ OF YOURS???

  • Undacuvabrutha

    From a male perspective:

First off, Monique never attacked skinny hoes who were cool and proud of themselves. She was talking about those hoes who were 6’1, 120lbs and crying when they put on 5lbs. Second, Monique was mostly right in her synopsis, most black women (especially black) are going to be thicker than most, but it is always the mainstream that frowns upon that. Look at all the hate that was/is thrown at Buffy, how the hell do you suppose she can lose all that ass.

Most of the women in my family are big women and we haven’t lost anyone to those diseases normally associated with being overweight. It’s good that Monique lost some weight, but that don’t guarantee her a longer life. She looked good (to me) then and looks good now. I will say now though she can probably try alot more positions in bed. That should be fun.

  • Richard

We don’t talk about it but every guy has had that big chick we loved seeing that we didin’t want to be seen with. She makes it easier for big girls to get love too. Leave her alone.

  • Come on People

You know it takes a real man to sit down and have a discussion with his wife to let her know that she needs to be healthy starting with her weight. Most men belittle their women and make fun of her, instead of addressing the problem. it takes a real woman to listen to him.

  • TheMan

you cant tell a black woman she is getting to big without there being a fight.

  • chaka1

    @theman

You are right about that, because I will bust ALL the windows out your car if you talk about my weight!

Ladies, you don’t have to be size 2, but you have to be in control of your weight, your health and what you stick in your mouth.

Health issues run throughout my family, so I have always worked to stay in the same range. Now that I am getting older, it’s getting easier to eat healthy and stay active because I have been doing it for so long now.

  • Glok9n: The real glok !!! Lev 20:13

    LOL!!

  • chaka1

Funny thing about me is, I like my men to be a little “thick.” I want something to hold on to.

  • Traydayz

I believe her point was love yourself no matter what your size is. She was giving self esteem to big women that were not hearing it anywhere else. It is not like she is trying to go down to a size 2. Hello she is going down to 200 pounds which makes absolute sense if seh wants to live past 50. She will still be fat and fabulous just not overly fat. There is a difference.

  • TheMan

but Chaka if i cant tell you that im not feeling u anymore sexually because of the weight, i will just start to be distant and looking at other chicks that do it for me. Most black men do like thick girls, but Ashanti is thick, Kim Kardasian is thick, Monigue is fat, even at 200. im 6’1 and 200.

  • knottmyhair

it’s not all about a man all the time….maybe she neded someone who loves her to tell her she was living a un-healthy life….she has small kids and a whole lot to live for…she’s doing one of the best things a woman can do for herself…she’s still Mo’Nique and hasn’t lost anything but weight…wonderful for her for taking a stance!….we love us sum dayum Mo’Nique!Ya heard!

    Just the Way You Are
    Billy Joel

Don’t go changing, to try and please me
You never let me down before
    Don’t imagine you’re too familiar
And I don’t see you anymore
I wouldn’t leave you in times of trouble
We never could have come this far
I took the good times, I’ll take the bad times
I’ll take you just the way you are

Don’t go trying some new fashion
Don’t change the color of your hair
You always have my unspoken passion
Although I might not seem to care

    I don’t want clever conversation
I never want to work that hard
I just want someone that I can talk to
I want you just the way you are.

  • Jazmine

I’m really not being funny but big bytches talk that shyt all the time. I don’t care what anyone says. No one wants to be fat!!! It just aint right. I even believe Jesus doesn’t want us to be fat. That may be taking it to the extreme but I’m sorry. I think he wants us to be healthy and live long prosperous lives and you just can’t do that at 5 foot 6, 262lbs! Sorry big girls…but the truth shall set you free.

  • Jazmine

    @Chaka1

I like my men a little thick too…not fat and just absurd!!

  • Taya

Good. Maybe she can stop hating smaller women and use that venom she has to better herself. I can’t stand Monique. She constantly antagonizes skinny women by saying we can’t cook and we are hungry and so forth. No it is called commitment, dedication, exercise and healthy eating. There is a such thing as will power and determination without a magic pill or the aid of a plastic surgeon cutting out a portion of your extremely large stomach. Good luck Fat ass.

  • ChiChi

Honestly, Monique was a little too much with the skinny women are evil, but she has always said to love your self AND be healthy no matter what size. And like it says in the article, she’s still 224. That ain’t hardly skinny.

  • Wanjiru

…I hope her hubby also “motivated” her to start shaving her legs!!!!…
    :(

  • http://bossip.com Jay-b

i dont think Monique was tryin to promote an unhealthy lifestyle but promote self confidence in women who are overweight. I find it that a lot of people try to find the negative in many situations when sometimes its not the intent. We also have to keep in mind that alot of these qoutes that people reference come from a stand-up comedy act. she is an entertainer and i think that we need to decipher between jokes and reality. she is a big beautiful woman who tells jokes so let take it for what it is.

  • Ummmmmm….

I’m glad to see she finally got with the program. She knew damn well she was too big to be claiming all that F.A.T nonsense.

Now, if she would just partner with Queen Latifah, Dr. Ian Smith and kick off a weight loss campaign to revert all the sistahs she poisoned with her message — that would be too, like right!!!

I hope you are reading Monique. You know you were wrong for that.

  • http://deleted BMW

I think she was trying to prmote self esteem within the big girl community!

  • Whut??

Just when you thought you had your next Monique fat joke ready……I luv it when big women pull stunts like this and show up looking HOTTTT.

It’s gonna ruin her career, but she is healthy and people will have to dig deep to find something negative to say about her from now on.

  • Big Sexy

Actually Mo’Nique has never been anti-weight loss – I support her views…she’s always been about loving yourself – No matter WHAT package you come in. She has always used being healthy as a platform. And if she feels like she’d be healthier by losing a little weight – Good for her!

Just because you decide to become healthier shouldn’t mean that you have revoked your “card” from the community. That’s some ignorant thinking right there.

You should still be able to champion the causes you have always supported regardless of your size.

  • enkogkneegro

Never cared for her much but wish her the best with her new outlook and weight loss…everyone deserves a long healthy life…..

  • Nettiepoo

Good for Mo! I am happy for her.

  • Yvonne

I like Mo’Nique and I know her commons sense told her to lose some of that weight a long time ago for health reasons, but she could not get motivated until her husband told her to lose the weight.

If she loved herself just as she was, which is what she was telling other thick girls to do, she would not have changed.

That’s why I make my own decisions and don’t listen to any celebrity, especially when they don’t follow their own advice.

  • Tammy

    NO COMMENT……….I JUST LOVE MONIQUE

  • Sean

WHAT IS WRONG WITH BLACK AMERICA. If she is 5’6 and over 250lbs, that is extremely unhealthy. Do we all want to die of high blood pressure, strokes, diabetes, heart disease, etc? You can be healthy and thick, and her getting down to 200lbs is a great start.

  • Tee

I think it is wonderful that she decided to keep her family together. Based on what she said her husband came at her in a loving and respectful way. I would do what I have to do within reason to satisfy my husband. She is still beautiful, looks great, and I do not believe she has compromised her beliefs at all. I believe she is doing what other married couples should do..work at the marriage, exhibit some give and take and be committed, loyal and supportive of one another and best of all LOVE one another…It’s a beautiful thing!

  • always knew

Yall love to hate when someone is doing something positive in their lives but as soon as it is negative you can’t wait for the oppurtunity to stomp them down! “They only time you should look down on a person is if your helping them up”

u know i agree with u slim, for me im happy for monique losin the weight, that is a tremendous amount of weight but to me i didnt like the way she dissed slimmer women that wasnt right and now look at her, she is slimmin down but i am happy for her..i had gotten into a relationship been with the same person for 3yrs and gained 50lbs by stress, depressed and eatin chinese food, then i realized by the cute things i wanted to wear, i couldnt because they were too small for me and what hurted me the most is when i bought a size 5x in pants and i looked at them and said wow i need to really lose this weight, plus i was startin to become hypertensive, edema in both feet, lazy, didnt want to do anything, then i decided to make this change for me and not for anyone else. i cant believe she was where i was, at 263 and not im now at 226, 2lbs from her and still droppin so im proud of her. @ slim, ur absolutely right about ur comments and im not hatin’ im congradulatin!!! :)

  • Hasheem

The truth is the light! There is nothing wrong with being big, there is something wrong with being big and unhealthy. The bottom line is obesity is killing our people with high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, asthma and etc. You go sister, making a change to save you life for yourself, husband and children. yuou have my props

  • BamaGirl

I say way to go girl. I mean come on we thought she was funny as hell not because she was fat, but because she has a personality that is straight up set em straight like, and speak on what you know. She spoke on being larger and in charge yezzz, trying to empower women like herself and now shes speaking on some hey I’m happy with my man and he has given me advice that will better not only her life but the lives of those around her! Big ups girl!!!!

  • Ian P

    good one pamela

  • The Treadmill is Your Friend

Being huge is not HEALTHY!!! It has nothing to do with keeping a man. Like another poster said, you do not see people of old age who are also obese. Having too much weight will kill you. Additionally, I am sick and tired of folks talking about they’re just thick and curvy. Serena Williams is THICK. Her butt is bigger as are her thighs, but she does not have a great big gut! Please note: a big gut is not a CURVE…it’s FAT and it will kill you. Too many folks are falling back on the curvy, thick argument because they don’t want to put down the fork and get on the treadmill. We’re killing ourselves people, stop BSing and take care yourselves. This does not mean a size 2, but a size 20 is not healthy.

  • SASHA

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE THAT HE WAS THREATING HER TO LEAVE FOR A SKINNY WOMAN???? WHY CAN’T IT JUST BE A HUSBAND BEING CONCERNED ABOUT HIS WIFE’S WEIGHT…..PEOPLE DON’T HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO BUT ASSUME SOMETHING….YOU SEE WHAT THAT WORD BEGINS WITH!!!!

  • Miss J

WOW she’s only 5’6 she seems taller on tv… I couldn’t imagine myself being that heavy at my height. But good for her if she did it for health reason & not for dude.
