    GROSS.. :( JK. :)

  • Superbiotch

Yeah, they are all kinda old. How come Flavor Flav isn’t on the list? Isn’t he like 70 or something? He’s older than Jesus I thought…oh well, top ten, maybe bronze, we’ll see!!

    LOL @ SUPERBIOTCH… I THINK IT’S CAUSE HE’S IRREVELANT NOW…

  • Lacey

Who doesn’t know this. Most of them have been around since the early 90′s.

  • ATLBlogger

Damn, Young Jeezy 31? I thought he would be around 26 r 27. Anyways, I question Rick Ross age.

  • sushine20745

almost everyone in the biz lies about their age..especially females.

  • goons

damn, 50 is only 33..could have sworn he was pushin 50 just like his name..luda only 31..damn he so young!!!

  • PRPPLE, just call me TADOW

umm they are not old, age is nothing but a number…all of them is at a good age to be doing what they doing as long as they mature with they music…now 45 and up i cant call it.

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators

    @Superbiotch

Flavor Flav TURNED 50 YEARS OLD this year!!! SMH

And he’s STILL running around yelling “Yeah, boy!!!” and wearing that stupid a$$ clock around his neck…

  • kahmmillion

What was the point of this list?

  • statim08

Hov got to be over 40.

  • 6 Figgas

Some of these cats in their late 30′s still post up at the club like they’re college freshmen or somethin’…

  • Superbiotch

LOL damn, that is kinda sad. A grown man walking around with a clock on his neck and viking horns on his head at 50 years old. I don’t get it. My son’s grandparents are Flav’s age and I’ll be damn seeing them walk around looking as ridiculous as him. Maybe he has some type of geriatric issue or something.

  • Negrodamus Believes

Man they can “afford” to be young. They don’t have to work everyday and they don’t need to get married for that extra 25K your loser spouse brings in. Their reality is just different.

  • Angee

I’m not surprised by any of this, and no grown man over the age of 35, hell 30 should be rapping!!

  • PeeWee

    @ Kami
You sound stupid our young men should have their D**N parents, grandparents, older siblings & relatives as role models…and these men as entertainers!

  • B.I.N.F.L

WELL IF THEIR ALL HEALTHY THATS ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME.AND ITS NO SHOCK WE ALREADY KNEW HOW OLD THESE GUYS WERE ANYWAY IF NOT THATS WHAT GOOGLE FOR LOL.

Yeah, they can………but they leave off the part that they have to come home from clubbing and take a nap to recuperate.

  • BROOKLYN

    OK ANNNNNNNNDDDDD

  • http://yahoo PhatDjSwagger {a moment of silence for Dolla}

    ICE T HIS MID 50′S

    FLAVOR FLAV EARLY 50′S
    SLICK RICK LATE 40′S
    KRS ONE EARLY 40′S
RAPPER’S ARE GETTING OLDER NOW HIP HOP IS GETTING OLDER

  • Be Real

@Angee…Are you serious? People over 30 shouldn’t rap? GTFOH. If you got skills, then you got skills. I don’t care how old you are. And 30 is not old. But I do agree that, at some point, your subject topic in your music should change. You shouldn’t be rapping about the same things at 35 as you did at 19. And, let’s be honest, who in the rap game (on a lyrical and “real” hip-hop level) under 30 is making a whole lot of noise? Not too many, for real.

  • http://www.myspace.com/jcstansb Man I just dont care™

I’m sure we can add 3-5 yrs to the above listed D.O.B.s

  • pm

I would rather have them anyday then soljah boy and bow wow .. maybe thats just me

  • HaitianSurvivor

    @ Mimi
you sound like a hater… You’re entitled to your opinion but I don’t agree with much of it

  • Nakia

Hip Hop and rapping is a style of music just like any other genre and it’s stupid to say that it has an age limit. Should Aerosmith stop touring and making money? Madonna is over 50 and (while she SHOULD maybe put on some more clothes) she’s still making money. Miss Tina Turner can still shake her stuff. If we leave hip hop up to the young dummies coming out now hip hop WILL die because it can’t last as nonesense. There needs to be SOME art and lyricism to the music to keep it alive and that’s what these old heads and originators are for. Respect your elders punks!

BTW…leave the clubbing alone. Is there an age limit to fun? You can’t hang with the same young crowd but nobody should be expected to only attend family reunions and polo matches over a certain age. If you still enjoy loud music and dancing, get your party on!

  • Smoovee Sayz

Damn so LL is really over 40 huh???
Im just going to stay in denial with that situation

    Morning Morning err’body

And DMX is far to old for his foolishness.

  • SoulJourneys622- realizing my potential and continuing to evolve

LOL!….This is funny…a bunch of freakin Jodies! The only real comment for most of these dudes is “Grow Up”

  • pm

black fans are so disloyal now the rolling stones or and aerosmith can get on stage in wheelchairs and still pack a stadium, so can country artists…..and we wonder why true black music is a fading away.

  • Lady J

They need to pass the baton to the younger generation….share the wealth people!!

  • elle

who is to say that 30+ is old? I bet most of you wont be saying that the day y’all become that age. Yea they need to not be doing the things that they do at their age but 30 is not old at all that is when you are at your peak

  • JUJU

30 IS NOT OLD, OBVIOUSLY MOST PEOPLE COMMENTING HERE ARE PERHAPS IN THEIR EARLY TWENTIES, THEREFORE THEY FEEL AS IF 30 IS OLD. MOST RAPPERS HAVE TO STRUGGLE FOR YEARS B4 MAKING IT TO THE TOP, WHICH BY THE TIME THEIR RECOGNIZED, THE YEARS HAVE ADDED UP, BUT I FEEL SKILLS IS SKILLS AND AS LONG AS U DON’T LOOK LIKE A OLD HAG AND SOUND GREAT, THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS! AGE DOESN’T MATTER TO ME.

  • Nigga Said

There’s nothing with rapping at that age as long as your content changes. 35 and over your content needs to change. Except if you’re Ghostface-aka- the greatest rapper of all time.

  • Luv-Lee

Word PM @ ur 2nd comment!!! This is so true!!! This just backs up the theory that Black people do not look out for eachother like other cultures do. White people always stick together, Hispanice people always got eachothers back, Indian people always hold eachother down, Asian people always help eachother out, Black people only look out for themselves. Sorry if this offends anyone but this is how I see it. KISS is still selling out shows!!! How many seats to u think any 80′s hip-hop group would sell if they were the headliner?? Does the Lil’ Wane generation even know ANY hip-hop groups from the 80′s? Are they even familiar with Rakim???

  • Illuminate Truth “Mind Control – Corruption of Your Thoughts – Destruction of Your Soul

Why is hip-hop the only genre of music that will clown on the older artists (i.e. rappers with staying power) while other forms of music (R&B, rock) put theirs on a pedestal?

    Yeah they old(er)……appreciate that.

On another note….some names on that list DO need to grow the hell up.

  • http://dicooper.spaces.live.com/ DICooper

    Rap as a lost art.

That’s my next article. Thanks Frank.

  • TeeTee K

They 4got about my boy, Jim Jones….I know he’s over 30…

  • http://twitter.com/mizzmeka Mz_Magnificent1 AKA The Magnificent Wit The Sensational Style

I flat out REFUSE to believe Jay-Z isn’t already 40…hell he probably about to be 45!!!

Honestly, I don’t mind people over 30 rapping…but when they start to sound like an oldhead tryna to be down with Soulja Boy THATS when it becomes a problem.

Like I can’t imagine never hearing Jay-Z, Kanye, Nas, Common, or Andre 3000 stop rappin just b.cuz they aren’t a youngin…naaaaw SMDH we need them.

  • Nelly

    Yall 4-got NELLY HE 34 35 ISH!!

  • Illuminate Truth “Mind Control – Corruption of Your Thoughts – Destruction of Your Soul

    @ Nelly

Yeah u right…….we did forget Nelly.
    Please allow that to continue.

  • Jamaican Princess

It’s not the fact that they are over 30 that should be discussed. It’s the fact that at 30, the subject matter for much of their music has not changed, and neither has their outlook and worldview.

    *side bar*
Rick Ross is only 33? That must have been 33 rough years!
And J-Zay is older than that. I don’t care what the list says!
DMX… he needs Jesus to take his wheel. If at 38 he can’t figure that out yet, he need a good old fashion church intervention.

  • flawda

All the good rappers are over thirty and all the shitty rappers(Lil Wayne,Soulja Boy,Hurricane Chris, etc) are garbage.

  • PeeWee

    @ Kami
I’m only going to respond to you once so here it goes… 1) Instead of you saying “Oh well..black women this is what out young boys have as role models” you should have said “women be better role models or find men who are going to be great role models for your young men” so they won’t have to look to ENTERTAINERS…you know? Get on everyone thats responsible not just some. 2.)You also sounded stupid by saying they were indulging in childish ways…How?? Some of those men up there have a CAREER in which they are making millions upon millions of dollars by peforming an art!…while you are reading about their lives desiring for gossip! So you do sound stupid…no let me change that you sound ignorant, close minded and jaundiced!

  • Speaking the truth…™

Nas had it right when Hip Hip is Dead…this list just shows that they will be the elders of the next generation of rappers. However, I blame the music industry for trying put forth these bubble gum rappers talking about nothing – nor do they have anything to talk about. Its sad.

  • HaitianSurvivor

It doesn’t matter your age, country, ethnicity… Hip hop is something thats live inside you, you could be 80 and still be Hip hop LOL but my point is age doesn’t matter

You done yet, litte pee wee?

  • And…..(with 5 dots)

Now let’s see how many of these young rappers will be remembered after their “one-hit ringtone wonders” disappears? My bet… NONE!

  • BlackFriday

Jay is 39. Period. He was 26 when he came in the game in 96. That is a fact. In 02, he was rapping about being 32(“Young cause I’m 32,Spit like I’m 22,Dress like I’m 18,Do what I wanna do”). In 06, he was rapping about being 36.ie(“My age is a kilo”) Get off his d1ck already.

Once again you’re saying something so true!!!

When these peoples’ favorite artist come into town to do a show do they go? = NOPE

When their favorite artist from back in the day puts out a new record will they cop it? = NOPE, but will they’ll spend $12 for a drink at their bar though… SMH

Check this out… 2 years ago when Kanye dropped his “Graduation” Album he had a Album Release Concert to raise money for his Foundation that partners with the “Strong American Schools” Organization which is focused on helping Black and Latino students, etc…

This concert was in Chicago and since I happened to be in town for business/work I decided to go…

Do you know the audience was 95% white… I LIE TO YOU NOT!!! I was SHOCKED!!! ’cause this is Kanye’s Hometown and everything, all the proceeds were going to charity… And his OWN people weren’t there to show a ni@@a love and support… SMH, I’ll NEVER forget that… *The only thing was that the tickets were expensive (*over $80) but still the money was going to charity and this is a hometown artist and he got hits, not just 1 or 2 he had a few….

  • Plastic007

o people stop it … i will say 37 38 39 is kind of pushing it rocking Supras and adidas originals but early 30′s is cool when ur 30 and up ur money is extra right and u can indulge on the things u couldnt in ur 20′s 30-36 go off but at 37 38 39 you should b getting ur grown man on loose the sneaks and flashy jewels no rims be cool wit dont neeed to b an old man but dont be confusing the 20 y/o’s either .. find middle ground cus shortly u’ll b looking like the old men who b in clubs thinking they cool

I’m sorry FloRida has to be lying about his age he looks like he is pushing 40 just like Jay-Z and the others. His time line doesn’t even add up from his bio – he spent time in LA, in College, with Poe Boy, etc. He needs to fess up…

Yeah, take all those ages and add about 2 to 3 more to it for the correct AGE! Some of these rappers are in the 40′s. If they have a record you can easily look that up…its public access.

All I have to say is once I hit my late twenties, I will know for a fact that these RAPPERS aren’t in their thirties and have to be in their late 40′s.

    QUIT WITH THE BULLSHIT

  • Toxicity

This is a matter of simple basic math. Jay-Z is in in 40′s as well as P.Diddy. You can’t argue with numbers and wrinkles.

WELL IT MAKES SENSE, HIP HOP IS WHAT MY AGE GROUP GREW UP WITH- I REMEMBER WHEN SUGER HILL CAME OUT I WAS IN ELEMENTARY AND WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THIS KIND OF MUSIC WAS AND ITS THE BEST MUSIC OF OUR TIME, AND I HAPPEN TO THINK THE BEST RAPPERS ARE ON THAT LIST –THIS MUSIC IS OF MY GENERATION ITS WHAT I GREW UP WITH- ITS WHAT YOU YOUNGINS GREW UP WITH–NEXT DECADE ALL THESE RAPPERS WILL BE OVER 40–HOPEFULLY HIP HOP WILL EVOLUTIONIZE TO BE BETTER AND THE YOUNGER ONES HOPEFULLY CAN CHANGE UP THE GAME AND STYLE BUT THESE ONES ON THE LIST MADE IT WHAT IT IS TODAY.

  • Huh? (new on here but not 2 b confused with the other 1)

I can’t believe Scarface is only 38. He’s been rapping since the late 80′s and there is no way he was only 19 or 20 when the song “My Mind is Playing Tricks on Me”. If so he looked old back then. I think he’s at least 45. He’s still a great rapper though just old(er).

  • DR.FUNK

Lying about your age is JUSTIFIED.More than skin color…more than gender…more than political/religious leanings…more than level of education…people pass judgment on you based on AGE.

LOL and most of them still have the mentality of a 20 year old.

  • Huh?

    wishful thinking I guess…

Rap music is a prime example of “lowered expectations” and I compare it to the white man’s practice of creating xtreme sports b/c they are dominated by blacks in the major sports such as baseball, basketball or football.

In the 80’s rap began to grow only because it was a potential money making pursuit for people who were not blessed with the ability to sing. Years later we have a very profitable industry built around so called artists who cannot sing, write or play music. Instead they can now become rich by rhyming words to beats provided by others. I contend this artform is extremely lacking in talent except for the beat writers and producers.

The end result is a world were the beauty of song has suffered b/c the younger audience has convinced themselves that a guy standing in front of a mic reciting rhymes and cussin at everything that moves is their idea of the ultimate entertainment. Add the exploitation of the female body to the formula and you now have summed up rap music in its entirety.

God, please bless us with an artist who possesses the singing voice and talent of a Maxwell, Aretha, Luther, Donnie, JB, Whitney, Gladys, Cooke, Chaka, Womack or Michael (to name a few).

    wishful thinking I guess…

@Leeha-I AGREE WITH YOU TO AN EXTENT BUT IN ORDER FOR THAT TO HAPPEN PEOPLE HAVE TO START SUPPORTING THE ARTISTS AND STOP BOOTLEGGING AND ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING. EVERY TIME A GOOD ARTIST COMES OUT SUCH AS A Q-TIP FROM TRIBE CALLED QUEST AND MAKES GOOD QUALITY MUSIC (ADULT MUSIC) PEOPLE SLEEP ON IT AND DON’T GO OUT TO THE STORES OR BUY IT ON I-TUNES LIKE THEY SHOULD. THEN WHEN THEY HEAR IT THEY SAY STUFF LIKE “MAN CAN YOU DUB ME A COPY?” IF WE CONTINUE THAT TREND NO RECORD COMPANY WILL BE ABLE TO STAY IN BUSINESS AND RELEASE QUALITY PRODUCT-THAT’S THE REALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn’t matter how old they are. Some of the younger rappers today aren’t half as good as the older ones. People are still going to listen to their music, even if there’s an age difference. Music is music people.

Hip Hop music/rap is still relatively young compared to other types of music.

It’s still growing, so the artists are growing with it. Rap didn’t “start” in it’s current form until the late 70s or early 80s, so of course it never had older people promoting it until now.

Back before the 90s many artists were commonly in their 30s and 40s and still making hits. It really wasn’t until recent times with Rap and it’s younger artists that 30 would be looked at as old, but rap as a whole is getting older because the quality artists are.

As for the younger artists…when it comes to a party, you don’t always want serious thought provoking music. You want fun. Something like Soulja Boy or Stanky Leg is needed for that. But you do want to have some thought going on otherwise, which SOME of the people on this list can deliver. If it wasn’t for age they may not be able to do it.

    But I’m 25, 5 more years!

  • http://deleted John D. Hater

RAP WOULD BE A BETTER GENRE OF MUSIC IF MATURE RAPPERS WOULD EXPAND THEIR THOUGHTS!!!

LOOK AT ROCK MUSIC, NO REASON WHY RAP CAN’T BE THE SAME.

RAPPERS OF TODAY SOUND ALIKE AND MAKE ONE HIT AND THEN DONE.

NO MORE CLASSIC HITS BEING CREATED!!!

The only ones on this list I see as ‘still acting stupid’ is Einem, 50, Cam’ron and Fat Joe. Now I’m 32 so I grew up during the time where even these cats weren’t even out yet. I believe your music should reflect your maturity, some of us mature later than others. But for the most part, most of this list is compelled of people who’ve always acted their age, it’s only a few on here that are childish and idiotic (50 cent, Eminem, fat joe) to name a few, 50 actually embarrasses me as a black person he’s so stupid. Yes I will take these rappers anyday over the newer set, the youngins can have solja boy, and the people who made stanky leg, and most of the rest of them. Todays rap is just that, rap, not hip hop. The only ones under thirty that come close is T.I and….well I can’t think of another, ad I definitely would say lil wayne although he could make it, his ignorance holds him back. I still have albums by most of this list minus 50 cent, and I cna’t stand Rick Ross ignorant @ss, he’s another embarrassment,

  • STROKER

Who cares how old they are. They still have more loot than anybody on this site. There skills are better than any of these young cats out today.

  • Keisha2doll

It’s really bad when dudes start putting back their ages!! 99% of those birth years are way off and 99% of those rappers know that they look well over forty.

  • balaramesh

duh…. the only good rappers are over 30. what, i’d take a 35+ jay, nas, 3000, ect anyday over any rapper under 30. okay, there are maybe 3 or 4 good rappers under 30

  • balaramesh

“They need to pass the baton to the younger generation….share the wealth people!!”

right, tpain, lil wayne, boosie, hurricane chris, soulja boy, ect ect.

  • Ready Set Go

That just goes to show you the extent of the delayed maturity syndrome afflicting some males. Damn.

  • Neo-Geo

Rap is an art form like any other genre of music. Nobody in the rock community is telling Bruce Springstein not to make more music. Now I agree that when your 35, you subject matter should be more mature. I grew up on hip-hop (31 years old), and now there’s a new sub-genre of rap called Hip-Hop Adult Contemporary (Common, Jay-Z, Nas, etc.) As fans we tend to see them as celebrity types but and for most of them, this remains a job , a source of income. Imagine someone telling your 40-year mom she can’t work anymore cause she “too old”. Where would she provide for her family. Now the actions of some of these older rappers is a different story. But you can deny someone a check.

    @Pretty_MissM

I see your point but I’m gonna have to disagree with you on rap being a simplistic, repetitious form of poetry writing, and that the rappers over 30 have not evolved. As far as rap being simplistic, for the cats in question (the over 30 bunch) for the most part, nothing is further from the truth. These guys are lyrical geniuses, Talib Kweli is a beast, Eminem is a beast, Common is a Beast, MOS DEF is a Beast, KRS ONE is still a beast! Where you at? How can you say that those rhymes are simple. I can’t say the same for the new cats out today, those are simple rhymes! As for rappers over 30 not evolving, evolving to what? What do you want them to evolve to? Most of them rap about their lives growin up and even though their financial situations have changed the conditions that produced them still haven’t changed and a lot of them rap about change, it’s just that no one’s listenin. To keep it constructive though, you touched on a point that hasn’t been touched when you talked about musician’s from Earth Wind and Fire to Prince not getting dey respect do, but HipHop shouldn’t be compared to those forms of music other than the artists being of African descent.

  • Anthony

To those making comments about “growing up”, isn’t it time to take your own advice?

How many old comedians are there on TV? A ton. They act a fool even at 50.

It’s an act a JOB, a high paying job.

Most of these guys can comfortably retire at the end of their 30′s if not a little earlier.

Most of us will be working until 65-70 and die on social security.

If you take the ENTERTAINMENT business seriously YOU need to grow up.

50 made 150 million in one year, should he grow up and get a 9-5? Jesus…

Your families won’t see 150 million in 4 + generations.
