This young man was granted a visit to the White House and asked a simple enough question to our President; “Can he feel his hair, to see if it felt just like his?”
Barack Obama being elected President of the United States is a monumental occurrence for so many around the world.

6/4/09, 09:58:am
I’m tired of everyone thinking a little light skinned kid or light skinned woman is mixed. Both of my parents are black (light skinned) every time I go somewhere I get tired of people asking me if I’m mixed with Latina,Indian,or Asian because of my light bronze skin tone and my long beautiful curly hair. But when I wear is straight it’s bouncy stringy. Black on black can create all Exotic skin Tones and Exotic Hair Textures.
It just seems the black women always turn out exotic looking and the black men just look black that’s just the way God had it planned.
Yes my family is blessed with great black genes and so are other black families. Black on Black are the only ones with the Dominant Gene so therefore we can created all skin tones.

@Nik, I disagree. The failure of “our children” goes all the way back the generation born in the 1930’s and it’s been p*****ed on and on from there (even Bill Cosby admitted this fact). Those of us who don’t have any children haven’t failed. Blame it on generations from before. However, don’t use that as an excuse.

My 2 cents:
There comes a time where you begin to know between right and wrong. Generations adapt. (or they should anyway) Many of our grandparents and thier parents didn’t and couldn’t see things from a different perspective because that’s all they knew. Today you should know better. There are so many walks of life now that a “tunnel vision” view on life just isn’t acceptable. If you create a narrow minded child there’s no one else to blame but yourself. And for the people that don’t have children don’t count yourself out because you also have a job to do. Just because you don’t have children yet, doesn’t mean you can’t spread a positive word and outlook to a child

…………………………………………..
My2cents Response: No offensive but this is bull*****. Our grandparents should have known that movies like SUPERFLY and such were a black man is playing a pimp and drug dealer would have some effect on later generations. THEY KNEW BETTER TOO. THEY HAD GOOD SENSE…THEY JUST DIDN’T USE IT.
…………………………………
Today you should know better. There are so many walks of life now that a “tunnel vision” view on life just isn’t acceptable. ………………………………………..
My2Cents Response: A child’s primary outlook on life comes from his/her PARENTS and his/her PEERS. Tired of *****ed up black kids? Stop having them in single parent homes and out of wedlock. It’s real simple, people shouldn’t have children until they are able to provide for them emotionally and physically.

…………………………………….
When I mentioned the 1930’s generation I MEANT THE BLACK PEOPLE BORN IN THE 1930’s (BILL COSBY’s generation). Again I think this is bull*****. Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor and all these other old black folks were starring in movies such as Superfly, The Mack, etc. Those movies were what Menace II Society is today. They set the pattern of how black people act today. Snoop Dogg and others took on persona, THE PIMP, from their 1970’s films. That shows what affect their films had on generations AFTER them.
Also, this was the generation that started the OUT OF WEDLOCK children, and the father leaving the household.
NIK
6/4/09, 11:39:am
My 2 Cents:
We are going to base our behaviors on SUPERFLY??? Yeah they SHOULD have known better but they didn’t. A lot of people in the past didn’t know better about a lot of things? But WE DO.
The second response: That’s my point! the primary outlook on children is the parents. We have failed them in our OWN HOME. NOT the past generations. No one else is to blame but US. And I WAY dissagree with the single parent homes and the wedlock problem. I know many men and women who grew up in single parent homes and they were better off. Living in a single parent home doesn’t automatically mean your ruined??? That’s not a fair statement at all. And the wedlock issue? You have to be married to be a successful parent? That’s ludacris. No disrespect but I wonder what generation you come from? If you don’t mind how old are you? There is a 50% divorce rate. What good does that do our children?

And if you chose a path leading to wanting to become a “pimp” or “thug” etc…. then that’s the path you chose? Did they become a Doctor like Bill Cosby? or a business man like Mr. Jefferson? or a comedian like Red Fox? NO.

……………………………………….
My2Cents Response:Yes, black folks based their behaviors around what they saw in black movies THEN AND NOW. If you have any doubt go out and pick up a copy of Nathan McNall’s Makes Me Wanna Holler where he speaks about growing up in the 1960’s and 1970’s and how he grew to look up to SUPERFLY and Men like him. My point was to say that YES, THE GENERATIONS BEFORE THIS ONE *****ED UP AND SET THE PATTERN. You want to give them a pat on the back and say they didn’t know any better which I think is COMPLETE BULL*****. Bill Cosby even said his generation *****ED UP! They set the standard for the *****ed up generations of black people YOU see today. They knew damn well that selling drugs and becoming pimps WAS WRONG. Yes, THEY KNEW BETTER.
……………………………………..

My2Cents Response: Again this is bull*****. Who the hell taught this generation how to be ***** ups???? THEIR PARENTS. Who taught their parents how to be ***** ups??? THEIR PARENTS. This is something that just popped up IN ONE HOME. It’s been p*****ed down from generation to generation and it all started with those born in 1930’s.
Single parent homes ARE A PROBLEM. I don’t care what anyone says. I grew up with both my mom and dad. If you look at my cousins who grew up without their father you can TELL A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ME AND THEM. They themselves are bringing more fatherless children into this world. It’s being p*****ed from generation to generation.
For you to say that parents are responsible for the Primary outlook of children but then excuse single parents homes is TELLING.

(Flip Wilson Show, Red Skelton Show, Good Times, The Jeffersons) so don’t tell me our black people were “signified” by just those negative undertoned shows. Thats ridiculous. And if you chose a path leading to wanting to become a “pimp” or “thug” etc…. then that’s the path you chose? Did they become a Doctor like Bill Cosby? or a business man like Mr. Jefferson? or a comedian like Red Fox? NO.
…………………………………………
When the hell have the positive black images ever been outdone by the negative images out at the time???? Superfly was a HIT MOVIE. Just as MADEA is a HIT TODAY. Many consider flip Wilson, Good Times, etc POOR rep of black folks. These show had black people clowning in the worst way and living in the projects. I suggest you pick up a copy of the film BAMBOOZLED by Spike Lee.

This picture is so amazing. A child touching a grown ups head. Its so deep. Its almost as if the child said, can I touch your head and the man said, yes. Yes you can touch my head. It just gives me chills just thinking about it. And to think of all the heads I wanted to touch as a child, but was to afraid to ask:

If you grew up with two parents in the home I commend your parents, that’s just great. Today you have more single parents than you do anything else. Famous people are doing it, poor people are doing it, rich people are doing it. That is never going to go away. It’s up to the parent that takes care of their children to be BOTH parents. I am a damn good mother AND father for my daughter, because that’s MY job. That’s what I chose. It’s MY responsibility to raise my child. NOT the television and the influences of others. If I don’t succeed ONLY I have failed her. The children in her school and in our community aren’t “better” or going to be a “better” person because they have both parents in the home? IT’S UP TO THE PARENTS and the adults that surround these children in thier everyday lives to make a difference.

I guess my whole point is, is that if you let television influence your child in a way so that THAT child wants to become a pimp ect… someone has FAILED in that household. period

@Caramel Cat,
I admit that single parent homes do yield some successful people, but I’m still not convince that it is okay. It should not be accepted as the norm and people need to stop saying it’s okay because it’s not. It’s been proven that children growing up with BOTH parents are far higher achievers and tend to be more successful in life. I’m not saying that’s always the case, but until the results are switched and children from single parent homes are doing better than those from two parents home I’m sticking with the idea that single parents are a PROBLEM with black folks.
@ Nik
My daughter right now is into shows like Hannah Montana, and disney shows. Not everything in those shows betray a realistic outlook on life. Its up to ME as her SINGLE PARENT (by the way) to give her that realistic outlook. It’s up to ME to keep her leveled headed. It’s up to ME to make sure she keeps on the right track. If I don’t, only I have failed her. I can’t blame anyone else but ME
……………………………………….
My2cents response:This is true however, I’m not speaking of just one set of black people. I’m saying generations before have failed therefore this generation is failing. You can’t teach what you didn’t learn. If grandma taught her daughter that it was okay to allow a man to belittle her…daughter is going to think it’s okay too and p***** it on to her daughter. Thus you have a whole *****ed up generation.
NIK

@My2Cents
Oh don’t get me wrong, I agree with you and I want my children to grow up in a two parent household as did my own parents (divorce is never in the plan), but my point is LIFE happens and regardless of cir*****stances and/or what’s on the television we have a responsibility to our children to bring them up to the best of our ability. My mother was hard working and sacrificed for my best interest and I was kept on the right path because of HER strong arm of guidance. Mr. Obama came from a single parent setting and look where he is. No, it should not necessarily be looked at as ‘ok’ or ‘the norm’ but it also should not be dismissed as an ineffective method of raising a successful and positive child that contributes to society…

…………………………………………..
I’m sorry but if you can’t see that PAST GENERATIONS do in fact hold a great deal of responsibility in the plight of black people I don’t know what to say to you. Once again….a black mother or father can’t teach what was NEVER handed down to him or her. This has been going on for decades and it’s continuing to produce *****ed up black people.
As you stated you chose to be a single parent (why? Is the only question going through my mind. No one should chose to play mom and dad). However, you’re able to do for your daughter because you stated you had TWO parents that showed you how it’s done. Everyone doesn’t have that. So, if mom is *****ed up and telling daughter that it’s okay to be *****ed up…what do you think daughter is going to grow up believing? Is daughter to be blamed for her ignorance? IMO NO because she NEVER learned from her mother. That’s the problem black people are having. How can they be asked to take responsibility for something that was never p*****ed to them?
This generation didn’t drop the ball. They never received the damn ball from generations before.

……………………………………….
My2Cents Response: You can’t say that you choose the right path in life despite your ***** poor role models of parents because YOU CHOOSE THE WRONG MAN. If you truly had it together you would have chosen a better man to lay down with and father your child. No, you didn’t choose to be a single parent…you chose to be with the wrong damn man therefore you BECAME a single parent.
……………………………………………
I think the biggest reason of my debate with you is when you say “that’s ALL they know” I think is BS. When you grow up in a F!@#$ up home that’s not all you know? You go to school, have friends, see how others lives are. You at some point see what’s right and wrong. You experience other outlets in life other than JUST what’s in the home.
………………………………………….
So, you grew up in a single parent home (your father died when you were young) and your mother was an alcoholic. You grew up and chose the WRONG DAMN MAN. Had you grew up with two parent who were upstanding I doubt you would have fallen for that man and I doubt you would be a single parent. We’ve already stated that our parents are responsible for our PRIMARY outlook on life (along with our peers). Had you seen a mother who was a good picker of men you would have taken on that behavior in picking a man to lay with.
……………………………………..
You said it’s not ok to consider a single parent home “ok” or the “norm” It IS ok sometimes and it’s NOT ok sometimes. Just like having a two parent home isn’t always ok either. Whether it be from one parent leaving or divorce. Whether we like it or not.
……………………………………………
My2Cents Response: The problem is no one should embrace it as the norm (which you seem to have done). If you say to yourself I’m not having any children until I’m married then that will be the case. You do realize that out of wedlock children are a major problem in relations between black men and women right? A great number of men don’t want to raise another man’s children. Thus, that single mother has a good chance of BEING ALONE (not to say that’s always the case). If people waited to have children the marriage rate between men and women would go up and single parent homes would slowly decrease. Men also won’t buy the cow when they can get the milk for free. If women demanded to the wives instead of babymamas this would also change the single parent bull***** in the black community. I will never say it’s okay to be raised by one parent.

Yes, I’ve broken a lot of promises. More than I care to think about actually.
I don’t mind the promises that all of these presidents make and break. Cause that’s just being human. The biggest deal here is that this man is NOT someone that represents the best interests for our people. He is disengenuous and two-faced. He is an opportunist that has DENIED being black and Muslim when it suits him and now is USING it to garner public popularity. I feel sad when I see lots of good hearted Black folks talk this man up when he basically has denied himself and us. The reverse is that if he can send the message that it’s okay for people to shoot for the dreams…cool.
And don’t even get me started on his Middle East policies. Man, talk to some of the Soldiers. About the best move he made was not publishing those Abuse pics. THAT was a move I admired, protecting OUR AND HIS soldiers as Commander in Chief.
Anyways, sorry all that is so long ;D

Black t.v. shows like Good Times, Jeffersons , Flip Wilson were not positive shows. Good Times, were ghetto and coonery, baffoonery at its best. They sat around disrespecting each other, the mama was over dramatic. Every chance they got to leave the ghetto, those ignorant baffoons found a reason to stay. When Florence brother gave her enough money to leave the ghetto, she and her kids, the mama gave him the money back so he could live, not realizing that she could have moved him with the family. The actor that played the father James, left because he said he was sick of the Florence character. And Flip Wilson, how is it positive to see a grown man in a dress. Watching a black man or any man demasculated is something I am not interested in watching. Even Madea gets on my nerves. And Jeffersons, the husband walked like a baffoon, and the maid and Jefferson were always *****g each other. And Cosby had his coon moments too, always having Claire, roll her head and eyes setting somebody off. For the life of me, why is it that every black show even the Cosby’s must have dancing and singing. Not every black person sing and dance.

I agree that he sometimes is too eager to appear humble, but in this instance, I find it very endearing.
I did not like the image of him bowing to a Saudi King, either (particularly, when the Saudi’s themselves said it was not customary, and in fact, frowned upon for religious reasons). But I will give him a break. The government of the U.S. has been so out-of-touch with the people for so long, I think he is trying to disenfranchised people know that they can “reach” and achieve.

GREAT.
Its 2009. We have Biracial African American Family In the WHITE HOUSE.
Can we PLEASE stop calling ourselves NIG***???
PLEASE. Substitute it with Brother, or man, or friend or anything other than the Word of oppression and Familial destruction heaped upon our forefathers and their forefathers. Its time for the NEW. Emulate The leader of the free world and TEACH other people how to treat us.

That little boy got something that I as a 47 year old man never had when I was his age, there is a president that looks like ME, his hair, skin color, place where I grew up everything.

This is why I love Obama . . . With all the negative citizens in the black community he is like a beacon of hope and he’s raising two black women who i’m sure won’t be having babies in highschool, doing nothing but spreading stds, and actually know some words in the dictionary so when someone talks to them they don’t have to dumb things down. And he’s definitely hope – no more excuses for why you can’t do something.

funny, how he wanted to connect with the President through hair. Hair is what identifies us-imagine if Barack wore a perm. Lets go natural people and show the world we are proud of our God-given, uniquely different crown of HAIR…

Another thing I wish all black people would stop acting like he’s “our” president. He is the president of the United States of America. That is his concern. The whole country. Not your hood, not your job status, but the good of the whole entire country.

Personally, when I say President Obama is “our President” I am saying “our’ as in our country’s President. Please don’t *****ume that just because a black person says “our president” they are excluding other races. I think that says a lot about you to make that *****umption…… just sayin’

That is awesome! I love The President. I love the pride he has in himself and his people, MY people. I love his love for his wife and children. I love the pride that President Obama has given so many African American children. If the President does nothing else but have the OBAMA EFFECT, (men have claimed that they’ve been inspired to marry their “baby mamas” in several cases) then his be will be done as far as I concerned!!!

First, let me say that I am not black, so I cannot begin to understand all of the implications of this picture for African Americans. But I imagine that seeing someone who looks like you as the most powerful man in the world, is a revelation.
For so long, the leaders of the world have looked like me. Old and white. So it was easy for me to tell my children that they could do or be anything they wanted. I also imagine that when a black parent said that to a child, in the back of their mind there had to be the thought “if only the white guys on top would just move out of the way.”
Barack Obama moved them out of the way without pushing, but by succeeding, no violence, just excellence. He is an example not only to people of color but to all. Here is a man who is in power because he deserves it.
