MISSION VIEJO – A soccer coach posted bond early this morning after he was arrested on suspicion of having sex with an underage girl, authorities said. David Hernandez, a 28-year-old man from Anaheim, was taken into custody at a park Tuesday at about 11:30 a.m. on suspicion of having sex with a girl he was privately coaching in Mission Viejo, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. For about four years, Hernandez has been coaching teams at Mission Viejo Soccer Club, Amormino said. The players range in ages from 9 to 17 years old, and in light of the current case, investigators are looking at the possibility that there may be more victims.
Hernandez also gave private lessons, Amormino said. Investigators became aware of the case when they were notified by the parents, Amormino said. The girl, who was involved in youth soccer in Mission Viejo but was not a part of any of the teams Hernandez coached, told her parents of the sexual relationship. The girl was taking private lessons from Hernandez and the relationship took place late last year, Amormino said. The girl’s age was not released, but she was described as being between 14 and 17 years old. Hernandez was booked on suspicion of having unlawful sex with a minor, Amormino said. “It’s disgusting we keep hearing of stories like this, where someone in a position of trust violates the trust,” he said.
