The problem in our community is many parents are not doing their jobs and you have kids idolizing rappers and sports stars. There is too much focus on bling and cars and not enough focus on education and investing. The problem is, kids don’t know or care that T-Pain is saving and investing. When he stops making hits, those bills will still exsist. This is why entertainers and professional athletes end up broke, because they think the money will still come as it once did. He also hasn’t mentioned any money given to charity. (To whom much is given, much is expected)

Guidance because I want kids to know that there is money out there to go to college and that you don’t have to have a 4.0 to get a scholarship or grants.

The program also matches you up with high school freshmen to guide them through school, I have 5 boys i mentor in that regard. Also am a consistent member of junior achievement every semester. Outside of the, a few volunteer efforts here and there. Bright Beginnings with the YMCA etc.

as I posted earlier, I am in good relations with my congresswoman through my constant writing to her about the issues that plague my neighborhood and the neighborhoods my family calls home. In NYC they have open meetings for the public where they discuss changes that they do around the city I attend the one’s that affects the neighborhood I live in. I clean up my area, because personally I don’t like dirty environments and I don’t like children living in dirty environements

@elle- You make it seem like it’s so hard to do something for your community. You ask the question about what people do for their community as if it takes great effort. For people who actually do something for their community everyday know that it’s effortless. . .it’s like breathing. It’s part of our lives. Furthermore, you fail to realize that some people work for their community through their careers. All people don’t work at huge corporations; some of us work at non-profits.

And I’m sorry, writing a letter to a congressperson doesn’t mean anything and it does nothing. Have you even visited a congressperson’s or senator’s office? If you have, you would know that they don’t even read all of the mail they receive. They have correspondence secretaries for that. Your single letter means nothing. Instead of writing a letter to your congressperson ABOUT your community, why don’t you do something FOR your community. You don’t need a congressperson to give you permission to mobilize your community.

@Slide-I think its hormonal: sometimes I just don’t sleep. For a change, it was not due to stress or man-problems: however my wheels are always turning, as I am a heavy thinker.

What do I think of T-Pain? I think he’s a FOOL, lol. I do earn a good salary, yes. But I live a very low-key existence. Folks don’t know unless I tell them, or they work in my industry so of course they have an idea of my salary range.
I was just discussing this whole issue with a smart dude yesterday: I expect my salary to grow substantially very soon.

That does not mean that I need to go out and buy any and every thing. I don’t even drive a new car: I didn’t always make what is considered ‘good’ money, so I am very humble. Now granted, I admit to being a shop-a-holic and having alot of ‘things’. I’ve been told that I seem bougier at first-glance. Ok-whatev…but my focus is more on saving and investing, and planning for the future, especially in this economy. For T-Pain to own 32 cars is insane…that chain is DUMB. Period.

Yeah, i feel ya. I’ll admit that my purchase was a very well equipped laptop (I love macs). After saving up for it, I figured, why not. I’ve sacrificed other stuff. I believe in the “pay yourself first” practice. Everytime i get some money, a percentage goes straight to some sort of investment (whether its my IRA, rainy day fund, stock bond, whatever). Then another percentage, about half of my investment amount, goes into an entertainment fund. This is for going out, maybe a nice dinner, or I put it away to save for something I want but later (that’s wwhere the laptop came from). I think it all depnds on how you set yourself up from what you can do.

Lol i think some people are just playing or dont know the business, cars depreciate in value the moment you drive off the lot. Certain cars such Sport Utility and non fuel efficient cars right now are low in value due to current market conditions ( I know just tried to sell my Tahoe).

Rims, Customization, Stereo may add some value to the car but depends on the vehicle , modifications and other conditions. I.E. no one in their right mind would spend 4,000 on customized Kia Sorento unless they are really that much of a fool. Especially in the private seller market that may mean something but most dealers when you are looking for a trade in or to sell you car could really care less about the customization and may give you a slight difference on the estimated value of the vehicle…
