Why do African Americans’ always have to be so sensitive about racial issues when its not an African American making the joke. For everyone discussing immigration with the assumption that these two kids are Mexican is just ignorant. There are black people who immigrate to America everyday, and black Latinos as well, IE: Dominicans, Haitians, Hondurans, and Panamanians. I’m tired of every racial joke turning into a heated racial debate. It’s just comedy, grow up.

This just goes to show that black women need to do a better job at naming their children. Do you even think about them going out into the work force and a possible employer can’t even begin to pronounce your child’s name? Or how about the perspective employer who takes one look at the name on the application and simply THROWS IT AWAY because they automatically assume that your child is some ghetto bama and they don’t want that in their company?

We have it hard enough as it is just being BLACK. Why add to the hardships by naming our children these ugly, ghetto names that are hard to spell let alone pronounce?

I am a black woman with a regular, run of the mill name, a sense of humor, and I found this offensive.

When other minorities are willing to engage in stereotypical satire at black people’s expense we as a people need to wake up and take note.

People have a right to name their children what they choose, but remember that with that right also comes a responsibility. It is well known that many of these names lead to difficulties in school and landing a decent job.

It was a spoof… but I must say I’m glad my mom gave me a decent name. Some of the “unique” names need to stop. Make sure you children names have meaning or even biblical. Not just a funny sound. That goes for every race!

The “Title” should be “Foodstamps Names” or the 3-strikes against a successful outcome of life names. I tried hard to give my kids energetic, neutral names where their future employers would give their application a fair chance of making into the interview round. Unfortunately, the black names that are often on welfare or in jail have names like…these are facts people. These names are simply a reflection of oftentimes poor and uneducated people from the rural area of the south or inner city ghettos. The first thing that comes to the mind of an interviewer for an employer for a company with income reflecting Middle to Upperclass standards…is this applicant will probably not fit well in this company because… Come on people…each one…teach one! Break the cycle of stereotypical ghetto names and lift our children up and give them a chance in life.

Trick, please my husband and i named our only daughter Diamond because its a precious jewel her middle name is Kiara it is swahili and means to make a difference. Throughout her life we have seen black,and white men, women with the name Diamond that are much older than our daughter. Names are a personal choice it describes her personality to a hilt.
