@Coop

Andre Harell has quietly been on his grind. Thats what he's been doing since the Uptown days. The last I heard he is still working with Puff(Diddy) at Bad Boy on a consulting basis. Dude is partly responsible for getting Robin Thicke his deal with Interscope and advising artists and executives in A&R. He is also involved with other non-music related ventures.

I think Andre Harell would be good for the job at Def Jam cause he's been in the game for a LONG ass time and has worked on the executive level before. Therefore he has had experience in running a company. And almost no one knows the business better than him.

Currently there are not many QUALIFIED people to run Def Jam. And I am hearing that has alot to do with why they haven't appointed a new Pres and CEO yet.

The thing with Jay, Dame and Kareem is that all three came together to create their own company. Jay was not offered a contract with Def Jam in the beginning they didn't want to sign him.

The thing I think you are missing is that signing to a major record company is a corporate business relationship. Not some street hustle shit. Artists can't just make albums whenever they feel like it. Budgets must be approved by the label before a new album is even considered.

And sure most labels are in a trouble but from the stories out about Def Jam, Jay and others did a horrible job managing the company, including how money was spent.

Dame has even said that after Jay’s second album that Jay handled most of his on business.

@ COOP...I am glad he did because neither Reasonable Doubt nor Vol. 1 were promoted well. That is why they re-released Reasonable Doubt in 98 or 99.

Maybe if any of the artists had material that was worth pushing then there would be no problem. The problem is that very few of the artists out there know how to make a hit on thier own. They have to depend on a "collabo". If the material is good then the album will literally push itself. The unfortunate thing of Hov is that at his worth he is better than some peoples best effort.
