I can’t help but think back to when I heard Dave Chappelle on a talk radio show, explaining why he left the show after the $50 mil contract. He began to talk of how the “studios” wanted to make him do things that he did not want to do; whether in movies or what have you.
He talked about all the roles he turned down because they always wanted to put him in a dress and makeup. He refused. He went on to talk about all the success of major Black male stars that did so (Martin, Tyler Perry, Ving Rames, Chris Tucker, etc).. He says that the Hollywood establishment (he believes) is infatuated with the immasculation of the Black male.
Is Cee-lo just another one of the brothas taking the plunge to achieve/maintain success? I wonder..

Leave Ceelo the hell alone…it’s not about emasculating Black men…it’s not even close to being that deep. Everyone has their own style. You have eccentric types like Erykah and Andre 3000 and the more cl*****ic types like MJB and Alicia Keys. It seems like when people want to deviate from the norm, there’s always some deep, underlying reason that’s related to racism/sexism involved. Maybe Ceelo’s just crazy, like me.
