Rihanna’s dad speaks about the time he was caught smoking rocks among other things:

“I turned and looked Rihanna in the eye and instantly came back down from the high I was on. I saw her run for her mother, ask her something and then they both started to cry. I had no idea she had been watching. It was the lowest point – life just stopped and I realized what a fool I had been.”

When the Sunday Mirror tracked down the father-of-five in Bridgetown, Barbados, he was hawking tacky toys, perfume and household items from the boot of a battered Nissan car. Despite his daughter’s millions, he never asks for a penny and insists he’s happy in his work, which earns him around £250 (about $492 US dollars) for a seven-day week. He said: “The only thing I want is to be a part of her life. I have had her forgiveness, which you can’t put a price on, and I would never dream of asking her for a dollar.”

We’re glad he has gotten his life together, and doesn’t try to cake his daughter out of her dough like some parents do.  Ain’t nothing wrong with pushing random toys and trinkets out of the trunk of a Nissan.  At least it’s honest work.

I thought it was extra special that she took him to the Grammy Awards. I wish them luck in building their relationship.

  • NIKKI UNDERWOOD-WASHINGTON

LOL @ the Trinkets…that word is always funny to me

  • yellow valley

good for her, more fathers should do the turn around such as he

  • Darth Paul

The man has integrity, which is more than most men have these days.

  • Barbados Crack Dealer

He’ll be back. They always come back. He was my most reliable client. Once he gets in good with his big head daughter, she’ll gladly hit him off with enough dough to buy a years worth of crack. And I’ll be set for life.

  • Jubeisan

Well, one can certainly see where she got the forehead from.

  • getyourhandouttamypocket

    Damn, 492 dollars a week…not a bad hustle. LMAO

It’s cool that he is dignified enough to not beg his daughter for money and do his own thang.

  • Vikki

wow her father is making a pretty decent living from being a vendor.

  • Vikki

its good to see that he made a change in his life and is no longer a crackhead.

  • bajan

    barbados in the building.

i am glad he turned his life around, and not beggin rihanna fuh money like other parents, if he likes selling clothes, etc, why should he stop cause rihanna got money? he is independent and rihanna is independent.

I’m glad that he was able to turn his life around and make a mends with his daughter. I hope he has done the same thing with his other children. Crack is Wack!!

  • http://text-support.com Scooby Dubious

Man, hustling junk out of a pickup in Barbados looks a whole hell of a lot better than doing your hustle from a cubicle in Manhattan in February. This guy’s all right.

That’s a great story – too bad most people won’t appreciate it. You don’t fond too many people with that much integrity, perioad, let alone a recovering addict.

Much love and props to dad!

  • I’m Just Me

glad he is off the rocks…that is never any good for anyone and very respectable that he doesn’t ask for her money and stuff. he still has pride. there are so many other parents who just take bank out of the kids bank rolls. Can we say Britney Spears parents!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/mistikay GreenEyedDiva

Good for him, he isnt trying to just ride his daughters coat tails and is just making an honest living now.

  • JaliliMaster

I like RiRi more and more each day.

  • memchee

    wow…a man wit a solid backbone….

  • VeeZee

One thing for sure…she ain’t got no money. At least not no “REAL” money. She has to pay back all those pr people that got her face plastered all over the place. Then she’ll see a pay day.

  • Just Sit And Be Pretty

Good for him. With the exchange rate, if it’s $492 US, it’s about twice that in Bajan dollars.

  • My father wouldn’t NEED to ask

There is NO way he wasn’t sharing in my WEALTH and success.

Maybe she does help her Dad out a bit but maybe he takes pride in actually working rather than sitting on his a$$.

  • She Otta Do Somtin

He’s solid for keepin his head up and for doin what he doin and not askin for nuttin ….but at the end of the day thats her pops she should do somtin for him either if its a bigger car to move his food from or a phat crib in Barbados where he can retire….all im sayin is she cant turn her back juss cuz of his past …especially now when hes off that crap

  • Celebrity CSI

Rihanna’s father should be ashamed of himself. If he wasn’t looking for some kind of hand me out or publicity, he would have KEPT his trap closed about his crack addiction or whatever. Some things are just better left UNSAID!! The whole world does not need to know everything about you. Period. And what’s up listing his piss poor salary and that type of car he drives? Please GET SOMEWHERE…& sit down! lol

  • Celebrity CSI

Also, if you weren’t a parent when it mattered most, don’t come scrambling out of the closet because of the money!! He’d still be driving that 91 hooptie in the year 2012 … ALready!!

  • Sabako

My father wouldn’t NEED to ask

  • Bonifant

CSI she had already made it known in one of her mag interviews that her dad was a past addict. She didn’t go into full detail because they as father and daughter hadn’t hashed everything out yet and she would be embarassed about talking about it since they hadn’t resolved everything between them.

Its good to know they have a relationship now, a girl needs that with her father and its great he realized that he needed to stop drugs to do that.

Now back to the gossip they say he has 5 kids so that means Ri Rih has 2 half-siblings cuz she always mentions her 2 full brothers who are younger. So did her dad have 2 rock babies with random females when he was separated from Rih’s mom? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ;)

  • Lili

Good for him and everything, but damn, why did they track her dad down like that??? What an invasion of privacy. He can’t sell his goods in peace?

  • tj

Don’t fall for it Rhi once an addict always an addict. Tell it to the drug counselor. “My high came down immediately” right up until you puffed in some more crack. GTFOH

  • lovely

She should give him some dam money! That’s her daddy! He took care of her big headed ass didn’t he? It only says that she saw him smoking dope it don’t say that he left her and wasn’t in her life. When people come into wealth, they need to take care of their dam parents or whoever took care of their trifling behinds!!!!!!!!!

  • brownsuga

My parents would not have to ask me a single penny. If I had the money my parents would have it too. They raised me. If I am driving a mercedes so would my mom and dad.

  • ewok

i would still give dude some change….but maybe that’s good….a crack head with millions to spare? i don’t know, mayne!

My dad is a smoker too, and he ain’t never done jack for me. Yet he is the first one to holla about “that’s my baby, she graduated college, she got a good job etc.” like he contributed to it. All the while asking for a handout. I ain’t giving him jack! Never smoke up my dough.

  • Wenzel Dashington

    The opposite of Daddy Creole.

  • You Know

I thought she said her father was white? Her father is as white as my dad. Black! He may be part white, but he’s not white. And now he want’s to be a part of her life? Where was he before? oh right?! Getting high!

  • http://toydogdomain.com MissDiva

Her father just wants to embarrass her! I bet anything that the magazine did not track him down. He tracked them down for a quick buck and a story to make his daughter embarrassed enough to get some cash out of her… Don’t be fooled by this story.

  • HOTSTUFF

    She favors her Dad

  • Chillin @ Work

I didn’t think Jay was rude- I believe people took it all wrong- It looked like he was adding humor-

  • MCW

hmmm. I think its kinda rude that she doesnt at least give him something. He shouldnt have to ask for anything.. but selling toys out of his nissan? Maybe she’s scared he’ll relapse.

  • One Drop Rule

Always if you can be a “credit” to another race then the One Drop Rule does not (I repeat, does not) apply to people with a black race mix. If you are not famous or a politician and are mixed then the “One Drop Rule” applies to people with a black race mix.

    Why is that?

  • The Mars Volta

IS IT JUST ME OR DOES HER FATHER NOT LOOK FULLY WHITE…

  • sammie sam

for real her father look white pure white no black nothing …

i think her father is gonna ask her for money some day the all do
