Jay Z Forgets That He Owns TIDAL During Copyright Infringement Trial

“All rhymers, forget it like Alzheimer’s” was once one of Jay Z‘s wittiest lines, now it serves as more evidence that art often imitates life.

In case you hadn’t heard, Shawn Carter is currently in the midst of a legal dispute over one of his biggest hits, “Big Pimpin'”. The party banger is said to contain a sample of another song composed by Egyptian musician Baligh Hamdi called “Khosara Khosara” without permission.

As the trial continued Wednesday, Jay took the stand to testify and his lawyer began by asking him about his various business endeavors.

Here’s what Mr. Z said according to PageSix:

“I make music. I’m a rapper. I’ve got a clothing line. I run a label . . . Roc Nation, with a sports agency, music publishing and management . . . restaurants and nightclubs. I think that about covers it.” When Bart reminded him, “You have a music-streaming service, don’t you?”

Jay admitted of the service, Tidal, “Yeah, yeah. Forgot about that.”

We understand, Mr. Z, a vast majority of us have forgotten about TIDAL as well, or if we haven’t, we wish we could.

Maybe he only remembers the businesses that are actually successful…
