Yesterday’s horrific train crash shocked the nation as news circulated about the death toll. The unfortunate accident was one of the worse in recent years. Investigators are still working to see if there are more victims or survivors in the wreckage. Pop the hood for more

MY FRIEND WAS SAYING IN D.C. HOW HE WAS ABOUT TO GET ON THAT PLANE TO GO TO WORK AND HOW HE CALLED IN AT THE LAST MINUTE TO STAY HOME BECAUSE HE DIDN’T FEEL SO WELL.

MAN, GOD IS SO GOOD! SOMETIMES WE DON’T KNOW WHY HE ALLOWS THINGS TO HAPPEN BUT IT’S ALL FOR A REASON. WHAT A TESTIMONY!

MAY THE FAMILIES WHO LOST LOVED ONES BE COMFORTED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD.

  • http://... LATEEF

Everytime I visit family in Rockville,MD and we go out, I always complain about the METRO. It’s me being afraid to go underground. It stopped on us one time and another time someone had jumped in front of a train???

I am still waiting to hear how my sister is doing. One on the train and the other in Bagram, Afghanistan.

I’m trying not to be in tears or scream at anyone.

  • Shawne08

I could have easily been on that train, but thank you lord I am in Boston on business. God bless the friends and families of those who were in the accident.

  • Shawne08

    @Babygirl

  • Shawne08

    @Babygirl,
Actually, they have confirmed 9 are dead. This body count may rise as they are still having trouble getting into the smashed part of the train. I hope and pray no one else is dead, but that is not likely to be the case.

The Red line is the first subway line built in the DC metro system. It is plagued with problems due to the sheer age of that line. Some locals call it the “Bloody Red Line” because of all of the traffic, technical issues and suicides on that line, but this incident has shocked everyine here. Mayor Fenty had a press conference this AM. Needless to say, the morning commute was messed up. My prayers go out to the families.

  • MAYBE I’M YOUR BABY MAMA !!!

    The bodie count is rising.
I live in DC and yesterday there was total confusion from people not getting on the subway.

I pray for those hurt or killed.

  • MAYBE I’M YOUR BABY MAMA !!!

    @ MrsT_n_DC

I cannot understand why so many chose the redline to kill themselves !!??
It was just two last weekend, both at Bethesda.

  • ME

I was just about to start to use the metro again, however, I use the blue and green line instead of the red, but still…..its sad and I pray that God is with these people and that he helps them through this terible time.

  • kimllaa

This is another sad incident for Metro.. my prayers go out to the families.

  • Adrienne

  • O, No You Didn’t

    @ SoulWoman
I heard that same thing yesterday!!! I have a friend of the family that works for Metro and they said the same thing about it wasn’t the drivers fault but a communication problem. My peoples even said that they knew the woman train operator who was killed and that she had just got out of the operator training program (don’t quote me on the exact name of the program)like 6 months ago. I hope the REAL TRUTH comes out and that these people ant their families can get some closure!!!

well everyone had a near death experience or lucked out by not catching the train but Dc is a lot better than most tains in other cities I have been in and they’re ran on a electric line which although the trains are dated they are still modern in comparison to the other cities. Looks like they will be expanding with the lines to Tyson’s and to all of Maryland (purple line proposed) maybe this will help the traffic and besides I know a lot of people who work or metro that get twisted after work, during work and are jst plain slow (not smart) so maybe if they screened candidates more rather than just hiring Anyone it’d be safer but then again I drive everywhere there’s too many Unks and Auntee’s on the trains for me and people who think less of me (since im black) to sit near me.

  • WIFEY06

Dc metro is one of the best systems in the world but dag they have had how many accidents in the past 3 years.

The thingIhate about the mtero in Dc is if you are underground you are left with no options. Underground. they do not open the doors to oet you out so youcan havean alternate route. ihate putting my faith inother folks and am completely helpelss to do anything about it.

metro keeps hiking it prices and have not done any improvements. worrying about eliminating paper and such they need to fix/the red and orange line ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

charging 10 dollars for the access card to get in and out of the parkign lot.

the red and orange line!!! ASAP.

everyone who went to the hospital will geta check. we can expect another fare hike next year.

    my condolences to the families……………………..

Its an extremly sad situation and I hope that whomever or whatever was responsible for this is brought to light. I went to school at Takoma Academy and took that way everyday last year and so did all of my friends. I couldnt imagine how it would have been if this was still the case. My sympathy goes to the friends and families of those killed or injured.

On the news, they reported that the colliding train — the one that rear-ended another train — was older and lacked up-to-date recording equipment and had been issued a federal safety warning on its collision readiness. It was also overdue for brake work.

The conductor, a 42-year-old woman who lived in Springfield, Va., is among the dead. It was the deadliest accident in Metro’s history. More names below — may they rest in peace and their families be comforted during this time of great tragedy:

From washingtonpost.com: Officials have identified five of the dead so far. Jeanice McMillan, 42, of Springfield, was the operator of the striking train. The rest were passengers, four of which have been identified: Lavonda King, 23, Dennis Hawkins, 64, Mary Doolittle, 59, and Anna Fernandez, 40.

  • the_one

I live in DC. I was going to stay at work late yesterday and would have been caught up in the mayhem, not on the red line but the delays it caused on the other lines. My heart goes out to everyone who was on the train yesterday, those who were spared and those who lost love ones. It was sad, I couldn’t even take metro today, I just said let me drive in but tomorrow I am going to have to take the train. UGH!

  • the_one

    And let me say this

  • the_one

And let me say this life is short, God is real so you better get right, no one knows their day but we will all experience it, so if you cannot wait for a better day then today to find God now, live and breath in his loving goodness he is waiting for you and me. Peace and prayers to all.

  • http://bossip Lady Miss

oh man, I was just about to take that train to get 2 the mall. thank God I was running late or I would’ve been right there.

  • Brooklyn, Stand UP!

This is so horrible. Why does this always happen in the D.C. area? I remember back in 96′ I lost about 8 good people from Harper’s Ferry Job Corps in a tragic train accident. God bless them and these people that passed away.

  • Moreaces

I live here in the DC Metro area, and this was a truly sad incident.. God Bless the ones that lost their lives, and their family, and Prayers for the recovery of the ones that are injured

You never know when its your time. I pray for the lives unexpectedely lost and their families/loved ones. I am hoping this was not a mistake that could have been avoided. Bless the families and godspeed.

  • From DC… Born and Raised!

This indeed is a tragedy… And trust, Metro is getting ready to get hit in the head and their POCKETS due to the information that is slowly coming to light… for sure! But I get so sick of hearing people complain about how terrible Metro is. Nothing and nowhere is perfect. DC has one of the best and CLEANEST public transportation systems in our country.

I am truly grateful that my mother stayed home yesterday, as she is typically coming into Takoma or Fort Totten around the time those trains collided. Prayers and blessings to those who were lost and to those who experienced loss.

  • I’m Just ME

This is so sad. God bless these people and their families. At the same time, DC Metro really needs to take heed to what the NTSB told them to do and get it done. DC Metro trains have more accidents than a little bit :(

  • the_one

Can anyone say LAWSUIT, now sometimes I wish I stayed in private practice.

  • t

metro is tryna play the blame game.
