Luda is known for many things – rapper, actor, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Now he’s about to be known for gettin’ folks drunk off their @ss. He’s launching his very own cognac yall. Pop the top for more

Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris has officially launched his new cognac called Conjure from France this week.

Debuting the product at the Vin Expo, the liquor-based event featured the rapper alongside other established figures within the wine and alcohol industry.

Hip-Hop icon Chris “Ludacris” Bridges has launched a new cognac, banking on his success on the record charts to shoot his latest project to the top of an extremely competitive business. With the inevitable paparazzi and chauffeur-driven Bentley, the star created a buzz at the normally staid Vin expo, the wine and spirits trade show in Bordeaux this week.

His fan base spreads across America, Asia, Europe and Africa. Exactly the market Kim Hartmann, owner of Birkedal Hartmann cognac, hopes to capture with Conjure, custom blend for the hip, urban market. He’s prepared to ship as much Conjure cognac as the hipsters are prepared to buy at $34.99 per bottle. (AFP)

Luda spoke from the event on what he hopes to gain with the new business venture.

“It’s not just me attaching my name to it,” he explained. “Whenever I involve myself in a business, I submerge myself in it…Hard work pays off.” (Statement)

The DTP leader also spoke on the event via his Twitter account.

“Live from the Vin Expo in France,” he wrote yesterday (June 22). “It’s like the Magic show in Vegas but for liquor. 6hrs ahead of atl time..Basically I’m telling u don’t blame me if I’m drunk by 8am EST. I’m introducing Conjur to the world today. Here’s a closer look at what the silhouette of the women on the Conjur Bottle look like. Collector’s item. From my view…..My Life Your Entertainment.. Conjure Cognac. Coming to the States Fall of 2009. Everybody wit me drunk as f*ck.” (Ludacris’ Twitter)

Producer Dr. Dre previously announced his own cognac deal last summer.

Hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre’s cognac and vodka brands will hit liquor stores in the next 60 days, according to celebrity booze marketer Drinks America Holdings Ltd. The products are the fruits of a joint venture between Wilton, Conn.-based Drinks America and Dr. Dre’s Interscope Geffen A&M Records label, a unit of Universal Music. (Reuters)

Labelmate Rick Ross recently announced a partnership with liquor-based company 1800 Tequila which will include his endorsement and a video shoot.

“Rick Ross & Triple C’s were an obvious choice for us,” Elwyn Gladstone, Head of Marketing for Proximo, said in a statement. “1800 Select Silver is a serious tequila for the serious tequila drinker. It’s making a huge splash in the tequila market right now, just as Rick Ross is shaking up the music industry.” (Statement)

Luda’s Conjure is set to be released in retail stores fall 2009.

Officer Ricky needs to be promoting a weight loss drink. He definitely doesn’t need to be the face of a tequila brand. SMH

Kami All Day, I hate the “n” word but I feel your sentiment. These people need to listen to some Malcom X recordings, because he spoke about the black community and what we do to continue what I like to call the incarceration of the mind.

  • Jade Silver (the truth shall set you free)

@ the-one… was thinking the same thing. But all these people are copycats. If one does something the rest follow.

I like Luda, but really are these the “ONLY” type of business ventures that they (rappers & athletes) can be involved in ? They are not owning the liquor company, distribution, marketing, etc. they are lending their name to someone else’s product in an attempt to increase sales.

    Good luck.

    @swiffjustus:

You sound like a child who follows the rest of the crowd and who doesnt have a mind of their own. of course you will agree with this ignorant shit.

You just hop on bandwagons just like everybody else. Has nothing to do with a person’s self-esteem at all.

Stop running off at the mouth. Talking loud but aitn saying nothing.

Isn’t the object of any business venture you enter to make money? Liquor sells and Luda will make money. That seems like a smart businessman to me. As far as ownership goes, didn’t rappers start out working for labels and then got smart enough to start owing their own once they were making money? Give ‘em some time. They’ll own their own liquor companies, distribution and all. The entreprenurial spirit is there in these cats. I salute all of you who are making your own waves, your own way. Get money!!!

  • Chi-Town Girl
