Health Officials Say Chipotle Is Responsible For Norovirus Outbreak In Boston

Looks like now is good time to take a Chipotle hiatus…

Boston Public Health authorities have confirmed the presence of norovirus among Boston College students.

Since late Sunday evening, more than 120 students have reported to the school’s health services with symptoms consistent with the gastrointestinal disease, according to Jack Dunn, a spokesman for Boston College. Nearly all of the 120 students told health officials they had eaten at a local Chipotle restaurant during the past weekend, Dunn said.

Due to similar cases linked to Chipotle restaurants in New York, California and Maryland, health officials initially suspected E. coli.

College health services originally tested for both E. coli and norovirus under direction of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Health officials are currently awaiting culture results to determine the exact cause of the outbreak to determine if there is also a link to the ongoing national outbreak of E. coli.

The restaurant — located in Cleveland Circle — closed yesterday for a health investigation and remains closed today.

Chipotle used to be a bastion for quick and delicious eating. Oh, how the mighty have fallen…
