Black, White, Asian, Hispanic women ALL wear weaves, contacts, makeup, etc. I think ALL women should have have same rules/access to cosmetic options. (e.g. If it’s not okay for one type of woman to wear a weave, it shouldn’t be okay for another type of woman to wear a weave. Or, if it’s okay for one type of woman to wear contacts to change her eye color, it should be okay for another type to do the same. etc…) But, I think the only/primary way to get Black women to stop wearing weaves, etc. and to go natural is for Black MEN to start loving/accepting/embracing Black women who don’t use those products/alterations. In our community, it’s an unspoken but known fact that MOST people only want to see a woman’s hair in its natural state if it’s long/non-nappy. Otherwise, the community prefers to see it relaxed. I think Black women would LOVE to stop going to such extremes to appeal to their own men. But, that’s a change that has to start w/Black males.

Personally, I don’t think MJ wanted to “be” White. I think he had low self-esteem and wanted to “look” White so that he would be treated better. (We all know that’s usually the case). But, he also CLEARLY had some psychological problems because his transformation took him from looking human to non-human. I don’t think he died looking “white”. Yeah, he was PALE. Why does trying to “talk proper” bother you? We are Americans, and our native language is English. What’s wrong with learning how to speak/use it correctly? Even Malcolm X thought it was important to learn the language, not only in terms of grammar, but also in terms of vocabulary. I think many people groups have multiple ways of speaking/communicating. I know how to use proper grammar, but I also know how to communicate w/others who don’t. My friend is Asian. She uses standard English in the workplace, but she uses a combo of English and Lao at home. I personally see anything wrong w/that.

I’m so sad. I’m not shocked to learn she had those experiences. I personally am not racist and don’t care what color anyone is. But, I do have a preference for brown coloring. I just LOVE it. But, I date all types of people. However, since I am a rich shade of brown, I sometimes think about how dark I’m willing to marry. I don’t want my daughters going through any crap. If Black men were supportive of their dark women, I wouldn’t care if my daughters were JET Black. But, since that’s not the case, I have second thoughts. You know, when Black females are “pro-Black” and accept the (VERY Negroid) Black man unconditionally in all of his “Blackness”, it’s applauded. So, since that’s the case, and since I understand the challenges Black women face, I think about color in my mate selection more than I normally would. I think Mike did what he did due to the fact that he just didn’t like himself. When someone doesn’t like themselves, they change what they can control. ie. people with eating disorders.
He said he was always teased for having a big nose which is why he got so many nose jobs.
So, I don’t think he was ashamed of being black or wanted to be white. He just wanted to change who he was and perhaps the pain and hurt was so deep – he went overboard.
I ‘m Asian. I grew up around mostly white people.
I was teased relentlessly for my flat nose, yellow skin, I have lids over my eyes (which are almond shaped) but still got the slanty eyes comments and well for just looking different. I remember getting a perm (super curly hair) because I wanted to fit in. I wasn’t ashamed of being Asian just everyone around me thought I should be. Luckily, I had enough self esteem in me to realize I looked stupid and I should just be happy I have all my parts and they all work. Unfortunately, Mike didn’t, if anything he got the complete opposite.

FYI, the Details interview has been picked up by a number of sites, including HuffPo. Also (and I didn’t know this before today), Quincy Jones was also interviewed by Katie Couric and described MJ as “self-destructive.”

This man, who described Michael as his “little brother,” has time to go to various media outlets to talk about MJ’s various dysfunctions — which, ironically, mirror some of the same accusations thrown out him over the years (talk about a pot calling the kettle black — no pun intended) — but his oh-so-busy travel itinerary prohibits him from attending his memorial service next week.

All Quincy had to say to interviewers was “No Comment.” I don’t think there’s anyone delusional enough to not see that Michael was internally tormented. But we don’t need a public rehash of the troubles that plagued MJ, particularly when he hasn’t even been laid to rest. Michael is gone. He is unable to address these “critiques” by people once seen as the closest to him — people who have deep-seated issues of their own (yes, I’ve referring to Quincy). To resort to making remarks best suited for the National Enquirer or some other tabloid about someone who died suddenly and tragically is hitting a new low.

BTW, below is an example of the “overture” Q made to his “little brother” just a few short years ago when he declined to work with him again. From Vibe.com:

Michael’s vitiligo was well documented. He did not lie about having a skin disorder. The vitiligo affected over 80% of his body. The photos in these well-documented sources clearly indicate Michael’s disorder. Quincy refused to believe it. Chemical peels do not change one’s skin color, so that shows you Mr. Jones’ ignorance. It has been stated that Michael did have chemical peels in the past, but they were to control scarring from his adult acne. You cannot “bleach” your skin white from black. This is medically impossible. You would have to have a genetic defect in order for the skin to respond to any controlling treatments, which Michael did possess. The logic behind this doesn’t even make any sense. He was a Black man who broke down barriers and achieved great things as a Black man. Trying to “be White” would have made no difference in what he achieved. People know very little about Michael because they choose to waddle in rumor and falsehoods instead of researching for themselves. For Quincy to do this to Michael postmortem, is vicious and insidious. He cannot say these things about Michael, having never really addressed them with him or understand for himself. I don’t understand where his comments are coming from, but it is a very ugly place. Michael had some real issues. Not excusing that. He really needed to heal himself psychologically. But try growing up the most famous human being on the planet and see if it is easy for you to deal with an insurmountable amount of pressure to be better than you were the time before. Michael may have had issues with trying to alter the very things that made him resemble his abusive father, but he was not trying to be another race.

As far as his children are concerned…they are his children and he is the only father they have known. Did anyone ever consider that with all of Michael’s medical issues, that he did not want to pass on any possible genetic diseases? Plus, I don’t hear anyone hollerin’ about Angelina Jolie or Madonna hating their own race because they have adopted Black children. We really must grow to get beyond these race issues, even issues within our own race, and understand where we fall short with one another. Michael dealt with so much hurt and embarrassment from his disorder, that he hardly let anyone in to help tell his story. He was private to a fault. So sad, how in death, Michael still can’t get some understanding and respect in having to live with this disease in the eyes of the public. I would hope that people click the links and at least try to understand what Michael was dealing with. This is a man who has done so much for race relations, the Black community, for Africa, for the world and has been overall, more charitable than most every other celebrity in Hollywood or in the world for that matter. That shouldn’t easily be forgotten. Read….and know the truth.

If one would note, Mike tried to tell Q about his illnesses – which he did have verified by the autopsy. But Q thought that Mike was lying and trying to be white. Mike- according to the autopsy did have vitiligo, Lupus and a burst blood vessel in his lung. He has had it since his early 20′s. Mike was telling the truth, but nobody believed him.
