If they’re ever on the west coast they can come to my nice BIG SPARKLING pool here in sunny…CLEAN air Southern California AND I live about 2 miles from Laguna Beach if you decide my pool isn’t big enough.

Let them swim in their little mudholes. Pigs love to wallow in mud.

Why would you want to swim in a pool full of pink people anyways? It’s nothing but a sludge of washed off suncreen that has been sticking to someone elses melanin deficient cells. Grody.

There needs to be more action with cases like this. The parents are waiting for an apology??? This should be all over the news, there should be protests and the club owners need to but put on BLAST!!! I guess black people have just become accustomed to being treated unfairly.

If the kids from the camp behave anything like those children in the Harlem Children Zone up on 145th in Harlem then I would understand why a private club would want to ban them from their premises. Black or white, bad kids are bad kids.

I would not let this go. They had a signed agreement the club knew where the camp was coming from. No I would not let this ride. Now is the time to call Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the NAACP.

I am an attorney and I feel that each and everyone of these parents aswell as the camp directors should take civil action against this club then file discrimination charges against them and any other charge they can legally file. This was a blatant ignorant act, disrespectful and could have caused possible damage to some of these poor innocent soles, and they should not be able to get away with this, Hell we have an african american president for god sake. I further feel that you should write you president, congressman and any other officials you can think of to report this horrible club to, also call or write the NAACP, in other words put some heat under their ignorant asses. And to the other readers let’s stop writing these hateful remarks to these fools, we are of a race with much dignity and we know how to handle things the right way LEGALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have said that too and I have heard other non-white folks say that too…but the key difference is that they were not banned or not allowed to be there.

NE Philly is a melting pot of different races..and yet you still see that racism is still rampant…sad and embarassing.

I just emailed the club to give them my two cents. There’s no point in just posting a comment here as they aren’t going to be on the blog and news sites to see what people are saying about this situation. Taking a stand and letting them know first hand what I need to say for if it were my child that was denied access to their pool I would have tore that place up.

Wait it also has been reported…The Valley club also stop other daycares from coming. This was there first year allowing any daycares/groups. The others daycare/groups that are white were also told not to come so why were they told no also (these children were white)??? They had members complain about the other daycares that also came later that week. All groups/daycare were given there money back. The over crowding was a issue changing the complextion of small swim pool mebership to a much larger amount than expected (more kids more $$$). Bad Management to take on too many large daycares and not realize the increase swimmers would result in fustrated longtime members being crowded… not discrimination othewise why send away white daycares also? Everyone should wait till they get the whole story. Its a shame we look to color for blame instead poor human judgement first. Pray for the children not to get caught up in this and that they find good swim club soon and enjoy the rest of their youth and summer. 3 sides to every story yours, theirs, and God’s. If they did it because of race God will judge them, but the full evidence shows greed and lack of vision.

I would have loved to see those people’s expressions when all those black & hispanic kids jumped in that pool.
Those kids that they interviewed sounded so sad/pitiful. They probably won’t be able to comprehend the magnitude of what happened to them until they get a little older.
Pathetic that this is still happening in our country but definitely not surprising.

Time to call the press, have the kids show up again WITH media coverage, Call the Huffpost, they’ll send a local reportor immeidately.
Call CNN-they’ll send an citizen reporter, and time for a lawsuit. I think by the end of the lawsuit The Creative Steps Day Camp wins their case, they’ll be able to build their own pool & invite the club to the grand opening.

entire summer and when summer officially ends then they can take it down. They did it during the Olympic trials out here in L.A. so it can be done.

Ms.Oparah: I am also an attorney (in Philly actually) and a lawsuit is not going to happen. Too expensive, race lawsuits are usually almost impossible to prove. Plus the City will fight them into the ground… trust me, I have sued the City of Philadelphia or discrimination no less than 10 times, I do crim defense now but I used to be a civil rights lawyer here. Dealing with the City is a nightmare…

@Felicia: Have you ever seen White children in public? Cursing at their parents, throwing things at each other, and sometimes they are just as violent as the Black kids. Sometimes they are even worse. My thing is by you stating that Black kids need to learn how to behave in public futher promotes the racist and stereotypical notion that Black people, mainly Black youths are savages, beast, and simply not human. Granted some of the youths do need to learn manners and home training but why are Black folks always generalized as this or that. We have differences amongst us just like everyone else.

This is seriously racist i.e. when Whites felt Blacks were too dirty to swim in their “pure” pools, or when Blacks had to drink from different water fountains. In what world do you live in that you can build a pool for $1900? There are some BACKYARD pools that cost that much, much less a public facility that requires permits, maintenance, hydro, safety measures, etc that can efficiently service their camp.

Furthermore, what does this have to do about black people relying on white people? ‘MAYBE’ I could understand that comment if the kids were offered to swim there for FREE, but they weren’t. They PAID to swim there. All the manager had to do was open the gate to the pool and the camp could have handled themselves – that seems pretty independent to me.

The owners at this pool (who also happened to be white) were offering a service that the camp decided to take advantage of. They club could have easily been run by Asians or Hispanics … If that were the case, would you then change your ridiculous comment to “Black people should stop relyign on Asians or Hispanics”?

It isn’t like the pool club was doing them any favors. They paid their dues and should have, in turn, received their services .. which they were denied.

The owner doesn’t have to let us in. Sometimes we expect to get let in to too many places and we rely too much on others for that. There should be more black owned establishes as such and then we wouldn’t be complaining about not getting in.

It is private, it isn’t like it is a community apartment pool or something. It is private, which means the owner has a right to manage it the way he or she wants.
