found this site by googling Malia & hair after reading that there were people out there dumping on this kid over a hairstyle. This comment section, with the exception of some rational people, seems to have been hijacked by some real idiots.

I wear my natural hair in twists also. The reason why her twists might look weird is because her hair was probably straightened and THEN twisted. The twist effect really looks better on coily hair; they don’t look as beautiful on straight hair… imo.

I see nothing wrong with her hair, I love it. A lot of those comments are unnecessary and some people deserve to be slapped.

The thing with many Black people is that as soon as your daughter reaches a decent age,we slap on the relaxer. That’s all some people know so, when they see a natural hairstyle they’re like, “Ew, that girl needs a relaxer asap.” Most, if not all girls don’t even have a say of whether they want to remain natural or not. It’s like a rite of passage or something. I think some Black people will tell you that relaxers make our hair more manageable–yes in a way; however, they don’t realize that natural hair is also manageable once you learn to have the patience to deal with it. And then some of us wonder why our hair never reaches past a certain length. Barack’s daughter’s hair looks nice and healthy, I see nothing wrong with it.

Some of you adults ought to be ashamed of yourselves for talking wreckless. About an 11 year old though? It doesn’t matter if it’s Barack’s daughter or a random 11 year old on the street. You don’t ever take it upon yourself to talk mess about someone’s child that you don’t even know. Is your life that miserable? Grow up!

No, Malia’s twists and braids aren’t done by a professional. They are done by the older woman in the lemon outfit that’s right there with her; I remember reading about her in one of the Ebony articles. She tries to get to Washington every few weeks to do Malia’s natural hairdos.
