Iman Reveals Her Mother’s Death Just Months After Losing Husband

Prayers up for Iman. The pioneering black model revealed Friday that her mother passed away, just months after losing her husband, David Bowie, to a secret battle with cancer.

She posted the photo above with this caption:

“Saddened by the death of my mom Maryan Baadi,” she wrote on Instagram. “May Allah grant her the highest jennah. I beg that you respect my family’s privacy during our time of grief #ripmaryanbaadi.”

We feel for her, hopefully she is being comforted by friends and family now.

She can also rest easy knowing her mother made some great strides during her life.

According to Page Six reports:

Iman was very vocal about her parents activism in a 2014 interview with The Guardian. “My mother was an activist, so was my father,” she said. “They came from a generation of young Somalis who were actively involved in getting independence for Somalia in 1960.”

“So I remember when I was five how busy our house was,” she continued. “People would come in the middle of the night, meetings after meetings, and protests and all that. I grew up in the midst of all of that. And she instilled that in me. The fact that nobody can take your self-worth unless you give your consent.”

In January, Iman lost her husband of nearly 24 years after a secret battle with cancer. He was 69.

Weeks later, Bowie’s longtime friend and hairstylist, Teddy Antolin, passed way.
