    It’s not that B is such a bad actress, she definitely could use some additional coaching though as well as a speech coach. She still sounds country when she speaks/delivers her lines.

    yes its so true, hollywood is killing the black entertainers, theyll only leave room for a handfull-who sold their names, and the producers,directors,etc just trying to make more money for themselves, forget all the serious actors who have respect for their craft who trained for years,ppl who would actually gain weight for the role, and embody the character and go through intense training

    If the musician bankrolls the film, they have every right to star in it and only a hater would be mad at that. It’s one thing for a studio to choose a musician over an actress just for name recognition but its a whole different issue when the singer produces the film. If they put up their own money, then the film must mean something to them, too.

    But I guess some people will find fault with anything, won’t they?

    Beyonce IS the producer of this movie OK? So of course, she is going to give herself the role? Are you stupid or what? Now, that does not mean that she is not a good actress!     I think the issue with Beyonce is that all her characters or better yet, how she portrays them is the same….S*****y, Southern Girl and she has to realize that in order to be good..great…she has to play something that is so far from her usual and make us believe in that character….she has yet to do that ….hopefully she will give us “layers” in this portayal of Etta James

    I couldn’t agree with you more. Some singers make a good/great transition. (i.e. Jennifer Hudson & Jill Scott, Janet Jackson) but most don’t. We all know that Beyonce’s true love and talent is singing. I’ll keep my hopes up for improved acting cuz I do support B.

    Can’t wait to see that. I like the fact that Hollywood is finally paying homage to black legends. I think she will smash it. People didnt want to give her props for Dream Girls cuz J.Hud demolished her role, I believe she did great because her character was meek and weak.     I still disagree with her playing this part. I think there could have been other women out there to play the part. I love Beyonce as an etertainer of the music business, but I do believe that she was chosen for the party because she has a headliner name and the writers feel that tickets will sell as long as her name is on the ticket.     I think that a seasoned actress would really do this part justice…again a good actress can lip sinc when Etta James….but the sad part is that there really isn’t a big name Black actress that looks remotely close to Etta that is prepared to take the role at this time…..unless we get a no name and have the rest of the cast be headliners…..so unfortunately we are left with Beyonce who might do her own singing but you best believe that there will be plenty of growling and screaming….anything will be better that the part Beyonce played in Dreamgirls where she resembled a deer caught in the headligihts the entire movie

    I’ve never seen Dream Girls… and I honeslty have not wanted to because of Beyonce. Whenever I see her act, it’s like Beyonce plays Carmen Jones, Beyonce plays that person. Point being I never see the character I only see her and that’s a sign of a bad actress. I would love to see some other Hollywood actress in this role…maybe an unknown. Maybe with some coaching Raven Simone could even do it. You don’t have to be a singer to play a singer’s role. Proof? Look at Angela B*****et as Tina Turner.     The only way i see Beyonce believably acquiring an oscar is when and if she decides to do a non-singing role where she loses herself so completely in the character there’s no trace of Beyonce left…meaning it’ll no longer be Beyonce I’m seeing on screen but the character. Unfortunately she’s not capable in doing this. In every movie she’s starred in I see Beyonce merely saying lines not truly acting therefore it’s her I see and not the character which is why she’s in my opinion in no way a true actor and takes away from a movie.

    good point. I agree. I like Beyonce, but I would love to see her playing a part other than a singer. I just think she might have been the best for the part, I can’t think of anyone else to play Etta James.

    Etta James is my second favorite female singer of all time (check out her biography written by Herb Ritz. . .it’s hardcore).

    They should have cast an up-and-coming actress to play this part (maybe that fine sister that played “Donette” on The Wire). Beyonce looks buffoonish and nasty in this wig and unworthy of this part. . .she can suck my Magnum sealed *****.

And let’s not forget Patti Labelle , Sade, Roberta Flack, Tina Marie just to name a few more. And yes ther careers were very successful and long running. And if you ask me to be hnost Mrs. Knowles need to take a long hard look at celeberties who thought they could do it all and failed because the it was overkill exposure of them that the public could not take it anymore I say Beyonce needs to take a break some she could be more redifined as a artist . Not to mention that absence dose make the heart grow fonder.

    If she was secure in her talent then yes she would take break . And get in touch with herself the world give other artist a chance to see whats the public like or not explore the world not just the up scale world but the real world and step up her game a little cause it’s but soo far that you can go in the pop industry.

    Because in that genre it but so many years you can get out of that.

    Not hatinin on her but maybe I would like Ms. Knowles if she had a little more depth in work and not just this fly by night fluffy bubblr gum crap I’m forced to here on the radio everyday.

    And now the silver screen with the mediocore acting skills she rushed with her one year training with a acting coach. Almost like acting for dummies.
