Love them both, sincerely. Whitney has had more personal struggles in her life so I truly hope she can make a great comeback, I’ll be supporting her all the way. Mariah has a very strong faith and maybe this is what attracts success into her life, so she has an advantage in that respect. But I hope both Divas stay on top forever.

Vocally Whitney will always been the QUEEN with the most beautiful voice ever. Is her voice the same today? No. Mariah is known for hitting ear splitting high notes. If you consider that singing then more power to you. Whitney’s voice has so much range and power, she can sing softly and sound like an angel and she can sing hard and angry and still be soulful. I always felt that Mariah tries too hard in everything she does. If she’d just be herself she’d be just fine.

It’s not fair to compare the two. In my book Whitney will always be the best and the Queen. Her track record in the music industry is truly undeniable. They both have had their high ups and low downs but whats key to me is that they both have overcome those obstacles. That’s beautiful.

Whitney, hands down. mariah only appeals to chickenheads now, and her “music” isn’t even music anymore, just leftover hip hop tracks with her breathing on the mic instead of singing. Whitney has class and elegance behind her, mariah’s just another hip hop chick now. mariah lost her Diva status years ago. then again, she never really had it.

Even in her heyday – Whitney’s music was “old fashioned”, butMariah’s voice during live performance has never ever moved me like Whitney’s (thus the only CD I own of hers is the EOM)…

Both of the divas lost their beautiful voice due to too much partying. However, I think Mariah has a better management team and more support from her record label. As a reult, Mariah’s new cd will probably get more promotion and will have more sales than Whitney. But I think Whitney will receive more critical praise.
Btw, I love the single “Obsessed” and I think the lyrics are hysterical. I am glad she stood up to superhater, Eminem. Also, I am glad Mariah has accepted that she is black and married a black man. Black Love still exist.

mariah carey’s cd will probably outsell whitney’s. not to say that she will have better music but her fans are the one’s that are more likely to go out and purchase cd’s. mariah carey sings like janet or ciara when she has a much higher vocal range. and it just doesn’t sound good. that would be like janet or ciara trying to hit high notes like she can would not sound to good.

Mariah has already came back with a album…Was it last year?? Who knows, I didn’t buy it but Whitney actually been missing from the game for so long. Whitney will be well worth the wait. I know we have some top producers working on her album. I hope she doesn’t disappoint us…

As usual hate on Mariah let me guess its because she is half white. Mariah is the biggest selling female artist of all time. OF ALL TIME. Passed Elvis. Whitney is a cracked out beat up chick. Her voice was amazing back in the 80s early nineties. Mariah is still amazing.

Mariah is doing the smae ole same ole. But she can still make the mainstream tracks. But her voice is shot.

Whitney was great once. Now, not so much. He voice is completely destroyed compared to it’s former glory. Mariah is breathy. Whitney talk-sings and could do IWALY justice today if she wanted to. And…she lost the white audience and they aren’t coming back.

Both will do marginally well, but this is the Beyonce era. Adult will go for Whitney. Kids will stick with Mariah. But there is no way that Whitney can topple Mariah’s comeback from 2005 with TEOM. Whitney just isn’t that kind of artist anymore.

Respect is all she has left.

Very simple. Now, they will both be going head to head for the 2011 grammy nominations. When Mariah was releasing Aug 25th, she would have just made the noms for the 2010 grammys. By moving her album date back, she is setting the tone for a face off and pretty much stating that she isn’t scared to go head to head.

There’s a reason that both women are still here.

I am going to buy both CD’s because I love both ladies. Both have faced problems in the past; Mariah suffered a breakdown and bounced back. Whitney had her drug/husband problems and will bounce back as well. Who are we to judge because we all have probems–some worse than others. It is a matter of opinion and preference as to which album will be the best. Neither ladies’ voice is the same since the beginning, but they are still talented and noteworthy. I refuse to disrespect one over the other. Hopefully, both CD’s will do well and both ladies’ fans will be happy and respectful.

Okay in reading some of these comments it’s clear that the younger generation are pulling for Mariah. Granted, when she actually tries to make “music” she can, Mariah will not stand a chance. If you take the time to listen to Whitney’s music with a subjective ear as opposed to an objective ear you’ll learn that she is still amazing. Whitney’s voice has always been soulful and meaningful. Mariah’s music normally depends on the beat to carry it (hence the reason I’ve purchased any of her music since “Music box.” It’s sad to say that the younger generation does not appreciate good quality music. I guess when the time comes we’ll all know.

Never been a fan of Mariah, she just do not have the pipes imho. Whitney on the other hand did have the pipes. She was America’s sweetheart back in the day. Mariah would not even talk against Whitney back then because she knew what would happen. I just hope Whitney is back. Even on her worse day she is better than the hoarse, whispering, can’t pull it together off the cuff Mariah. Mariah has and never will be my cup of tea. Heard of free style? Moriah cannot free sing at a moments notice. There is always some excuse.

AND, all that hand moving Mariah does when she sings is nothing but a farce of insecurity at actually being able to sing. A few curly q’s do not make you a singer. Sometimes I believe she moves her hand to make her notes change by physical movement because she can’t move notes from her stomach.

I’m rooting for Whitney. I like Mariah, but Whitney has soul. Her voice can stir emotions in you that you forgot existed. I’ve always said Whitney’s voice was kissed by God. Also, I keep reading here that there’s a single out by Whitney, no there isn’t. Nothing has been released and she just had a listening party last night. If you like Mariah that’s your choice, I’ll take Whitney first and Mariah second every day of the week.

I think people have slept on how big Whitney Houston really is! Because she has been gone so long people forgot her impact. They are about to be reminded!

Mariah has sold more albums than Whitney because she has RELEASED more, lol. Whitney’s individual albums sell more than Mariah’s on AVERAGE. And Whitney opened a lot of doors for Mariah to walk through, Mariah said so herself. So give Whitney some respect.

Mariah will do just fine. She always has and always will. Neither of these two ladies have anything to worry about.

The Album covers say it all. Class vs. trash. Whitney Houston is a legend period. There is no debating her impact on the music industry as someone who blazed the trail for the likes of a Mariah. Mariah on the other hand covers up her vocal and performance shortcomings by removing more and more clothes. Her MJ performance was indicative of all of last years EMC2 live performances without lipsynching. She just fails to deliver. Mark my words if this Mariah’s album fails she is headed for another breakdown.

However, it doesn’t excuse the fact that she has a more soulful voice that captures the essence of any song that she sings. I love Mariah Carey and she is a WONDERFUL artist. But even she knows that she can’t hold a candle to Whitney. Whitney’s accalaids speaks volumes about her talent. And although Mariah has sold more albums than Whitney, Whitney hasn’t made an album in 7 years and is still the most awarded female artist of all time, which says alot about her as an artist. So let’s face it, Whitney is “it,” and will always be “it,” And if you don’t know, you betta ask somebody!

mariah, though as great if not even greater, stands little chance to win over whitney this time cause this is whitney’s LONG awaited comeback.
Both are divas, it all comes down to personal preference to say who’s better and who’s not.
For me i will say mariah.

Duyh Whitney is better. Mariah only beats Whitney in range. But Whitney beats her with interpretation, vocal control, phrasing, and she clearly has the stronger voice. MNariah’s voice is thin and scrachy, she’s always whispering like she’s afraid to sing stong notes anymore.
