First of all… that’s Geraldine Ferraro. Know your history. She was the first female candidate on either of the two major parties’ tickets (VP – 1984 with Walter Mondale).
Second, while she is clearly overstepping here, there is really nothing in her past to say she’s a racist (a/k/a – someone who hates, tries to down or belittle an entire race). Quite the opposite, she has a strong record of supporting all issues we think of as important to Black folks.
You have to realize that this is just the way the political game is played. And I’m not so sure Obama would have it locked by now if he were white; Don’t fool yourself into thinking that there aren’t white people voting for him to show how ‘down for the cause’ they are.

However, the point i am trying to make is this; to say that Obama is still in the race because he is black is not only humorous, but it shows the level of reasoning and cognition some people have. For a African American man to have such m***** appeal to a wide array of cultures and races, despite himself being among the most shunned race (black man)says that this man is in the race because he is a winner and he has a real movement. Lets not forget blacks only make up roughly 13% of the US population, if he was depending or only receiving black votes, his name wouldn’t even be on the ballot. I fail to understand how some blacks view the Clinton’s in such a messianic light, when it is clear that she is not quite fond of blacks. Make no mistakes, just because her husband went to a few black churches and have a few black *****ociates does not mean he is a fan of blacks, it means he is a smart politician. This is why Hilary is number two and the brother is number one. Just a sidenote: at Standford University, one of Chelsea Clinton’s close guy friend was black guy,even made valedictorian, let just say mommy and daddy wanted the family to stay white, think about that black people.

OUTSIDE of race, or gender, people support candidates for any number of reasons. They’re inspirational (take his recurring “hope” theme, for example); they’re *not* the person running against them; they’re great orators; whatever. None of these factors necessarily takes race into account.
To be sure, some people will vote for Obama because he’s black; conversely, some people would never vote for him for the same reason. But reasons for supporting him can be both NOT grounded in logic/knowledge of issues, and NOT grounded in race.

The rest of the future senator’s time was helping WPIC strike the deal with Rezko. Rezko’s company, Rezmar Corp., also partnered with the firm’s clients in four later deals — none of which involved Obama, according to the firm. In each deal, Rezmar “made the decisions for the joint venture,” says William Miceli, an attorney with the firm.
4. In 1995, Obama began campaigning for a seat in the Illinois Senate. Among his earliest supporters: Rezko. Two Rezko companies donated a total of $2,000. Obama was elected in 1996 — representing a district that included 11 of Rezko’s 30 low-income housing projects.
5. Rezko’s low-income housing empire began crumbling in 2001, when his company stopped making mortgage payments on the old nursing home that had been converted into apartments. The state foreclosed on the building — which was in Obama’s Illinois Senate district.
6. In 2003, Obama announced he was running for the U.S. Senate, and Rezko — a member of his campaign finance committee — held a lavish fund-raiser June 27, 2003, at his Wilmette mansion.
7. A few months after Obama became a U.S. senator, he and Rezko’s wife, Rita, bought adjacent pieces of property from a doctor in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood — a deal that has dogged Obama the last two years. The doctor sold the mansion to Obama for $1.65 million — $300,000 below the asking price. Rezko’s wife paid full price — $625,000 — for the adjacent vacant lot. The deals closed in June 2005. Six months later, Obama paid Rezko’s wife $104,500 for a strip of her land, so he could have a bigger yard. At the time, it had been widely reported that Tony Rezko was under federal investigation. Questioned later about the timing of the Rezko deal, Obama called it “boneheaded” because people might think the Rezkos had done him a favor.
8. Eight months later — in October 2006 — Rezko was indicted on charges he solicited kickbacks from companies seeking state pension business under his friend Gov. Blagojevich. Federal prosecutors maintain that $10,000 from the alleged kickback scheme was donated to Obama’s run for the U.S. Senate. Obama has given the money to charity.

I’m not going to lie, when this election started I was all about Hillary because I was more familiar with her. But before the California Preliminary I went to both of their websites and read what their issues were and how they might effect me. I was not happy with what I saw on Hillary’s site, she said nothing about immigration or the economy (Now her website has changed…looks like Obama’s). I then checked Obama’s out and found his agenda was clear and did not hide his stance on controversial issues. As this campaign continues, I’ve been more focused on what both candidates say. The fact remains, Hillary is one sneaky closet Republican, and with all the hypocritical actions and back-handed maneuvers, I do not think that she will push for all the change she promises to bring if elected.

Is on point, and he just squashed that whole “No Child Left Behind Garbage”, that has ruined many teachers, schools, students. Also, he talks about using Enviromental technologies to create new jobs , and also keep us away from being dependent on foreign oil. He also wants education to be affordable, to give students 4,0000 for schools. As well as make the Financial Aid applications simple so that people can understand it, get money. He also wants provide the elderly with in house care, by providing nurses to come to the home. The man has a laid out plan, but people don’t want to pay attention to him , because they have already made up their minds.

I still don’t see how Geraldine Ferraro is racist for raising this question. I am black and I asked the same question about Oprah. If Barack Obama was a white man from West Virginia would Oprah have been on the campaign trail stomping for him. I don’t think so. He is a black man from her home town.
I agree with Geraldine Ferraro. If Barak Obama had been white, with the same credentials and experience, he would not be the front runner for the candidacy. Someone mentioned it earlier, John Edwards was the best choice.

Ferraro’s words were cr*****, but the truth is that support for Obama’s amongst the white/mainstream media is driven by their desire to undermine Clinton’s campaign. At the same time they can pat themselves on the back and proclaim how inclusive and democratic the “Good ‘Ol US of A” is.
Obama’s as shallow as a puddle. What’s his position on restoring voting rights to ex-cons? Or the death penalty? What about electoral reforms like proportional representation to end the two party system which runs America? Is he going to push through the District of Columbia Voting Rights Amendment? Or will he, in the event of his unlikely election, spend his whole tenure in fear of offending white voters?

A lot of the issues you mention are state related issues that he would not really concern himself w/ on the federal level.
Fact of the matter is, there’s already a process in place, might vary by state, whereby ex-cons can reclaim their right to vote. The death penalty is a state issue. And before proportional representation, you have the need for campaign finance reform, which is the driving force behind the domination of the two party system.
But Obama is a (half) white man. The one drop rule is so stupid.

Those of us on here that remember 1992 and the 1st campaign for Bill Clinton know exactly that the Obama campaign is strikingly similar in the message of Change. Clinton didn’t have anymore foreign policy experience than Barack Obama has but he ran on a platform of change from the status quo of the career politician George H.W. Bush. And he ran on a message of inclusion for all people and I helped campaign for Wild Bill in Michigan. I think that what really is disturbing about Geraldine Ferraro’s comments is that you would expect a Bill O’Reily to make that comment. And I don’t know about you but I am a little tired of the whiff of racial overtones from the Hillary campaign and now mind you, she has not asked for Geraldine to step down…talk about making rules for one and then not following. Geraldine went on Fox News to defend her comments and then threatened that if Obama is the nominee that he better not antagonize “people” like me. I think the hillary supporters don’t understand that just as they can make threats, black folks can turn their back on Hillary. I hope all of us are keeping an eye on how the shady politics is coming into play. Democrats only need black folks when it is election time. Black folks need to break away from the democratic party and form a independent party and trust me the democrats will lose a majority of their seats without our votes! We need to let them know that if they steal this election, they can forget about our votes.

You are right, they dipped into the negative stuff first. I was so disappointed that they resorted to race baiting – twice. Those were my peeps. It’s such a shame. I must say, if she does win using the super delegates, then I’m voting independent.
The attacks from Ed Koch came during the 1988 Presidential campaign between Jesse and Mike Dukakis. And I believe it was after the campaigned moved to NYC and the nation of islam became Jesse’s bodyguards. Jesse had made the hymietown remark before this stop in nyc.
My theory is that they are trying to inject race into the picture to get more white voters to defect to Hillary’s side in the Pennsylvania contest. I think it is a very calculated move but I believe no matter what tricks they pull, Obama will come out ahead on delegates. If the Super Delegates give the nomination to Hillary in spite of the delegate count, I will never vote democrat again.

I’m old enough to know that Geraldine Anne Ferraro is not a racist – as a black man I can *****ure you of that. A lot of the issues you mention are state related issues that he would not really concern himself w/ on the federal level.
Fact of the matter is, there’s already a process in place, might vary by state, whereby ex-cons can reclaim their right to vote. The death penalty is a state issue. And before proportional representation, you have the need for campaign finance reform, which is the driving force behind the domination of the two party system.
I here what your saying but you’re wrong. Those “state related issues” were the difference in getting Bush into the White House. When the, mainly black, voters of Washington DC have no voting representive in Congress, the goverment feels the need to take ex-cons democratic rights away and when Al Gore can actually win more votes than Bush Jr and not get elected, you end up with 8 years of Bush & Co + the war in Iraq. If Obama really wants to be President so he make real changes then these “state related issues”, even for selfish pragmatic reasons, are where he’s got to show some backbone. You are right that his quote was based on fact; however, you seemed to have failed to clearly understand the overt racism in his remark. I was in college during Jackson presidential run and remember how cool it was that he ran – but I knew he wouldn’t win. Obama on the other hand will win, there are no substantive correlations between the two.
What Clinton attempted to do was try and remind Jews that Jackson called ny hymie town and remind whites that Jackson raged against them. That’s not so big a leap for anyone to understand – even you. The comparison to satan was because they deceived us. I would have never thought that they would have resorted to race based politics. I have to respectfully disagree with what you wrote. What she (farroro, or however you spell her name) said is wrong. The reason I feel this way is because Barack is no different than John Edwards. And you see where he is today – sitting on the sidelines. Both have the same ideological philosophies and charisma. The difference is he connects with the people and they want real change. Edwards could not connect. How then should we consider what he does as to simply be *****ociated with race? That’s demeaning. Also, regarding ‘the struggle’ and folks who benefit from it without having had to put in the struggle for it:
a) I read this past week that many Latinos feel that blacks ignored and dismissed Latino civil rights concerns during the Civil Rights movement era; and therefore since blacks didn’t ride or die with Latinos, Latinos are not going to ride or die with Latinos.
I’d never heard of that perspective before. To the latinos here — is that true? To me, that can be rectified and dealt with a lot simpler than ‘Latinos have white skin envy and take on the mainstream hatred of blacks as a means of cultural survival.’
2) I really wish I could find that article written by an Asian-American regarding how many Asians felt wronged for being unfairly cl*****ified as unreasoningly bigoted against blacks and a black candidate after a cable news expose headed by Anderson Cooper. I wanted to find it, because it dealt with older Asian culture ‘meekness’ and acceptance of status quos even when unhappy, versus the struggle the black community took on to get ‘rights’ which ended up benefiting everyone, some more than others.

Mondale/Ferraro got less than 45% of the white female vote — probably not much more than 40%. The majority went for Ronald Reagan.
In contrast, Mondale/Ferraro got over 90% of the votes of both black men and black women.

But back to your previous post, I understand the fairness of the question but I am not buying into the civil rights rationalization for the Black/Mexican voting divide.
With all the things whites have done to Mexicans why would they pick that event and period of time to hold a continuous grudge towards blacks.
Case in point, somehow these same Mexican Americans completely forgave whites for major events like the Mexican/American War, All the land stolen from Mexico, the mistreatment that lead to civil rights in the first place, everyday racism they still endure, recent immigration reform, and the obvious difference between how Canada and Mexico is treated by the US.
Matter of fact there were plenty of blacks and whites out their marching with them to keep familys from being broken up.
Either way it still shows that the Mexicans in question are much more willing to be angry at blacks than whites. Some of them also seem to have issues with Puerto Ricans and other spanish speaking people because of African lineage.
I remember them announcing on our local news station that hispanics were the fastest growing minority group in the country. They were poised to be a new political threat and eventually the overall majority.
So they interviewed a Mexican Professor at an Illinois University who claimed to be an expert on Hispanic Cultural Studies.
Instead of embracing the full population that made them strong and gave them the increased voting status, she automatically goes into how all latinos aren’t the same. She then goes on to state Mexicans are considered WHITE Latino’s and Puerto Ricans and many South Americans etc. are considered BLACK Latinos.
She took a system justifiably divided by nationality but strong in number and applied Americas races laws to earn white approval. She also chose to cut there voting power into segments and throw away a majority to *****imilate with the current white majority, it was disgraceful she did exactly what they wanted her to do..
It may not be the case for all Mexicans but I believe for some it’s deeper than what happened in the civil rights movement. That is an all too convenient excuse that doesn’t quite add up.
But either way there are still allot of intelligent open minded Mexicans that are still voting for Obama or at least their heart. Let’s not let the medias coverage of Texas say otherwise. We only lost the popular vote by 4%. I think it is just another way they attempted to divide the Obama vote.

They are fleeing some of the counties in my area in droves to avoid this. Local police are now trained and empowered to complete immigration checks. So here is my thing…

Even worst there is no comparison to what anyone who is black goes through and the easy road that the white woman has in this country. If you are upset that your white male counterparts aren’t giving you the full American dream thats one thing and it should be stated that way and taken up with him.
