David Paterson to Replace Hooker-Hiring NY Governor

David Paterson, a legally blind former legislator and New York’s lieutenant governor since 2007, is set to become the state’s first African-American governor once that shady prostitute purchasing Eliot Spitzer resigns from office:
The New York governor hired a prostitute in Washington on Feb. 13 and paid her $4,300. Mr. Spitzer is likely to resign, perhaps as early as today, according to a person close to him, which would effectively end his political career just 16 months after he was elected New York’s governor by a wide margin. “I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself,” he said, with his wife at his side. “I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family.”
Mr. Spitzer has been a strong backer of Hillary Clinton and was mentioned as a possible cabinet member if she were elected president. Sen. Clinton declined to comment on the scandal. “I obviously send my best wishes to the governor and his family.”
SMH at those shady characters like Spitzer and Clinton sticking together. Oh well, his time is up. What the hell is the Governor of New York doing paying for some 4K tail?

Gov. Eliot Spitzer is believed to be the man identified as Client 9 in an affidavit in the federal investigation into a prostitution ring known as Emperor’s Club VIP.
A wiretap recording captured “Client 9″ on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a hotel room.
Some highlights:
Client 9 – believed to be Spitzer – paid $4,300 for a woman named “Kristen” to come from New York to D.C. A portion of that money, however, likely went to credit for future appointments.
“Kristen” was described as “an American, petite, very pretty brunette, 5 feet 5 inches, and 105 pounds.” Client 9 had to be “reminded” what she looked like, suggesting that this was not the first time the two had done business.
Client 9, according to another woman *****ociated with the Emperor’s Club, “would ask you to do things that, like, you might not think were safe.” There was no elaboration.
“Kristen” described her interaction with Client 9 — which took place on Valentine’s Day — as follows:

I doubt very seriously that she cares that her husband cheats on her as long as he is discreet. He is a very wealthy, powerful and influential man and there are always women who make themselves available for men like that.

This whole story is very sad. I won’t be sorry to see Spitzer go. I’m tired of the scandals. (This isn’t his first one, and he’s only been in office for 1 year!) Hopefully the next Gov. will take on the MTA and give NYC our fair share of the budget!!

Although it appears Spitzer’s decision to back Hillary was just a small fish in a sea of bad decisions, he was a pretty strong liberal political figure. His downfall can only serve to discredit the democratic party as a whole and potentially hurt Obama.
As for his marriage it is important to realize that marriage is a bond between two people and how it actually plays out differs depending on the dynamic shared by the two people. Who knows how theirs was structured? It is stupid to talk about how dumb his wife is for sticking by him because we have no idea what they had agreed to or been through. Often times in politics marriages are simply for looks.

It’s just too big of a coincidence that a scandal of this nature breaks during a critical election season. Is it possible the two are connected: the taking of the New York Governorship and the Democratic primary season — or is that simply beyond the pale?
Keeping in mind the current controversy over the conviction and imprisonment of the Governor of Alabama, is anything today politically beyond the pale?
Granted, living inside the Beltway and observing politics for decades now has made me unquestionably suspicious of political coincidences. Granted, Elliot Spitzer has made many political enemies. Granted, Spitzer crusading on cleaning up corruption, first as Attorney General, and secondly, as Governor while patronizing prostitutes is clear hypocrisy, but he’s not the first political hypocrite we have observed in office. Bill Clinton, for instance, experienced sexual scandal of an unprecedented Presidential nature but prevailed in retaining his office. Why is that beyond the reach of the Governor of New York?
Is the Governor of New York well positioned to manipulate the political machinery of the State during close political calls? Of course, but would Spitzer be so inclined? How can we know the answer to that question as we learn there are dimensions to the man that we would have never imagined in our wildest political dreams ….
And what about Bloomberg’s recent reference to election irregularity in the recent New York primary? I was surprised Bloomberg would go so far as he did in his statement — you might recall he used a different noun other than “irregularity” — is that a random statement disconnected to current events?
I pose these questions because it seems just too coincidental, if Spitzer has been patronizing prostitutes for as long as possibly ten years, as reported earlier today by MSNBC, the FBI by mere happenstance aired his misconduct during this critical political moment. Possible, yes. Probable, I doubt it.
Further, Alan Derkowitz asked the question, who in violation of Federal law, leaked Grand Jury evidence to the press? That is a critical question — who did it — but just as importantly, why?
These are serious questions we must address, I believe, so I ask for your read on this. My best guess is that during the days to come, we will find there is a lot more to this story than currently appears on the surface. In that process, the timing of the taking of this Democratic Governorship at this critical juncture will, in that revelation, have an entirely different prism reflected.
