I also have a family member that was diagnosed in the 80’s and they are still wit us today. It is only because they can afford the medication and have regular check ups wit a doctor that they remain functioning. AIDS/HIV is a disease that you can live very long with. It’s sad that people who can’t afford the health care will die sooner than people with money. Its really unfair…

I’m glad im in jersey cuz I haven’t encountered that problem. Dudes in the street will holla like “whats up brown skin” or “whats up light skin” and it doesn’t really matter. I do notice discrimination between black people. I know a few black people that wont date anyone darker than them. That is so ignorant. their kids will be just as beautiful as a lighter child but for some reason light is supposed to be right. I was in miami and there is a big spanish population so maybe the light skin is more popular down there. Up here i dont feel that type of pressure.

I was even offended when I hear some of them in conversation deny their roots of being black since they are so high yellow/red that they cant possibly be black. I went to a High School in Chicago for like 2 years and we had alot of different nataionalites particularly Africans, and we had this one African girl in my Art cl***** who I seriously thought was a statue because her skin and bone structure was so beautiful the hefer didnt have one single blemish!..but all the other black kids made fun of her because she was “dark skinned” but her skin was beautiful to me like onyx or something she was flawless, and one day I saw her walking down the hall and I told her “you know what therye ignorant, you are beautiful, honestly I thought you were a statue when I saw you!” and I think she was surprised that an American black girl would say that to her, but I had to tell her because I could see that it was taking a toll on her, sometimes these color stigmas we have as a people can be really embarrasing, but then again all people of color have theyre own stigmas about skin color as well, even though were so diverse and beautiful ..nonetheless its just very sad imo

Why on earth would you talk about this being an issue by judging someone based on their color on whether they are beautiful, a good person etc. You get mad at people talking about and not liking someone because they are darker, yet you do the same thing against someone who is of lighter skin. Is that not the same bias? Is that not the same self hatred? To say that someone is only in a position they are in because they have lighter skin, is very ignorant. In a sense you are doing the same thing as the person who has the color complex themselves. You are equating that persons success to their skin tone. Why not say it’s because of their talent, harddrive?
It’s a shame that we blame others for the color complex, but it’s sickening when we do it to our own. Each time we say “Oh she’s viewed better because she’s lightskin, she would be nowhere that she is now if she wasn’t lightskin”. that’s just as bad as saying someone isn’t attractive because of they are darker skin.
